I have always been interested in making video games... and many of my ideas I have saved... these sketches are from a game I was 'making' in the early nineties. I just happened to pull them out when I was sketching my weapons for the weapon contest....
..and I noticed many similarities in my game..compared to GW... I'ts no wonder I love this game...enjoy....
Similar races:
ASURA = Miyan
these guys live in the trees instead of the ground... but they are similar in size and personality....
Norn = Hylorian
The Hylorian in my story would be able to transform into any animal they touched...
Charr = Nubien
okay...well... so they look nothing like each other... but they are similar in personality... The clanlike Nubien start out as the enemies... but they are misunderstood and later become allies.
Customizable characters:
The one on the left I actually made a 3d game model of... in Maya
Professions:
MMO's were not popular back then... but in my game you could still choose a 'class' ....My version of the assasin:
Even the left side of my map reminds me of GW:
....and of course no game would be complete w/out an evil archenemy:
I think Kane here looks a lot like Gwen:
One reason why I love GW (and why I'm stoked about GW2)

Mistical miss
Nice sketches and yeah they have something alike but don't all mmorpgs?

hmmm... well I guess so. This was before MMORPG's really existed like they do now. (I shoulda got into game design...sigh)
I just think GW has a perfect template with the world they have created.... I would have changed little if it was me making these games.

I really like the Nubien sketches... cool design. You should totally work on these for a comic, RPG, or just cool pictures.
You didn't, by any chance, have a copy of Dark Sun (AD&D supplement that came out early 90's). I don't know why, but they remind me of it. (Nothing specific, of course, just a general "feel.")
Failing that, the Miyans remind me a little of Ewoks.

Can I see the 3-d model of one of the sketch you made?
ShadowsRequiem
hmmm did you ever make your dream come true and actually work on designing a video game?

I cant find where my deviant art account is (dont remember name or password)... all my 3d models are there... everything else is lost in a computer crash... besides some hard copies I guess... I followed the "NRG Game character dev. " book for maya pretty closely... So it looks similar to the character in that book...
...and no... I am not making games ... I am in telecommunications... but I'm thinking about going back to school for some type of game dev. degree... but I now have a family... so its hard to break into the business.... I have a huge box of folders with game Ideas that I may just organize and send to some game companies anyway.
@ mordakai ... I have never heard of Dark sun... the inspiration for those creatures may have come from a lot of things though... It was a while ago.
@action jack ... I will try to find the model on deviant art...
