Ok then, a little background. I played prophecies, although I only played the first 4 or 5 missions. After that I played a Warrior in Factions, leveled it to 20 and finished the storyline, got my 1.5k armor (not 15k).

I just bought Nightfall, and I would really appreciate advice on what class to play. Dervish looks pretty cool, but as soon as I logged in and got to the first area I saw a TON of Dervishes. I would like to do well in both PvE and PvP, and I'm basically a casual player.

I like playing melee characters, and I like cool looking armor. I like having a wide variety of skills that will help both my team and me prosper. I like to solo, but I also enjoy running missions and such with other people. So I usually quest alone and do missions with real people. I also foresee PvP in my future, so I'd like a class that does well in PvP.

Thanks for your help!

The first area has a lot of dervishes because they are mostly veterans that are making a new character, and dervish/paragon are the only classes that are new in nightfall.

Thanks for your help! If your just casual, I'd advise choosing a class that can be used in most PvE groups and is more accepted (unlike mesmor), although with Hero's it doesn't matter nearly as much anymore.

If you like Dervish, go ahead and try it out, but remember there are alot of Dervish's out there, and being chosen for mission groups will be that much harder.

I'd advise any of the core professions if you don't play often, as they are the most balanced. And I did have great success with Paragon, although its hard to get in groups like I said.

Whatever class makes you REALLY want to play it, do. Whatever you crave.

I suggest going monk. I really regret not starting off as a monk (even though necro is pretty fun). Once you gain valuable experience in PvE monking you will be able to apply it into PvP. Monks are also fairly easy to find a group and may allow you to finish the campaign easier with PUGs.
