Got scammed, it was only 2k atleast, I guess it was my fault too

I started buying unid golds for my Wisdom title.

One guy is selling 7 for 10k and I said sure. We opened trade and all of them were unided and I bought them.

Then he says, 2 more for 2k. I say sure, open trade window and trade it. I check they are gold and accept.

Then he says, 1 more for 3k. I tell him I got no more money, but he keeps asking me for a trade.

Meanwhile I start iding my items, only to realize that the last two items were already id'd. I open the next time he asks me for a trade, and the 3k (now down to 2k) bow was id'd too. Since the same guy had sold me 7 unid'd items for good before, I never suspected this.

But just be aware - for people who buy unid'd gold.

Its my fault too for not properly seeing that they were unid'd.

Good thing it was just 2k.

I do not abide the do not trust anyone ever idea. Sure there are plenty of people you should never trust. Then there are that you can. Trust is always earned and never just taken for granted. I know who I can trust and that is no small thing.

Agreed... I've been scammed in the past and come across many players that have indeed attempted, but I try not to treat every trading player I meet as a potential scammer cos that wouldn't be fair, not everyone is like that -_-

probably the spamming is a bot... but i think a real person probably makes the actual trade to make sure the scammer doesn't get scammed

It's probably because I"m pretty closed to what I buy and where I do it... but I've never been scammed. All my trades have been of equivalent and fair exchange.

Now if you want to talk about how many times I got scammed while running Droks...

I'm so paranoid about scams, I double check things I sell to make sure they're right. This comes from selling someone bleached carapaces when they wanted bleached shells; an honest mistake on my part. He informed me of my mistake but wouldn't let me correct it. I always felt bad about that even though it was just a few carapaces.

Whoever you are, I'm sorry.

I've had them try that on me a few times, they often give you a few good items, and put a Ided gold armor inbetween them with the rune salvaged off, I just cancelt rade and ignore them right away.

I know it's a matter of personal preference, but why buy anyway?

7 for 10k is 1400 per gold. 3 high end chests costs 1800 and will, on average, produce 1 gold. So on that basis you save 400 per gold.

But, have you considered....

> Opening the chests yourself builds you the Treasure Hunter title too, so you can combine the 3% salvage per level with the 3% you get from Wisdom and actually make a meaningful benefit.

> While you are opening the chests you are gathering loot, so it pays for itself.

> Treasure hunting can be combined with elite capping and Sunspear/LB farming.

> People selling the unID'd items may hold back the runes in case they are a Sup Vigor. If you open the chests yourself, you'll get a Sup Vigor once in a while, which is 30k or 50 keys-worth. I've opened about 600 chests and got 3 already (which is slightly ahead of the odds I admit).

> Open the chests yourself and you don't get scammed!

I guess I am finding it hard to understand why someone would want a title so much as to just sit in town burning money and buying other people's items rather than enjoying playing the game.

But like I say it's personal preference, and no-one asked my opinion anyway.

Something I learnt very quickly from going to University...

...I apply what I learnt whilst playing Guild Wars.

Unfortunately university taught me to be cynical and untrusting of anyone else's motives. My family now mistake this for grumpyness...when actually I'm just continually trying to cover my back.

When checking the contents of the trade window, just because the first few items are ok doesn't mean the last ones will be.

Kinda the same thing happened to me. Bought seven unid's, but they had already had the mods salvaged off of them. Almost made my money back selling them to the merchant...

Good point above about the unID's on sale with all the mods stripped off. I get a whole load of perfect mods off the golds AND purples from the chests I open, and I share these with guildies and/or heroes and enjoy customising collector items to make new weapon-based builds.

Paying such money for 1400 for a gold which (due to the seller)

> Won't be a sup vigor rune
> Won't be req 8 or 9
> Will have the mods taken off
> Only the ugly skins

...means your chance of hitting the jackpot and getting that 30k-40k item is much reduced.

Plus by buying these items you are creating a market for bots... again, your choice, no-one asked my opinion etc.

Time = Money. You can buy 7 golds MUCH faster than you can run 7-21+ chests. That's the only reason I would buy unIDs.

PS: Mods really don't matter, people are only buying them for the title.

The beautiful thing about getting golds from chests instead of buying them for a set price each is that you can also work towards the treasure hunter title in the process.

You can't get treasure hunter points by buying and IDing golds.

Not to get too far off-topic, but here's a better explanation: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/26703

I don't know Anet's offcial stance on "scams", but here it EVE's:
Quote:
"A scam is the act of obtaining goods from other players through misinformation, confusion, pressure or by taking advantage of basic trust. Players enter into business dealings with others at their own risk and are strongly urged to exercise good judgment and common sense when trading. Scams that relate to issues such as password scams or account theft scams are more serious and will result in an immediate ban."
So, it sounds like as long as your not stealing someone's account, you can do whatever you want in EVE.

this isn't exactly true. all of the weapons I use for my characters and all of my heroes all came from buying unids while I worked on my wisdom title. these weapons include some great skins such as platinum wands, staves, celestial shields, storm bows, etc. I also got enough superior vigors to outfit 10 characters and their heroes with sup vigs. sure chances of getting these types of items are lowered since the items have already passed through someone else who probably tried to screen things out but you'll eventually get some good items.

K, I already said in the FIRST post that it was my fault too, but I am just warning others. I don't see why some people have a problem with that. Next time I see some scam on the horizon, I will just shut up. wtf.

And yeah, I do chest runs too (just started) but also buy unid'd golds as they are easy to get.

Wandering my own road.

Since this has gotten a little personal, and the scam is not particularly new, going to close this. Particularly since these kinds of threads of a history of turning sour, as did our 'official scam list' thread.

I suggest checking out Guild Wiki's segment on common scams if you're interested though.
