12 Character Rule
Stop The Storm
Is there any *real* need for this to be implemented? All it does is create messy posts and makes the forum look intidy with people having to type something to make up for the 12 characters.
It doesnt even incite me to post more or add more information, sometimes it just simply is not needed.
Examples of this can be found in virtually every PC thread.
" Can i get a PC on my Fellblade please? "
" About 100k
12 characters "
I think the forum would look much better without it.

It's a universal control used to help dissuade spam in other forums. I don't think it's too hard to either make a complete sentence or make a post 12 characters long in PC, is it?
ABCDEFGHIJKL <-12 characters.
I think people are just being lazy.

You'd see a lot of posts with only that.

12 chars is annoying but it has reduced the "lol" posts

Personally, I didn't even notice the change from the old 5 (?) character to 12 character minimum per post when it happened, and I don't run afoul of either except in regards to posting raw quotes, which aren't included as part of your character count.
I'd imagine it can be mildly annoying, but really, if people type at least one complete sentence that makes any real kind of contribution using abbreviations in moderation, it shouldn't even come up.
"It's worth about 100k." Simple, clean, and would not cause the spam filter to reject it.

ive never really typed "properly", with capital letters and full stops, i just type quickly and so its readable.
i guess its probably just me who it irritates as i only really spend my time in Ventaris Sell, i dont really venture into other parts of the forum.
So i see this ALOT in price check and in buying/selling threads. i suppose it dont really affect other places so much and does cut down on the possible spam.
still bloody annoying
*e4dit* hmm i have a suggestion, how about reducing the char needed to 5 letters?
This would cut out the "lol, rofl, lmao, pmsl" etc but also clean up the ventaris sell section? just an idea

Well, I won't dissuade you from trying, but to be honest, you're fighting an uphill battle. Most arguments that can be made are in direct contrast to the spirit of the forum.
But in the end, I'm not the one that has to be convinced, as I don't make forum policy, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt.

I'd say about 100k.
(That's >12)
It also prevents people from abusing the English language:
'bout 100k
or
dunno, 80k?
won't get through.

Just be glad that it wasn't bumped up to a minimum of 50 characters. (frog's idea?)
Unlucky Slayer
50 character minimum would be suicide.
Not A Fifty Five
hah. yeah 50 should be min for sardelac, honestly. Tired of those "what's the point of this thread?" or "hell yeah" with no reasons given :P
Is there a way to make it different for different forums? Ventari sell I don't think needs it. Non-bid "lol" type posts are bannable anyways.

I haven't seen any indication that the change cannot be universally applied, no.

12 Character Buffer > Sardelac Spam. Makes it much easier to keep things clean and organized. Though to be honest, I would enjoy seeing a 50 Character Buffer in Sardelac, and Sardelac alone...

I ran into the 12 character rule once. I think someone asked a yes or no question and the answer was yes. I typed "yes" and it told me about the 12-char rule. So I hit the space bar 9 times and typed yes. It got through. I like the 12-char rule. the instances where yes/no questions get asked is small enough to not merit a change. But I wouldn't mind seeing Sardelac bumped up to more.
