Are warriors looked down upon?

Please learn how the Warrior works as Tanks are dead in PvE as of the AI change.I prefer Dragon Slash or Final Thrust as opposed to Crippling Slash anyday.Dervs would do a medium amounts of damage.
I would say that Warrior aren't looked down upon It is just hard to judge them although Female Warriors seem a little better.

My Warrior was made at beta, now with all 3 campaigns done i can hardly care less what other party members think about my warrior. He got titles to show for it if i even want to party with anyone cause i hardly have a need for it.

For PUG play tanking is dead in PVE, but a highly coordinated team can still make use of tanking, look at DoA, tanking is one of the main reasons that its possible (for most builds at least). Another example, I just got Razzah (sp?) on my warrior, and the way we did it was DoA style, I ran up and was the meat shield and the rest of the team did damage, but since anet "played" with the agro its a lot harder to to control and usually requires the use of the environment to inhibit the enemy.

I’ve read all of your guys post and you guys do make sense. But if you think about it playing a warrior is not only knowing what you do, but you have to see how your enemy works. As we know warriors have many counters. People just assume warriors are the easiest profession to play but for a warrior you have to know how to build up the adrenaline skills and how to use the skills in combos especially for hammers. You have to know that your suppose to use some skills on the enemy when their knocked down and etc. Plus you have to know that your not suppose to attack through spoil victor or SS. Some people will just kill them self’s and maybe their teammates also. I don’t know but to me a ranger seems to be a much easier profession to play. The only part where someone would seem to have some trouble understanding is the expertise and how they work. And maybe some understanding on the pets and their skills. But other then that it seems pretty easy to play a ranger. You don’t have to worry about different combos except for maybe poison arrow and some other preparations like that. But that’s just me maybe you guys have a different view on this?

When it comes to PvE I always assume that, as was said before, everyone, regardless of class is an utterly useless nub. Especially the warriors. I have personally seen too many people fail horribly at something which is completly mindless and requires little to no skill (Talking about PvE btw.) I made my warrior back in beta and have about 85-90% of my account hours on him. Though the lack of good players in PvP pugs is pretty much the same. People simply don't know what they are doing these days. Though to stay on topic, I deffinitly think warriors are looked down apon yes, though it is for a number of reasons. The main one being of coarse the sheer number of them in the game. When it comes to there only being 1 out of 50 or 100 warriors who actually know what they are doing, It can only be expected that there will be a huge number of useless warriors running around, seeing that about 40% of guild wars population either started as or plays mainly as one. Can't say much for PvE, since it's so mindless I gave it up ages ago, though when it comes to PvP, warriors have many factors they must take into consideration with every step they take. They must always be concious of the other team and their own teams positions, since they are leading the charge for the most part. They need to have a good understanding of distance and where their feet are at all times (don't want to get too deep and force the monks to pull into the other teams middle lines just to get saved.) There are so many other things aswell, like calling spikes for instance, to do it effectively, it is quite a bit more difficult than most would think. Dunno, just my two cents as an overly experience warrior myself ;P.

i could really care less what people say about warriors. they are infinitely important to the entire game/community, and deal more damage than any other melee class without stop. they have great survivability, and are by far the most versitile melee class, and over all classes other than maybe mesmer or rit.
to all those who think they all "suck" just because of a few noobs running around with 6 stances and cyclone with no rez, you're just stereotyping, which in the end, you're missing out on having one of the best classes in the game in your group. by far the noobiest classes in pve are still dervs and sins, they rarely play the game right even when they've been playing gws for years.
regardless, no one can "prove" that they're good until they can even be in a group with someone.. but i guess someone like me that loves their war and plays a lot doesnt have that problem, i never have to look for a group, everyone just adds me and ask for me to join. Obsidian and Kind of a Big Deal will do that with any class though.. idk.. the community is getting more and more predjudice, in the wrong way lol.
EVERY class has noobs, dont hate just because you dont like warriors. i see more crap eles/dervs/sins/rits and rangers than warriors.. maybe i just dont hang out with the gws community you all do or something.. w/e
warriors are and always will be THE melee class.

I got Razah since the update and it only tok 5 minutes to get him and we didn't need to tank in fact we had no warrior with us when I did it with my Monk only a Ranger and everything went fine.Tanking is for the most part dead in GW PvE as it wasn't meant to be that way in the first place. You are a Warrior do lots of damage.
I would say that most aren't looked down apon it is with so many out there it is hard to judge them for me i would go with a down to earth in 1.5k or even an old set of 15k or some different set of armour.when we all see Warriors standning aroud in primevils with their halmet on it certianly tells us something about them. They have a big ego to fill.I would even take someone wearing knights. It tells me they have differnet priorities atm and aren't in a rush to get that set of 15k

I do love the OP mentioning a monk skill in a post about warriors...
Anyway, on topic.
I thought warriors were really easy to play and was a simplistic noob class too. I started out with a ele. Then, after farming and getting so many good warrior weapons, I finally decided to make one. My opinion changed overnight. They are differently more complex then people give them credit for.

No, when you grab the first thing around you will still end with:
-tyria - 3 warriors, 2 rangers and some other professions
-cantha - 2 warriors, at least one assassin and at least one ritualist
-elona - whomever doesnt want to play solo, or those who are low on skill-unlocks on heros, or clueless about the mission. Seems dervishes are always keen on joining parties.
Are they looked down upon? Depends how hard it is to convince them 1 tank is the way to go at hell's precipe.

Warriors in Guild wars get a bad reputation because of the MMO cliched concept of "Tanking". While most people here know what that means, I'll sum it up (ok try to sum it up):
Tanking is where a character of relatively high armor charges into the enemy mob, holding aggro and taking most if not all damage. Most MMOs have a game mechanism called Threat, which is usually generated by high damage attacks and special skills. A tank generates a large amount of threat to each enemy in the mob - the higher the threat caused by the warrior, the less of a chance that those monsters will attack the backline players when they attack the monsters.
Now that you know what it is, you'll be able to see the problem with tanking in Guild Wars: There's no threat or aggro control whatsoever. Hence, no tanks (there are few exceptions, such as farming, but that's totally different). Warriors are made to kill things. Nothing more.
Since tanking is such a common MMO feature, earlier players will automatically assume that that's what warriors do, and you can't blame them. "Every other MMO does it, why not Guild Wars?" The inexperienced players then tell this information to the young warrior and tells him the false purpose of his class (which is something that can happen to any new player of any profession, mind you), and it usually takes awhile before he realizes what he's made to do.

The main reason is because most only knew how to "tank", most of the warriors that are still around use a warrior the way they are meant to be used, to dish out a high amount of damage. "Tanking" was always, and will always slow down the team, the only teams that need "tanks" are groups made up of inexperienced players who just copy a build off of wiki. (This is true in DoA also)
The warrior only ever needs 2 "tank" skills in PvE, dolyak signet, and "watch yourself" anything more than that and you are hurting your team because you are not helping kill the enemy.
I already know someone is going to bring up DoA, for some reason people think DoA is impossible without a tank, TANKS ARE NOT NEEDED IN DoA. Get into a group in DoA without anyone using wiki builds, and they are good at the game and you will see how much faster you can clear an area. (Best done with friends/guildies who you know can play the game well)

Hi, My name is Halmyr, and I'm a warrior by proffesion (mostly PvE but with a bit of PvP).
First I must that yes I agree that their are a lot of bad warrior out there that give us our bad name , but I have personaly seen a few good one's out there.
The warrior proffesion is a simple one to play at first, but it does require some basic understanding of your enviroment. Early on, Hack and slash is the way to go, but as you go on, and this is were the good and the bad gets seperated, a few must have to be learned.
First off, you want to fight as litle enemy's as possible. In area like DoA or FoW, this is very important.
Second, let the enemy come to you, if you rush to the enemy, it gets a lot more emptic for your team to charge, with your monks to the left, the ele in the back, and your warrior somewere behind the enemy, this can be your downfall. If you let your enemy come to you, you can reay your self by being in a more organize formation that lets you kill much more efficintly with less hazard to you.
Third, Patient, I've been in group were the caster were rushing more then me, the feerlesss warrior , Skill and Planning will always win over Rashness and brute strengh. Also many of the skill that you must master as a warrior require a degree of Patient
Fourth: Pulling is an art that you must master, personaly I pull with my agro bubull ( I'm either too good for a longbow or to cheep to get one, you decided ) This help with with some of the Points I've mention
Some of my personal trick I use when I play are these
1) be in front of the party, or what I like to call, controled Leeroing. What I am trying to achieve with this is getting as much aggro as I can on me without leaving my party behind hence killing my self and the rest of the party. Hopefully, I can make those hydra cast meteor shower on me away from the party!
2) Body block: this goes with my first trick, when you charg, try body blocking the melee monster. If you can succesfully do that, the monster, instead of going around you, will try to kill you. Any time a melee monster is running, if you can block it long enough (4-6 seconds) it will start to attack you. If you are not succesfull with this, go attack the squishies.
My personal Favorit order, in general, for the squishies are
1) monks and mesmer
2) Ele and necro
3) rits
4) Paragon, sins, warriors, Dervish and Sins and rangers
I say general because some times, some monster have more priorety then others ( the flame djinin and Afflicted Ritual for example will be on my top priorety when fighting them)
Keep you Party windo open for the love of Baltazar, I've l;earn that lesson the hard way just there, killing things with my party window close, open it to see how things are going....whole party dead except me the next thing I know, I'm dead
Its little things like this that make the difference between a good warrior and a bad one. Its truly unfortunate that so many people have to ruins the name of such a noble proffesion .I try too, make up for those who lack, but its not an easy job. If need a warrior and see me, give me a shout, and I'l show you how good a job I can do

My two cents on the matter...
I have extensive experience when it comes to playing as a necromancer, monk, ranger, or warrior. Of all the classes I know well, and those I've dabbled in, I find the warrior the best of them all. Sure, right off the bat the warrior class is easy to pick up and play, but there are many complex builds out there that require talent to use.
I remember fresh from soloing Dungeon Siege I and II with a warrior, I charged into my first battle alone and was ripped apart in mere seconds, so I had to get accustomed to party play again. Throughout my experiences in GW, I created and modified many builds. I have to admit the only other character I really enjoy playing as is the monk class.
Basically, the beautiful thing about the warrior is you can either dumb down the game play using this profession and hack away, or you can create something very clever and use it to your advantage.

The first character i ever played on GW was a W/Mo. It is my primary character out of like 6 and i love playing it. i never once tried to make it a tank because i have the mindset "thats a big fnuckin hammer" why carry a big fnuckin hammer if i aint gonna smash something with it? i believe im a good player, ive never had complaints, and more than a couple compliments. In any game like this the warrior type class is the first i choose cause i like to beat up shit. im good at it. as long as people can talk they are going to complain about something. nerf this and nerf that my warrior is still going to beat shit up.

Tanking isnt really dead. It's dead if you are planning to use Primary skills to tank. Since stances went to the doghouse PVP and PVE players keep fighting with each other.
Like the usual scenario..."If you play with fire you're gonna get burned."
To my ARCH-Enemies PVP players. THX for ruining Guild Wars you b*stards. What did the PVP players do to get the stances nerfed?
You really have no clue.

Basically most warriors dont know how to play the profession. Almost all the warrior I play with think theyre the main dmg dealers. im playing with my nuker and the two wammos say how they do so much more dmg than elementalists. which is totally stupid. they call them tanks for a reason... to take all the dmg so the casters can finish off the enemies. i for the most part can hold an aggro pretty well on my tank and dont over aggro. and come on a Crystalline and a gloom shield looks way better than almost any wand or staff.

^^^ I agree with dubiel005 ^^^
Most of what I do is 4/5 man FoW. My party does not need a warrior who can deal damage, we need one who can hold aggro and stay alive without too much babysitting and who waits for everyone to say they are ready before running off to aggro the next group.
"Are warriors looked down upon?"
Depends on the warrior, there are many who do give the class a bad name. When I find one who does a good job I make sure I tell him.

Wow.... just... um.... do you actually have a clue as to what you are talking about? Warriors do great damage, and they are NOT meant to take and hold aggro.
TANKS ARE NOT NEEDED IN ANY PART OF THE GAME.
People who think they need tanks are generally bad at the game themselves, it just shows that you know NOTHING about the profession.

The resons warrior are look down, is the same reasons Assasin and Dervish are look down, very few of them are good.
Now, I pride my self on being a good warrior, and I have my built and tactic that works for me, and in exchange helps the party. I also pride my self on always keeping my mind open's to every class and class combination. I've been playing since realease, and I have to say, I've seen my fair share of bad players, from monk, to mesmer, to elementist, and even mesmer. But even after all that, I keep my option open, and I'm still willing to try new builts.
Its really a shame that your so closed like that really, each class can bring its own and unique contribution to the party, you just need to give them a chance.
This only seems to prove this theory

(Again, not a flame, just a figure of speech.) As I recall, you disappeared from the last thread after dishonest debating (claims melign intervention affects Vital Boon without even looking at it) and outright lying about your own previous statements to weasel out of getting caught. That isn't to say I won't listen to you, just as long as you provide proof to backup your claims, like you have to in a real debate that will have a valid conclusion. Otherwise, as everyone should for anyone, I'll consider the claims to be baseless garbage. Notice I provided extensive evidence to back up my claims, using the formulas for in-game damage mechanics. Guesstimates, conjecture, and opinions prove nothing.
On another note:
I don't think the Warrior is looked down on too much, not even that bad in PvE. I'm not trying to say the Warrior is a useless class, but not as exaggerated as a lot of people make it out to be.
this guy trys to make as much trouble as possible, so try not to respond to him. he was all over my debate about the counters on a dervish, and my personal opinions on what makes the class weaker than people are pulling the hype up for, saying that dervs are invicible/can take on whole teams alone ect. anyone that defends anything will get shot down with his "facts", then get told they know nothing about the game lol
and to Soti...
grab a shovel? digging deeper? please, water magic has its place, but a huge AoE ring of a snare, thats practically spammable, and on top of that low costing (i.e. Grasping Earth), thats a GOOD snare, especially for a frontliner, nice and close to that mid/backline. so what is he grabbing a shovel for? more of your crazy talk?
