Ascalonian is incorrect.
I'm sorry, but you're actually incorrect. They are called Ascalonian Keys. Go check out the merchants in Ascalon.

Ascalonian is incorrect.
I'm sure they say "Ascalonian Keys" but whatever... The definition of Ascalonian and its plural - Ascalonians, translates 'only' as "Ascalon Person/People". That's the only time you can use that word, which means it isn't incorrect. It's more accurate, however, to say 'Ascalon Warrior' than 'Ascalonian Warrior'. The first is the same as saying "Warrior of Ascalon" while the second is the same as saying "Warrior of the Ascalon People". I think simplicity is easier.

I wouldn't have used keys in my example btw, they aren't people :P

I love his imagery of the Norn fighting the ice wyrm in the snowstorm. It kind of reminds me of one of my favorite movie scenes of all time... In 13th Warrior, where the vikings + 1 are on the ship, and it starts with a closeup of Antonio shivering in the rain, but you hear laughing, and it zooms out and it is raining hard, the waves are huge, and all the vikings are like "bring it"...while laughing.

I am interested to hear more about what a "multi-level dungeon" is because the way the interview put it, is that it will be a completely new mechanic. The more I hear, the less I think it will be like Tombs...

Maybe multilevel dungeons are random generated.

Talking about asuras, those little house elf wannabes are too cutesy to be called asuras. If I recall correctly Asuras are actually a race of fierce celestials. There http://www.yugioh-cards.net/Merchant...db2-en183.html

Specifically, Hindu spirits, also known as demons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asura (as opposed to Devas)

They are also referred to in Buddhism:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asura_%28Buddhism%29

Quote:
The Asuras formerly lived in the Trayastrimsa world, on the peak of Mount Sumeru, with the other gods of that world. When Sakra became the ruler of that world, the Asuras celebrated by drinking a lot of Gandapana wine, a liquor so strong that Sakra forbade the other gods to drink it. Weakened by their drunkenness, the Asuras could not resist when Sakra had the whole lot of them thrown over the edge of Trayastrimsa into what would become the Asura-world at the base of Sumeru. A tree grows there called Cittapatali; when the Asuras saw it blossom, they saw that it was different from the Paricchattaka (Sanskrit: Pariyatra) tree which had grown in their old home, and they knew that they were dispossessed.

They now meditated on war. In armor and weapons, they climbed up the steep slopes of Sumeru "like ants". Sakra set out to meet them, but was forced to retreat because of their numbers. Passing through the forest where the garudas live on his flying chariot, Sakra saw that his passage was destroying the nests of the garudas and ordered his charioteer Matali to turn back. When the pursuing Asuras saw Sakra turn about, they felt certain that he must be coming back with an even larger army, and they fled, ceding all the ground they had gained.

I'm not calling it lies but i'd rather call it lack of research. The two titles were heavily discussed which I wouldn't actually call well received. I've got a feeling this statement was based entirely upon frequentation numbers of the titles, showing they had a much larger distribution than every single other title. The reason for this is not their popularity but instead the reason that when Nightfall was released the game required you to grind the Sunspear Title on a foreign character to continue with the storyline.

________

The overall article is quite nice to read and sounds promising. We'll see how it turns out after it's finished.

Its Ascalonians. Ascalons isn't grammatically correct. adding an S isn't one of the correct suffixes in this situation.

Before you bring up luxons and kurzicks, those are tribe names and not based on country names.

Grammatically correct? What does grammar have to do with it?

Language and references are a matter of cultural nuances...has nothing to do with grammar.

What does the canon say?

the canon cant even get it right it says ascalonian and ascalons in diffrent places.

Gramer has alot to do with it. there are no canthas, there are canthans. there are no elonas, there are elonians.

Seeing as every other group of people in the game use the right suffix, and the fact that ascalon is based on a midevil english world, it would make 100% sense that it follows suit and that they are called ascalonians.

Ascalons is such bad english that I still wouldn't say it even IF anet said thats their official name.

Agreed. I don't know why they're so determined to add more PVE-only grindskills like Lightbringer's Gaze.

Its also a bummer how he gave such an evasive answer to the "how much content?" question. Makes me worry that it might be pretty small.

Ah, well. I still love the general concept and I'm still really looking forward to it.

I just hope that isn't their answer to lesser used Primary Professions in PvE. Seems like a cop-out if that's the case, guess we'll find out in time though.

No need to carry it on.

I'm really worried about GW:EN. Its either gonna be a master piece or a total disaster. I hope its the first.

From reading more information on GW:EN, it sounds like it's going to contain new storyline, armors and weapons for existing classes. Don't seem like there is a chance for them to put out a regular and collection edition for GW:EN.

I wouldn't expect too much at least area-wise. I think one of the earlier interviews mentioned that game will cost less since it isn't a stand-alone campaign, so I'd assume there will be much less content than in, say, Factions which is currently the shortest game of the three. But as said the price will reflect that too.

I did a little investigation and the term "Ascalons" pops up in over a dozen quests.

So either ANET needs to get this straight or "Ascalons" is the right term to use.

Funny, everyone I know hates the grinding of those title tracks.

And sigh, confirmation that the craptastic PvE-only skills are nothing but power escalation.

Why would you think that?

It costs less BECAUSE its an expansion, not because its going to have less content. All expansions by default are much cheaper because you have to buy a core game.

Example: Everquest II would be the normal $49.99 and all expansions would cost $39.99. And that's because it would normally require people to pick up the original core game first. (There currently is a deal right now that gives you the core game and all of the expansions for $39.99.)

GW:EN has been in development for about as long as a Full Chapter. And since they don't have to recreate newbie areas, I expect it to be full of new content that starts at or near lvl 20.

Well there are plenty of counterexamples too, like Lord of Destruction for Diablo II, Brood Wars for Starcraft, Tribunal and Bloodmoon for Morrowind and so on. All of those had a decent amount of content but they weren't as big as the original game.

Anyway, it's pure speculation at this point. I think they are being cautious about their wording at this point so that there won't be an influx of "But they promised!" comments later. I like to keep my expectations low until some more facts are released.

Once people find out what carries over in the Hall of Monuments, will Anet allow people to "earn" them in the previous Chapters, and THEN "immortalize" them? Can we go back and forth? I can see "Monument-farming" happening in GWEN, and I have to say, I'm for it. I mean, suppose you were only a few (dozen) hours of farming/IDing for Gold Items before you could get the Max Title(s), but you REALLY wanted to see what your character would look like, RIGHT NOW? Suppose one of your alts doesn't HAVE any Titles, but they were your favorite character? (Hey, it could happen.)

Jeez, what did you do, dodge all enemies or something? I just played the game normally, did all the quests, and those titles kept up nicely. Never did I have to grind excessively just to proceed in the game.

I wouldn't say it's pure speculation. The official GW wiki lists 18 dungeon levels in just the first act...and there's 3 acts.

Everybody go to Gamespot right now and scroll down to the bottom on the main page: http://www.gamespot.com

It's #1!!! When was the last time a Guild Wars game was even on the top ten of anything on GameSpot? Occaisonally its in the "Coming Soon" section of PC at maybe above 5, but 1 overall in the whole site??? They didn't even generate that much hype! Sorry about me rambling on, just suprises me and makes me happier about Guild Wars as it is. Everyone go to gamespot and click on EotN, make its popularity rise! XD
