Ctrl/Shift/Alt Modifiers for Hotkeys

I think GW is a great game, though I do have a small gripe dating all the way back from release...
In all the other MMORPGs I've played, I could map my skillbar on top of my WASD keys, kind of like this:
Skill 1 : Shift+Q
Skill 2 : Shift+W
Skill 3 : Shift+E
Skill 4 : Shift+R
Skill 5 : Shift+A
Skill 6 : Shift+S
Skill 7 : Shift+D
Skill 8 : Shift+F
It's too bad I can't use a combination of keys as a command. It could really clean up the keyboard layout, and allow room for other elements of the interface to be mapped (hero skill buttons anyone?), not to mention that it's easier on the fingers.
It's a pretty odd suggestion, though I'd like to know if anyone else felt the same way.

YES!
I've been wanting this too!
I enjoy keeping important controls under my left hand, without having to need to move my hand to another part of the keyboard while in battle or something.
More specifically I've wanted to use keys for my skills and then do something like shift+1 to target party member 1 if I were a healer. There are also a lot more controls that I'd like to use, but don't due to lack of keys under my left hand and my stubborn ways.

Hmmm...I don't think I see the point. I like it the way it is. The layout is perfect so that if I want to call skills as I use them, I can press the [ctrl] with the base of my left palm as I press the number key for the skill I want. The only skill that really stretched this out is the one in the number 8 spot, so I just put a skill there that I don't use in battle. My hand cannot contort enough to hit the qwerasdf keys while holding down ctrl. This allows me to use my right hand on my mouse for targeting and moving. I always thought it would be nice to customize the keyboard, but I don't think I would change much. It might be useful for kids or people with really small hands, but if your hands are normal sized if you tried to take advantage of this layout, I think it is perfect the way it is.

I almost sign all optional suggestions.
But yeah, I actually want this too.
/signed, I don't like having to use the number pad. :/

As someone who has mildly deformed fingers, there are certain keys harder to reach than others. Games that allow mapping keys go a long way in helping themselves be more playable to the disabled as well as the hardcore gamers who own cutting edge peripherals.

Today, I had on of those funny 4 heroes, four pets teams...
With this, I coould set Shift+1...8 to show the pet and hero panels!

To be honest I'd rather have a completely mappable key system where you can bind chains of commands to one key or shift+one key. I.e. you could press a button that automatically targets yourself and then uses healing touch, for instance. Folks with Zboards and such can already do this, so I don't see a gamebreaking issue there.

I like the set-up as is, but then there are you people who don't.

more customisation is always good, more is good in general
