I am in a similar situation... but i dont buy services to get me through the game (maybe droks run because i dont see me do all prophecies missions again, especialy with a ritualist).

But playing yourself does help understanding a profession better. I am also working on a ritualist right now (she is 4 days old). And although i am also fed up doing the same quests and mission over and over again, i still enjoy PLAYING a new profession.

I plan to play all of Factions and Nightfall with her, as i want to have all skills and elites... but i also want to understand what is useful and what is less useful. And i test that by playing the game (i may skip some quest/subquests)...

They probably assume that this is the first time you are playing the campaign. I too would find it ridiculous and absurd to pay runners and other services if it were someone's first character. However, I would not presume someone to be doing just that unless they said so.

I have 5 prophecies characters and by the time I got to the desert with my last couple guys I said heck with it and bought the full desert tours. So yeah, there's nothing wrong with what your doing. Some people are just idiots.

I agree with what has been said above, that if it is your first time, it is usually better to play through w/o paying for runs. If it is your second, third, fourth, ect. time through, there is no problem in getting a runner for certain areas.

My first time through, the only time I had a run was from Ascalon City to Grendich Courthouse, and it was accidental, since I did not know that the person was running there. That was embarrassing when it came time to pay.

There's nothing bad with running. I have my new characters run every now and then to get somewhere else faster, since it becomes tedious playing through the same content again for the seventh or eight time.
I don't get run through everything, though, since I believe that if you have time enough to start a new character, then you should also play that new character, otherwise what's the point of making it. Learning a new class takes some gameplay time to get experienced at it, so doing at least missions by yourself is quite useful.

Well, there are a couple reasons for others aggravation.

1) No one wants to see (in PvE) someone who doesn't know how to play their profession, or worse, can only play builds. The whole part about pre-lvl20 is to learn the profession without access to all the skills and all the points (aka adapting!)

2) Cheapening the effort. X amount of people work through the level, character Y doesn't.

3) Reducing the pool for PuGs.

4) Practicality. What's the point? If you want to grind out a PvP character, just make one. If it's not for PvP and you're skipping the majority of PvE, what's the point? All that effort and the use of a slot for what? Farming? Elite missions? Bragging? The whole point about replay-ability is to replay the game, not pay someone to do it for you.

Those are the major concerns I see, and often agree with, but ultimately it comes down to one simple thing. You paid for the game. It's your account. You're entitled to play how you want. That doesn't make you immune to others' opinions though.

working out is my number 1 priority, im hoping to get a scholarship for playing football, im a starting full back at my school :P

and for you "Does-It-matter"

if you are reffering to me with your post then youre wrong, i know how to play my classes or i wouldnt have made them, im simply tired of beating the campaign over, and yes.. that is exactly why im making my new ritualist..... for farming/elitemissions.

beating a campaign more than twice in a row gets boring, i did night fall with 5 characters i was extremly bored doing the dang missions but i did it so i could have fun with my guild- mostly doa farming(and other elite missions)

i think if i wasn't in a guild that has the same likes as me(farming) id be long done with this game. cuz everyday i logon im either doing DoA or sometimes if im really bored ill do missions for people for free in the noobie areas

If everyone gets run, new players will think it's the way it's meant to be played. And then you get massacres. People in Ascalon begging for money for a run to Drok's, when in fact, they don't need money. Q&A used to be filled with 'what's ascension' quests. "i got a run to Toa but teh balthazar dude said i aren't ascensionned" ->proof

I don't see the point in PvE if you don't follow the storyline like it should be played.

I don't see anything wrong with running. I did it for armor and to get to places that were next but didn't have a mission to take you there. I still went back and explored what I missed. I even got ran around the desert so I could move on to where I need to go but still went back to see what all there was that I missed. I even run people in low lv missions where lets face it there is almost nobody to team with. Those runs contrary to the shady people out there I do for free don't see a point in someone paying me for something Thats so EZ for my lv. Now if this isn't your first char then go for the runs you know what needs to be done and where you need to go. I say people shouldn't judge people for playing they way they want aslong as it dosn't affect them or there play.

Hmmm...nobody really believes that person X has beaten the game Y times anymore. Even though that is a pretty damn common reality now. Personally, I see no reason to NOT get a run. I have personally obtained several runs, mostly because I tried multiple times and failed. Reasons to get a run are:

1) You are growing increasingly tired of the missions/quests
2) You tried and failed several times
3) You want something at point B before doing something at point A
4) You are semi-newb and want to check out the scenery (by dying then observing the runner)
5) You want something at point B, but are incapable of getting there
6) You just want to get through the storyline like a movie or a book

There are probably more, but I couldn't think of them right away.

As I said in my post, those are the majority of the community's points that crop up when this topic comes about from time to time. Don't get all hostile, I'm just passing on information.

I guess the begged question to that is, why play then?

Quote:
2) You tried and failed several times
Which contributes to the whole pool of players who get further and are incapable of playing their character. If you can't beat it, there is a reason. Learn your proffession, and then beat it.

If I don't know Calculus, and I cheat, what happens when I have to do math after college? (Please no one give the cop out of "math is real life, this is a game," I'm using a reference.)

Quote:
3) You want something at point B before doing something at point A
Typically the game designers design things to be obtainable in a certain order. Although it may be a little more expensive, using the armor you're gained in an orderly manner IS possible and it actually makes the missions a challenge.

Quote:
4) You are semi-newb and want to check out the scenery (by dying then observing the runner)
I can't really argue with this one much, but why can't you just see it as it comes? Why see The Desert before Manguuna? Or Southern Shiverpeaks before Lion's Arch? You WILL get there after all.

Quote:
5) You want something at point B, but are incapable of getting there
As with "I can't beat the mission!" There is a reason for this.

Small Tangent: As Yanman.be referenced, there is a guy with End Game armor, weapons, etc who has no idea how to play his profession. And he's not really going to learn it, because he's already asking for builds.

You learn your profession by not having all the skills (so you have to create your own sets, not "build x"), by having the max armor (so you actually see where you messed up, and weren't saved by your over-powered level), etc.

Quote:
6) You just want to get through the storyline like a movie or a book
Another one I can't really argue, but then this shouldn't be used by someone who's already beaten the game or plans to play it again, ever.

There are people who have nothing better to do with their time than sit around and give others grief. They'll always pick apart something they don't like, no matter what you do. Just let it roll off your back and know they're the ones with the problem, not you. Maybe some day they'll grow up, get a job, friends, or a hobby and have their own issues to occupy themselves with

First of all ignore Sh!t talk you get.

Theres a few points here :

If its not your first time thru the chapter getting run to everything, or wherever you want to get is not bad.

Seeing as how all 3 chapters differ in what kind of mobs you get and how they are set it might be good to go tru the chapter with a new class even if you have already done it with all the other 9,of course its not mandatory but it helps you learn that class better.

If you get runs thru the chapter you ARE lazy or you are bored with the chapter, you are trying to get to the good stuff and get the greens and caps because that is all you care about, that is partly to blame on Anet for making storyline that gets boring after 2 times.

For new players it is advised to play the game atleast once with a character, to get you used to how Guildwars works and just because its fun,if you get a run from say ascalon to Beacons then to Droks then to The fire islands you have just missed 3/4 of the game, you might not even know that theres a whole jungle full of spiders in the west,or a desert filled with scarabs or why you are fighting the final boss in Prophecies at all.

PS: What does being fat or not have to do with anything.... its not like you are physically running around with your character.... you click the mouse and use the keyboard fat or not its not hard or exhausting like sports....

I can understand both sides....I have 12 toons actively playing now......and sometimes, yeah redoing something for the upteenth time gets, old, but I do enjoy playing the game, just not grinding the same thing over and over and over again (lets say gate of madeness anyone??? with a sin???? ---not me, but you get the idea).
I also understand that running does sort of cheapen the game experience, but you know what....its you own game experience so OP---

do as you please and ignore everyone else. If it bothers you that people say the things you mentioned then maybe you should ponder why. and then keep playing!

Just ignore them usually, there are kids or act like kids than can't stand the fact that you have the money for runs, think you are lazy etc. Basically it's these guys who have a problem, not you. It's your game, your life do whatever you want with it, it doesn't concern them.
