Best PCI video card?

Does anyone know of any high-end PCI video cards? I'm looking for a PCI video card with the best specs possible, spare no expense.

just wondering why do you want pci anyways?. its old technology as far as gfx is concerned.

Im getting PCI cause my pc only has PCI slots, and i dont want to buy a new pc yet. Ill prob get a new pc in two years.

Its has a 800 memory clock and 550 core clock. Wouldnt that make it the best on the page? Unless there's something that makes it bad that i missed.

i personally won't spend that much money on a PCI card. in fact, you probably won't see much performance difference between any one of them. this is because the PCI bandwidth is too small for the amount of data that's needed to render high quality images to the GPU and VRAM, so much of the power of the better cards are completely wasted.

if you insist on buying a pci video card, then go buy one. usually, i think it is safe to assume that higher clock speed would give you better fps, but not this time. i'll bet that any of those cards would saturate the pci bus, meaning you probably won't notice a difference because the speed is limited by the bus, not the card. might as well go for the cheapest one...

that said, personally i wouldn't spend any money on a pci video card. my 9 year old pc had agp, and that's enough reason for me to stay away from pci, even if that's the only option.

Don't you mean PCI - Express? Theres a huge difference between PCI and PCIE, PCIe = the current standard graphics card slot, PCI = garbage legacy slot.

If you seriously have a PCI card a find it amazing who you are running guild wars.

heck, i can run GW with an integrated 60 mb graphics card. Its just the tiniest bit laggy.

That one is a low-profile card for small form factor cases.

The x1550 does seem to be the most powerful GPU available for the PCI interface at this time. The GeForce 6200 is ok too, but difficult to find. I wouldn't go crazy, though. That PCI slot is going to limit you to a point, so there's no point in buying a $150 card when an $80 will do just as well. That Diamond x1550 for $87 after rebate is a pretty decent value, all things considered. However, when you look at the fact that you can get a 7600GT PCI-Express 16x for around $100 and it blows any PCI card COMPLETELY out of the water it goes to show that buying a PCI video card at all isn't a great value in general.

As far as the PCI bus not being fast enough for the x1550, that's true to a point. I mean, it all depends on how much texture data is being transferred. It's really hard to find benchmarks for PCI cards, so it's hard to back up any arguments one way or the other (although in a previous similar thread I did post some benches showing that the 6200 was, in fact, much faster than other PCI cards). The x1550 should be a bit faster still. In one of the reviews on Newegg.com someone mentioned that the x1550 PCI is a lot faster than their Radeon 9250, which would lead me to believe that the x1550 PCI is significantly faster than older PCI cards. *shrug* Fill rate doesn't depend nearly as much on the bus bandwidth with the texture quality turned down a bit, and the additional scene data isn't really all that bulky.

I wouldn't spend much on a PCI card either, but that statement just isn't true. There's a big difference between a 9250 and a 6200. Granted, you're not going to get the performance of a PCI-Express card, but saying that there's no difference between PCI cards when that's all you have to work with is just false. In another thread I posted benches for the 6200 PCI that were much faster than the 9250 or fx5500. It took some time to find them, so I'll try to find them again tomorrow (they're in a thread around here somewhere...).

Sure, go with the 1550.
If you don't need a low-profile card (for smaller cases) go with the Diamond I guess.
I'm really happy with my HIS 1650 agp card I have right now but yeah, if you don't need the low-profile/form factor, probablys shouldn't bother paying extra for it.

256MB 128-bit > 256MB 64-bit.
So defently the DIAMOND X1550PRO256PSB for pci.

It may be worth your while to save up to purchase a newer PC, especially considering what the rest of your system must look like if it doesn't even have an AGP 2x slot.

However, if you're dead-set on buying a PCI card, then the Diamond x1550 does seem to be a decent PCI card.
