Trappers Speed vs QZ/EW
P A L P H R A M O N D
I couldn't find anything on this, but I know that most trapper builds use QZ/EW instead of Trappers Speed for sheer volume of traps dropped. Is Trappers Speed 25% activation time too much of a detriment, if you use it instead of QZ/EW, you can add anther trap, though I suppose all you really need is Dust Trap echoed a bunch. What are your thoughts on laying as many traps as possible quickly in regards to these two options? I am just going to start trying to solo trap my way through as much of Cantha as possible, mostly for fun, and maybe even as a way to get Survivor.

I don't recommend trapping for getting Survivor, because a wrong pull can mean death. Stick with safer stuff. ^_^
I haven't used Trapper's Speed, but from the skill description, QZ/EW is superior, especially for soloing as an Echo Trapper.
Dust Trap is 25 en, and you need EW to be able to lay a bunch. With a +20 staff AND QZ, you will at most lie 5 before the first goes off.
Faster activation sucks. It would drop it to about 67 seconds, and that's not enough time to lay down 9 dusts. And nothing is more fun than an enemy being hit by 9 dusts.

I'd really like the challenge of trapping for Survivor, but Ill mix and match tactics, as per your suggestion. Yeah, I figured Trappers Speed wasn't as good, but was very tempted by the extra skill slot.

If your not in a trapper team NEVER EVER bring QZ/EW. It screws over your team much more than the enemies.
As for solo trapping, Trappers Speed > Serpents Quickness. Faster activation means alot in PvE, setting a trap near a foe is like using turning on a siren... at least half the time they'll instantly to turn to attacking you. But you'll need QZ/EW there too. The maths is probably wrong, but QZ+EW = 50% less recharge and 25% more. So you'd still need Trappers Speed. But if your trying it completely alone you'll need both that and high expertise/wilderness, probably sups in both.
Its really not worth the effort trying to solo trap Cantha. Its entirely doable if you're extremely careful luring... but would take so ridiculously long. Can you imagine how long it'd take to kill Dredge Gardeners or Jade Brotherhood Ritualists, if it's even possible?

I know it would take awhile, but it seems like an intriguing challenge. So you are saying I should take Trappers Speed, QZ, and EW when solo-trapping?
Guana
Trappers Speed its to substitute Serpent Quickness, not EW+QZ
EW+QZ+Serpent or EW+QZ+Trapper´s Speed, you need the spirits if you want to put more than 2 or 3 traps at once.
If you are in a group and want to trap in combat then Trapper´s Focus+Trapper´s Speed its the best choice (with assassin as secondary for teleportation)
EW+QZ+Serpent or EW+QZ+Trapper´s Speed, you need the spirits if you want to put more than 2 or 3 traps at once.

I actually find dual trapping is relatively safe after you've cleared the first few aataxes as long as you don't pull. However I went afk once for like two mins and I came back to find some stupid Grasping Darkness' molesting my poor Ranger's corpse
Yeah that wasn't good for getting the second tier of Survivor
That said this is soloing so ignore my post

I've echo trapped alot recently, not for drops or survivor, but for LB points at stygian (and lets face it, you could always use skill points!)
With my druids and my best staff i have 47 energy total, and i run dust trap 3 times right in a row + echo and arcane echo, barbed and tripwire, then i run the 3 dust traps again and the other 2 again, then the original dust trap, and barbed trap, by now im recasting EW Echo, Dust trap, Echo'd Dust trap, barbed, tripwire, recast QZ, pull, be sure to keep serpents up by casting it once, and twice after its about to expire, then you dont have to worry about it
never run out of energy and there isnt more than a 1 second pause between skills anywhere

Thanks for the tips guys, and I did mean this for solo trapping, so now I know what ta do. My only experience trapping is in old old IWAY teams lol.

i think the premise of EW/QZ and trapper's speed (all at once) is that EW makes it possible to lay the volume of dust traps, while providing 25% less re-charge.
Trapper's speed offsets this by increasing recharge by 25%, and furthermore lets you lay traps 25% faster.
Now the first two have been cancelled, QZ makes all traps recharge twice as fast, which means that you can get in those elusive 9 dust traps. QZ also makes skills cost more energy, but the EW stops it costing too much.
That's why, as a solo trapper, i bring all 3.

if you're using [skill]Oath Shot[/skill] which a lot of trappers use you dont even need the QZ... but yeah EW+TS is pretty mandatory for a trapper. and if you're not using Oath Shot you might as well use [skill]Spike Trap[/skill] for more damage and havoc...
Sir Mad
^ Might take Echo instead, if you're looking for damage...

In solo, I go R/Me and echo dust trap, and use both spirits. Works fine.
In groups, I go R/Mo (for reusable res), as there are 2 or 3 people and there is no need for as fast a recharge time (sometimes we bring spirits, some people may also/or use SQ/TS).
Honestly all these ways work just fine, IMO. Never been in a trap group (group, I don't know about solo) where spirits/SQ/TS makes that big a difference.
