jin or sousuke?
BrassMonkey
should i get acolyte jin or sousuke? i have koss, dunkoro, and melonni. i am a dervish/monk.
darkk wound
get jin..... you can get sousuke and the other heros at the end of nightfall once you have completed it
Keithark
Jin is the better of the 2 ranger hero's and Sousuke is the better of the 2 ellys (IMO) so take whichever one you will most likely want in your group during most of the missions. I think I had Zhed and got Sousuke after beating the game so guess I took Jin on my characters.

If you have Prophecies and can get Olias then you wont need Master of Whispers later on and you can pick Margrid, and since one ranger is enough, you should pick Sousuke - in that case.
If you dont have Prophecies, then I'd take Master of Whispers over Margrid and consequently pick Jin.
Btw I am curious why Keithark thinks Jin is the better hero ranger. I doubt there is any difference in hero AI.

Pick Me
My Mo/E has Jin, the rest have Sousuke.
If you have more skills in Ele over the ranger, then take Sousuke. If you have the same # of skills for both (all or none), then take Sousuke. Jin is good for interupts, but Sousuke is good for damage.
Ele's have good e-management and energy storage. Rangers are only good with expertise e-management when using non-spells.
If you like Koss and Meloni, get Jin and then get Master of Whispers.
If you do not like Koss or Meloni, then get Sousuke and then Magrid.
Personally, I don't care if I have Olais or not, because Master Of Whispers can be my Curse or MM and Olais can be my MM or Blood.

If you are new to Guild Wars, like I was when I got Nightfall and the OP apparently is, you're pretty much stuck with the basic skill set the hero starts out with. Both Jin and Sousuke are decent damage dealers. Margrid has a decent poison build iirc, but the AI will focus on one target instead of spreading it like a human ranger would. At least that's my take.
Teh [prefession]-zorz
whatever one you have elites for.

If you have Nightfall + Prophecies + Faction:
Pick Souseke and wait til you can pick Margrid since You'd already have Olias to have atleast a diverse team. If you choose to pick a ranger hero, give her the Oath Shot Spirit Spam build located in www.guildwarswiki.com. Have her set to Avoid, the build is amazing. Screw the cliche' regular ranger builds. LOL.
Spirit Spammers + a MM FTW = Army Palooza.
If you only have Nightfall + Prophecies:
Get Souseke for the same reason above, although w/o Factions would wont have access to complete the Oath Shot Spirit Spam Build.
If you have Nightfall + Factions or just NF:
UGH, you get my drift. LOL. It doesn't really matter since you can gain access to all your heroes after you beat the game.

I would go with the concenus and pick the one you have the elites for ----and then you can get another ranger or ele later.....at the early stage in the game where you get them they are pretty much equal in terms of damage etc. so it would be your pick-----eg it doesnt really matter in the long run.
(I picked eles for my non ele characters though I use 3 of my heros pretty exclusively dunky, sousuke and olias for most of my characters).

Ritual del Fuego
My first time through I picked Souske because I had a previous ele with some elites and never played ranger before. Then when the time came to pick between Margrid or Master of Whispers I chose MOW because I liked the storyline better. In retrospect, I would have preferred Jin because to me having the abiltiy to interrupt is a must. For my derv I usually run with a MM hero, and two rangers, each with interrupts and pets. This gives me two extra mele pets, minions, along with preventing damage via interrupts. Depending on the area I will sub out a ranger for an ele if I need more damage, etc.
Bottom line is, I would take jin because you will for sure get Zhed as an ele hero early in Kourna and unless you think you will run with two eles, getting jin at least gives you the option of using the ranger. Even if you don't have elites for the ranger you can cap them as you go anyway. (Barrage is cappable pretty early for example) If you go with Souske, unless you are planning on choosing margrid, you will be without a ranger until you finish the game, but will have two eles at your disposal.

Soul of the Scythe
Even if you have no elites and NF is your first campaign, good elites for both Jin and Sousuke are available when u get to Sunspear Sanctuary.(SF in Turai's Procession and Elemental Attunement in Marga Coast for Sousuke, Broad Head Arrow in Marga Coast(pwns btw), and Barrage when you get Koss back in Arkjok Ward for Jin) I took Sousuke first with my first NF character cause I had an ele before and had good nuking skills unlocked. I had a ranger before too but only really had barrage and marksmans wager unlocked.

Actually, it's Burning Arrow you can cap in Marga Coast, Broad Head Arrow is a Factions elite.
Shadowlion
I chose Sousuke because 2 ele rocks. Don't really need ranger to finish the campaign.
