Hey Guys I've posted my problem on the Nvidia site but got no proper response so I was wondering if anybody else has this card and has managed to solve the problem. It goes a little something like this.....

My problem is that my PC as off the other day will not boot up passed the xp logo when graphics card is enabled, the screen just goes blank and says no signal output. It can boot up fine in safe mode, and in normal mode (if I disable the graphics drivers in safe mode), but as soon as I enable the card the screen goes blank and gives me the same error.

Everything was working fine until the other day

I've already tried, re-installing boot drivers, windows, graphics driver uninstalled updated, updated BIOS and checked leads connectors.

My specs are

AMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin 1mb L2cache
Nvidia Geforce 7950GX2
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium skt939 nForce4
Hiper 580W Type-M Black PSU - SLI Certified with APFC
2gb RAM
SATA 80GB drive

Any ideas peeps? If not am gonna send the bad boy back as its still under warranty.

First of all, nice system spec. Anyway, if you can go in too safe mode, then I think the card itself is still working. Try a clean uninstall graphic card driver from the control panel, then add or remove programs (I'm sure you know this already), uninstall the driver then reboot then install a fresh new driver from nvidia.

It also sound like the refresh rate and resolution were set to high for your monitor, I know it sound stupid but happen to me once. You didn't say what monitor you're using, um,..apart from that can't really think off anything. Maybe it is a serious fault with the card itself.

is not true that if the system starts in safe mode the graphic card is ok as in safe mode the graphic card driver are not loaded.
Think the problem is video card defective.
Try unplugging/plugging it again and if same problem and you have another video card try with it.
Anyway in my opinion the card is defective

There's a discussion here and here about what seems to be the same issue.

But, being that those are your posts, it's not really helpful.

I ran into one tid bit that might be pertinent:

"Is the SLI selector card, the thing between the two x16 PCI-E slots, in SLI mode?

If so, try the other side/mode. Also, try a different PCI-E slot."

Thanks for the replies, I've tried the clean install of drivers (twice), tried with both new and old graphics drivers. I've also updated my BIOS, took the card out and changed placed in another PCI-E slot. This is really frustrating, I'm of the mind that something has gone pop in the card and that's why its not running, in which case it will be back off to my friends at ebuyer.com.

Sorry, missed that in the first post.

I take it you are certain you did nothing to change your setup/configuration right before the problem started?

No BIOS changes?

No power options changes?

What's the native resolution of your LCD and have you changed the refresh rate from the LCD's default? <assuming you have LCD monitor>

It's possible a "loose" situation could have caused your system to fail at this point after it had been working and hopefully the circuit protection is keeping you from accidentally frying something in a permanent way.

the Monitor is a LCD Videoseven E17PS.

I changed no settings at all before the problem. I've tested all connectors, changed my leads and made sure that the card is sercurley fastened. I've also booted up with only the essential items plugged in but I still get the same problem.

This is why its so frustrating as normally when something goes wrong, I know that I've changed a setting etc but with this I know I've changed nothing.

I had this card up until a few months ago, and it is very temperamental little thing thats for sure (The whole sli-on-one-card is ropey' as hell if you ask me). I had often experienced 'blanking out' at Windows but fine operation in Safe mode also.
Let me run through a few things (not sure how much you know so forgive me if this appears condescending)...

When you installed the drivers (I also hope you used Driver Cleaner to remove the old ones completely) did you install them 'twice'? As in did you get 2 cards that needed installation.
You'll know for sure if you check your device manager. In there under Display adaptors you should see 2 NVIDIA GeForce 7950gx2's. If you only see one (and possible some other random crap) then that's your problem. If they have different driver versions (never seen this personally before, but it could be possible) then that is certainly not going to be good for your card.
Another possibility is power. If your power supply is faulty it may not be feeding the card(s) enough juice .When I had mine I used a crappy 500 watt thing for a while which would hang a few times at Windows on a cold start-up.

The only other thing I can think of is the setting of your 'sli' options after you install drivers. It shouldn't affect the card too much (should still load Windows) but you never know.

Hope this helps. It's a nice card for sure, but its quite particular about what conditions it likes to function in, so I can completely understand it working for a while then suddenly cutting out on you. It happened to me a few times also. G luck...

Are you using vista as well? Nvidia still doesn't have a fully working driver for SLI in vista yet.

Thanks for posts, ok now to the replies.

Frojack: Yep I did a clean uninstall of the drivers and installed them again, both drivers are installed twice, so under the Display adapters it shows 2 9750GX2's. Now since I get a no signal error the only way I can boot up outside safe mode is to disable one of the 9750gx2's, if I do this I can boot up normally but the card isn't fully working (if that makes sense). When I first got the card I had to change my power supply to a SLI approved one so I don't think thats the problem (I've also booted up with just bare essentials turned on and still same problem). I'll have ago with changing the sli options :0)

Etta: Nope I'm running XP, I know that Vista is causing a few problems at the minute for sli and Nvidia users but that's not effecting me.

Azagoth: Yep I've plugged my monitor into both the output connectors and same problem on both.

Have you checked to see if the PCI-e power connector has become dislodged from the card. If it's not getting the power to run then that'll also give you the 'no signal' message.

I'm guessing the fan start up as it's powered directly through the PCI-e slot itself

Hmm... Then I well and truly have no clue at all. Could be one of the cards is busted. The very fact you need to disable one screams faulty hardware.

Single card solutions for me from now on

Yeah that's the best thing to do really, don't feel bad. I remember when my old gf5950 ultra stoped working after 3 weeks when I first got it ages ago. Good luck with the new card.

Amen, brother! Until they come up with something that's a drastic improvement over SLI and Crossfire it's single-GPU FTW. Only exception is when you need super-high resolutions.

Same here, for gaming I only use a single GPU! Can't see the point in using two cards that won't give double the performance.

However, my works PC has dual 768MB 8800GTX's because of the real time rendering that's needed. Sadly though, I'm not allowed to install on-line games on it.

Well I have a 8800 gtx now and run at 1920x1200. The only game that gives me (tiny) slowdown at max settings is Fear

. Even Quake 4 runs at a rock solid 60 (well, when all the data is loaded to the hd).

In fact I think I only have 1 gig of ram in this machine and the processor is only your basic e6400 core 2 duo (Only got this over the e6300 for having the same name as the pc6400 ram. Yes I'm stupid

). No over-clock or anything (don't believe in the black arts anymore ^_^).
So even on this spec the card just burns through everything. With this kinda' power, who the hell needs sli?

Yes, yes. There are more than a few experienced techs around this forum. Even when you suspect that a piece of hardware is damaged it's still necessary to run tests to make sure. It's nice when your first guess is right, though.
