Just got back into GW. No Nightfall and looking for advice

Hey everyone,

I just reinstalled GW for the first time in about 5-6 months so Im very out of the loop on things. I am debating picking it back up again (the reason I stopped playing was my pc blew up... just got a new one) but I am not sure what to play.

I have 5 level 20 chars, all with at least something for a decent weapon and 15k armors. So I kinda enjoy all of them in a manner of speaking.

My chars are: Ritualist, Monk, Warrior, Mesmer, Necro

Now, I know most will say "Just play what you like" but it isn't as simple as that.

See, I like to PVP, but without Nightfall I miss some very key skills. I may or may not buy nightfall, that depends on how things go in the next month. More importantly, which classes suffer the most from not having any? I also considered just starting something like an Ele from scratch but I was curious what people thought before I did something rash. I always liked my Mesmer but I heard not so good things lately... I figure Ill be doing both the prop and factions campaigns and I want something that is valued in a group. I plan to save up for FoW armor which Ill likely use my Necro for.... Im more thinking for the rest of the missions, etc. I really enjoy them all very much, and I played a few of them today. I figure it'll be between Monk, Necro and Mesmer but I'd love to hear some suggestions on which you recommend and why... do you really need Nightfall to do any PVP?

Any insight would be great!

Well iv had that same problem in pvp with factions, but you just have to do with what you have, unless you want to buy that PvP edition for 40$... but some quick questions, whos your farmer character? Id start with him first, do a couple runs to get back in it and whatnot.

Well, my main farmer I guess would be my necro. I usually back in the day just duo'ed UW for ectos and what not.... Is this still a good method to farm or did they totally gimp it out and made drops impossible? I noticed Ectos were a whopping 9.5k at the trader. I wish I still had all of mine, I'd be loaded rich

I am leaning towards playing my necro out to the fullest. She was my first character and allows me to farm pretty effectively. I really like my mesmer too but ive been told they have dropped off the radar a bit in both PVP and PVE. Is this true???

Any insight on the class structure now would be best. I have basically one of all of them (except a few) and they all basically have the same gear. A green item/offhand and 15k. It just depends on where ill start. I used to LOVE my warrior in PVP but again I hear they have become less than popular and as well I would probably need Nightfall??? Just half speculating.

NF is not necessary for your characters IMHO. Rits are still used for some of their healing powers which are all factions based. Mesmers are not used as often in PvP but occasional e-denial (i think it fell out of favor with energy surge being ... nerfed) ... many mesmers play migraine now. i dont use warriors... and for Necros you missed Reaper's Mark and Jagged bones scares, now their only good NF skill IMO are Corrupt enchantments, signet of lost souls (which is good, but not worth $50 O_o), and a few others but not really necessary (necros have lost favor in PvP because of various nerfs AND SOUL REAPING T_T)

As for monks, there is Zealous Benediction. Thats a big one, but RC, BL are still used. Divert Hexes, Light of Deliverance and Healer's Boon are all NF, theyre all nice... but if you like RC or BL stick with that i guess

dont make an ele. ALL their new skills are NF... Mind Blast, Searing Flames, Glowing Gaze, Savannah Heat, Sandstorm (now pretty bad but...), Blinding Surge, Invoke Lightning...
you could play water trident and unsteady ground, but those arent too popular...

That isn't very cool at all! Maybe I should suck it up and by Nightfall but I dunno. I find it very difficult to justify it because I don't even know if Ill play forever again, it really depends on what has changed in 6 months (and Im willing to bet a lot).

I guess Ill have to go with either my Necro or my Monk. Both of which I really like actually. I enjoy healing for the most part, but it sucks not having access to the top skills. I do have a ritualist that I like but I hear they are rarely used. Is this true? Else, I may be "different" and give her a go! she's cool and I like healing so it fits me well. I also like offense which I think they have but I haven't seen a good PVP one done (but maybe I have missed it)

thanks a ton for the info! I LOVE their FoW armor, so this maybe a good choice. I never really would have thought about it tbh.

One last thing. Any suggestions on Rit builds that are non-Nightfall based?? Ill check out the forums too, but I wanted to ask incase someone wants to share
