The Time has Come. A new contest in the works.

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a LONG time since I last hosted a community contest, too long in fact. So... I am here to inform you that in the coming days, a new fabulous contest will be emerging with some great prizes sure to please.

My past events have been mildly successful, with my last contest fetching a startling 100+ attendees.

For this upcoming contest, I am going to rent out a location. After about 1 hour of careful consideration looking at lighting, central location, size, atmosphere, layout, etc, I have decided to host the event in International District 1 of SERENITY TEMPLE. It has an amphitheatre like area for a grand party and ball, a nice surrounding area for chitchat and games, and is open and roomy.

Second on the agenda will be the prizes. I am a bit strapped financially and item wise this time (from lack of play), so donations will be gladly accepted (plats, gold and green items, holiday items, booze, etc). Donations will be based on a purely non-profit basis, and given out to the masses. PM me here on guru if you would like to donate and what you plan to donate. Any excellent green farmers, I could really use your fast farming services to gather some decent easy to farm greens to be used as door busters and lottery style prizes. The grand prize and main event type are to be announced, most likely tomorrow as my plans for the even continue.

What I want is the SINGLE LARGEST COMMUNITY EVENT IN GUILDWARS HISTORY to take place in Serenity Temple on the preplanned date yet to be announced. I think if I have 3-4x as many attendees as my Free FoW contest, this event is sure to be a great time.

Gaile, your support for this event would be great, and I would love to have you make a guest appearance perhaps for the grand prize giveaway and some mini events inbetween. I hope you see this thread.

Anywho... I will be posting a duplicate to this on GWO in hopes that the number of attendees to this event will increase and really make it successful. *Fingers Crossed*

Who needs monsters coming to kill us to have fun? I have made great contests long before ANET got involved. If they want to come and have some fun with us, I openly welcome them, but I don't need to plan my event around ANET coming. Community events = non ANET funded. If ANET wants to donate some time to code something fun like fireworks, I am all for it, but we have sparklers, bottle rockets, and poppers to do that ourselves.

Anywho, I'm starting to pound out the form of the contest, I will update here as I come up with a base of events.

Ok guys. Here is the update and the preliminary list of planned events with some detail on positions that need filling.



Events: Dancing, Food (sweets), Wine, Ale, Tonics, Nogs, Absinthe, Door Prizes, Raffles, Rock-Paper-Scissors contests, Best Outfit Contest (male and female, each class), Scavenger Hunts, Lottery (to be held on GWGuru and GWO)

Ideas welcomed.

Charr NOT welcomed.

Dancing: Line style and couples, Masks/Helms required (use holiday masks and helms for outfits).

Need 3 Volunteers to judge best Outfit for each class and sex. Judge board will receive honorable mention and 10k for their services. Minimum 3 hour time pledge for participation REQUIRED! Thanks.

Need 5 Rock-Paper-Scissors pros to play “The House” in the betting area (need 5 on the floor at all times). Payment is 3k per hour, minimum of 2 hour commitment. Must have good reputation and must provide 5 references via Guru/GWO PMs with reference to your name and trustworthiness.

Need 2 (at all times on the floor) Caterers for food/drink distribution. Same as House Dealers above, 5 references needed proving credibility, payment is 3k per hour, minimum 1 hour commitment. Caterers must be WELL dressed, no skimpy clothes, no bikinis, no short shorts or skirts, no Speedos, little to no skin showing! Very formal dress a BIG PLUS!


Need 4 Scavenger Item Checkers for Scavenger hunt clue checking. Also included, need one Scavenger Hunt Clue master to give out clues. Character must not be known ingame, to prevent people from PMing. Item Checkers will have unique codes given out and will give the IGN of the Clue Master to those that pass each phase of the scavenger hunt. He will then give out new clues. 2 Hours required for each position, Pay is 6k per hour. 6 References needed and EXTREMELY GOOD image/rapport needed on either GWG or GWO, very involved members will be trusted for these positions.

If you chose to participate as a STAFF MEMBER, you are disqualified from the scavenger hunt main event and the mini quiz events. If you have 2 accounts, you may enter the Best Outfit contest on your other account, as well as participate in the lottery on GWO/GWGuru.





DONATIONS: Accepted donations are as follows:

Greens: Any green from any continent is an acceptable form of donation.

Golds: Only 15%^50, 15% while enchanted/stance, req11-8 weapons and side items will be accepted (for melee) Caster items may be any req, put must have perfect mods. +5Energy^50, +5 energy while enchanted, 20/20 casting, etc.

Any form of Sweets, Foods, Ales, or other forms of intoxication are gladly accepted.

Any rare materials such as ectos, shards, jewels, Gemstones, Monstrous Items, etc. No common materials will be accepted.

Runes: All Superior runes will be accepted, Major and Minor vigor, Attunement and Vitae, and POPULAR minor runes (aka Primary attribute runes such as strength, mysticism, expertise, energy storage, etc).


All donations are guaranteed non-profit, and you will be put on the Honorable Donor List on GWO and GWGuru. Top 10 donators will receive a personal prize from myself for their kindness (to be determined after the contest)

Dates are to be announced, based on when I have a lot of time, a convenient time for my Euro pals to attend as well as American. Aussies might be left out unless you stay up really late/get up rly early because of time zone conflicts. Once I have the time figured out, I will have this thread closed and I will open up the official PreEvent thread with times, event schedule, Staff roster, etc. A lot needs to come together for an event like this, and that requires some planning time.

Well, I can't give ya any spectacular references, but if you find yourself short on staff, I'm always here

If you don't think you can come up with the references, then the judges of the costume contest don't actually need them. The other categories will either A). Be holding sums of gold and items, and I need to trust them, or B). Have answers to the scavenger hunt riddles. Thus, I need to know I can trust them. If you are interested in a reference required position, post here, then have your references send me a PM here on Guru with the following Topic Line:

Reference for XXX for Position of XXX.

I will review the reference. Mods of guru do not require a reference, nor do GWO mods.

Anyways, i find the idea very very cool, but would like to know a date and time, maybe i can apply for a staff place.

Actually, I had an update on that very issue. Caterers will collect gold fees for drinks and sweets if you need some. It is advised you Bring your own sweets and ale (BYOB), but these items will be available for a low price. I ask that you do not buy more then 3 units within a 1 hr time period. The prices are very low (25g per alcohol and 30g for each sweet). These fees are in place so that in case we start to run low, some of the proceeds can be used to replenish supplies. If supplies dwindle too far, I will have to close the bar and replenish it myself with my own gold supply. I cannot spend more then 100k on these items though, so please be considerate. The evening will not be to work on your confectionery title or ale hound, but rather to just enjoy the party. Hope that clears up the caterer bit. They are servers that will collect the gold fee and give you the items.

Do you want donation promises posted here or PMed? I have several items, that are too good to merch, but I'm too busy to sell.

Also, you mentioned fireworks, do you need those?

lol. I'm in! I hope this does well. One suggestion: Try to spread it out amongst districts. I can help for volunteer work if I show up, but I don't know if I can depending on the times and date, so I'm not going to sign up beforehand.

The event is going to be either this coming Saturday or the following Saturday. Depends on what day I am free. Most likely times are 7PM EST, which is midnight in europe, and 9AM for you aussies.

PS: Donations are THROUGH THE ROOF! You guys are VERY generous! This event is sure to be a blast this time! I still need more alcohol and sweets, as well as party favors and fireworks! Snowmen summoners, ghosts in the box, etc! I am full up on weapons for now, materials and party items will still be accepted however. I will reopen Greens and Golds/Rune donation once I solve some storage space issues.

If you have the event this comming Saturday it could very well coincide with the release of Hard Mode, I don't know if that could be a problem but this great event might lose some traffic if its scheduled at the same time.

First of all i would just like to say good job! I have always wanted to do something like this but have never had the time or energy for it. But if you have started I would like to help you. Tell me if you need any more help with the event, i can be a judge or take another role if needed and can donte alcohol and fireworks.

I don't own any super-expensive gold items, but I have managed to accumulate a tidy sum of currency. Would donations be preferred in the form of platinum or something else such as ale? It probably doesn't matter much, but I'm all for saving you some time and storage space.

Platinum donations are currently ok, but once I cash out some of my stuff, storage will be full up. Ale is ALWAYS WELCOMED, as are other party items such as snowmen and sugary deliciousnesses. Is that a word? LOL.

I have many fireworks that I can donate to you. I'll give them to you next time I find you online. I would like to help staff, but since I read the forum instead of post, I have no references. (This is my first post since I started reading the forums with this account in December)

Alrighty. Had a nice day of donations, the event is really looking like it will be successful. I have had probably 200+ people PM me so far, so this is looking like a Go for launch! Major thread updates Tuesday sometime, followed by Wednesday, the big PreEvent thread launch and the closing of this thread if all goes smoothly.

Once the preevent thread is launched, all dates will be final, event plan will be set, and the elite Ballroom staff decided.
