Just a bad day for me in GW
Elithion
I think I've plateaued with my Dervish. I'm only lvl 14 and still on Istan tho. When I first started everything was so great! No one could kill me, I had enchants and killer scythe attacks! Questing started to get boring, and I wanted more missions. But alas, quest away I did trying to gain lvls. So today I get on and start doing some quests. Wave after wave after wave of Mandragor attack, killing me and my Heroes. So this happens several times and I decide "Ok, screw it, I'll just do the main quest." But then its just wave after wave after wave of corsairs, until eventually I only have 40% of my initial health and energy to work with. These effing mobs have like 30-man raids against me, it gets so frustrating sometimes! I just want to do the quests and get on with it. And its not like there's some tactics that I'm missing, its just that there are SO MANY of them, and my morale just keeps going down and down...
/sigh maybe tomorrow will be better.

Make a PUG?
Or ask someone for help?

What is the name of the quest you are having problems with?
Plague
The transition from one land to another often forces you to compensate in your tactics. I sometimes have to sacrifice the role I want to play to simply fill the roll my inadequate team members (human and otherwise) fail at.
Sometimes a single hero with the right build can basically solve all your problems. It also depends on how many teammates you have with you.
All problems with PvE can be solved with the right build and team build, regardless of profession.
However, ANet does sometimes make things unnecessarily hard and unrewarding.

500 gold the quest is in Latenda Bog.

Make sure you don't have too many quests selected at one time in the same area. Sometimes, quests spawn monsters and foes that normally don't appear. When you walk out into the IsoWorld, you'll be ambushed by all these foes at one time, even though they are seperate quests.
Always happened to me when I first started playing.

Sounds like that Master quest in Istan. Cant remember the name but it involves protecting a monument from mandragor raids.

Sounds like your in need of a hero re-skill change your heros skill setup round abit see what happens. I had the same problem going from Sulpher wastelands to the Realm of Torment now if im lucky i can kill a mob

go to the Hero section in the campfire and try and set up your hero's with suggested builds from there. It may make your life easier.

In your hench/hero team try have 2 healer monks a nuker and olias MM. The rest is up to you, it got me through most the game.

Thanks for all the advice guy, I'll be sure to erase some quests from my log

If it is one of the "masters" quests, come back to it later after you are more than level 14. What level are your heroes? If it is not a masters quest, what quest is it. Like FelixCarter said, you may have accepted a masters quest in the Bog which is spawning all the baddies when you try to do the primary quests. If that is the case, just abandon the masters quest and the spawn should go away.

My first Nightfall character was a dervish and I remember having a TON of problems with Lahtenda Bog when I first got there. I don't remember exactly how I fixed them - I think it's just a matter of waiting for your own level to catch up with the levels of the foes in the area, if it's not right, and until that happens things will be tough. Take the easiest quests you can, see if there are any other quests you're missing earlier in the island, make sure you haven't missed a mission, that sort of thing. It'll help.
That same dervish just got the the Realm of Torment and now I'm struggling again. This time I don't have the same convenient excuse. Nightfall has taken me so much more time than the other two campaigns - I hit a wall of some kind and then I end up spending weeks going back and playing other characters so that I can get more skills for my heroes, or grinding for lightbringer points, or just trying to figure out how to play my char better given the skills I already have.
The only time anything similar has ever happened to my was my first GW character - in Prophecies. I started her, got her out of pre-searing when she was still really low level, didn't understand how missions worked, and I ended up trying to do the duke's daughter quest with a level 8 mesmer without ever completing the Great Northern Wall. It was ridiculously hard and I got so very very frustrated...eventually I figured out that actually, I just wasn't supposed to be in that part of the continent and I had a lot of ground to cover before I would get back there.
But it was a good lesson. Since then when I'm having major trouble I stop and ask: OK, where did I go wrong/what did I miss? And usually, there's a reasonable answer.

" What Do You Do with A Drunken Shauben " is the name of the quest. What I did when I first made a Dervish was wait until I was able to get Olias hero and make him a minion master then go in and lay the smackdown on those Corsairs.

I went through the same thing on my derv. At about the same level I found myself getting destroyed by enemies that I could easily handle with most chars of a similar level. I just grinded it out through quests to finally get to 20, and found the mystic sandstorm build that most people are using these days. It may be the "flavor of the month" but it does work and it can be fun to use. I still find that without a stoneflesh build, dervs are like a wannabe warrior. They just don't tank very well on their own. It just goes with the territory I suppose. You either have to learn to live with alot of frustration or switch to something else. They can be fun if used correctly, but I find that more than any other char, you have to greatly adapt to just about every situation. Mystic Regeneration is your best friend, use it

I don't know about you guys, but I really hated the Nightfall "pre-searing" on Istan. The quests were long, monsters spawned every two steps (especially in that Godforsaken Lathenda Bog), and leveling the heroes was so annoying.
The Istan part of the game is the reason that I haven't done anything with my Paragon, its just such a poor grind in comparison to the rest of the game.
I liked the Factions grind because it was over so quickly and you were almost insta-20'd by the time you got to the mainland. The Presearing in Prophecies was cool too in terms of flavor, and the fact that you could just get runs to the desert, ascend, and insta-20.
Nightfall pregame was just... awful...
Did I mention that I really hate leveling heroes?
Eh, just keep at it I guess, it will all pay off later: in the form of having to redo the command post quests for every character, and lots of long retarded missions until you finally get somewhere worthwhile...

Funny enough, I rather like Istan, more so than the mainland. Mainland is great but after a while its just sand, sand and more sand and some big rocks.
