what is this "-image" you speak of?

I am in virginia, a comcast customer, and I cannot connect, much less get the update to work.

Right-click your shortcut, then hit properties. Now, in the target box, add -image to the end, so it looks like this: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

Now click ok and launch the shortcut, give it a little bit of time to start the update, once the update finishes, Guild Wars will close, now go back into your properties and remove -image from the Target box, so it looks something like this: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

If you dont remove it afterwards, Guild Wars wont launch at all.

NOTE: The path I showed is the default GW path, so it should be the same as the one you see(unless you changed it upon installation).

Also, even after updating I still cannot play...I wanted hard mode, if finally came and I cant play it.......

I'm going to guess that everyone here is on euro servers, right? I am having the same problem with my account on euro servers. But I tried my brother's which is still US, and it logged in no problem at all.

Ok Folks listen up. First off Guild Wikis has a NEW web address and apparently nobody set up a NAT to help with the issue! lol. The new address is http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page and you can also access the page with the same url at Guildwars.com.

I live in Georgia, and 10 of my 14 officers all live within 15-30 minutes of me. We frequently LAN at my home. We are all have Comcast and are all having the same issues as everyone else with the error 58. I emailed Gaile, Support, and the GW Community. Point is they apparently are having a issue with the Comcast allowance. I believe that maybe Comcast has somehow been put on a exclusion list. This type of problem happend in Europe a while back and it took Anet a few days to figure it out.

Just hang in there and hopefully somebody will fix the problem.

....its the beauty of monopoly, like the rset of you i am one of comcasts hostages and cannot connect to a number of sites. A shame the crazed gunmen of the US dont find their way into boardrooms as opposed to killing the innocent.
Hopefully Verizon will offer fiber in the future(DSL noty) and those in the mid-atlantic will have at least one other option. Deregulation ftl

For some reason, I cant connect to the unofficial wiki, and none of the sites listed previously. This is definantly something going on with comcast, not anet. If it was something with anet, I would be able to connect to the old wiki, and all the sites previously listed.

As for the update, I thought it was rather small.....went faster then the the DoA update. :P

Though, if you've NEVER used -image before, theres a good chance you never downloaded everything. Guild Wars downloads things when it needs them, so if you never visited some of the zones, or maybe even some towns, than Guild Wars, using -image, is downloading all of that info.

For example, I dont own Factions, but if I get on my buddies account(who owns factions), I dont have to download anything because I have used -image before. So basically, my account, which is prophecies and nightfall, yet I have all the factions content thanks to -image.(though its only accessible if I'm on an account with access to it).

I did the "-Image" tag on my GW.EXE Icon, and went to go eat while it did it's thing {32,000+ Files} O-0

When I was done and came back and fired up GW's to check to see if I could get online....Viola'! Success!!!

Did the "jump-Start" of the downloading process help at all? I don't think so. I think it was just a coincidence, because at the same time I got online again, I checked the original Wiki page. I can now access that too.

So anyways.....I'M BACK!

Alas, no change.

When I attempt to access characters not in Kaineng Centre, Sunspear Refuge or Lion's Arch -- it will stall at the loading screen, stating it is "connecting". After an age, it will throw up the 005 error message. Trying to exit out of this before the message will cause the PC to freeze, and me to grow increasingly irritable.

Now if I am IN Sunspear for example, I will get the same thing happen if I attempt to map or leave via a portal.

I'm on Euro server in Australia. I've tried accessing UK support page - but it's behaving very badly and so I've sent a call for help to the US support page.

*wistfully imagines going toe-to-pincer with Uber-devourer*

OK, for those of you who are not victims of your ISP or regional network backbone issues, peruse this article from Guild Wars Support for possible solutions.

Ok, got connection again. The solution was in the spanish support page. The problem was av NOD32.

Still getting error 005s, as is another guildie who also lives in Australia. Am guessing our routers/pcs/etc didn't simulatenously nose-dive.

The only thing I can suggest then is to be thorough {Not that you haven't been} in ruling out things. That will help you zero in on the actual problem bit-by-bit. It's tedious I know, but do the standard stuff, being very rigid and lockstep in how you do it so you can be 100% sure what you have ruled out is not the cause.

I'm sure you are familiar with all the regular stuff, i.e. shutting down and then cold booting, powering off and resetting both Router and Modem {My surfboard has a software reset also} Once you do that, go into "Command" and clear your I.P. and all that, then use properties to look at your connection and "Repair" it. Use "Diagnose connection problems" to run a scan and possibly identify something wonky with it. After that look at your firewall and make sure it has an exception for GW's. If it does, unselect it, hit apply and reselect it and hit apply again and exit. Restart after that.

That's about all I know to suggest....armed with that, you can be sure you have done just about everything that could be wrong on your end before dealing with Anet or your ISP.

I know I am not providing a "Solution" to your problem, but I hope my post at least triggers you to think about or do something you haven't done yet that will be THE SOLUTION and you are back online with us soon.

Also having trouble connecting. It's only happened 4 or 5 times so far (I'll change district, then it'll get to Connecting... 100% and just... not get off the connecting screen), and it's only started happening since the recent updates.

No big deal yet, but annoying.

Indeed, no solution as such - but a reminder to be thorough in my checking procedure (it DID get me to go over what I had done )

I've opened the respective ports, defragged my poor old Gw.dat (having to use the Contig.exe). All steps now carried out. I have had no issue in approximately 20 months of playing, and now multiple players (who similarly have not had problems) are effectively locked out.

It allowed me to enter an area with one of my characters, and I began grinning foolishly, thinking "Ahh, they've begun the mending of the bugs". Later that evening (in a peak-playing time) I could not get into a single player, despite their location.

I feel okay, knowing I've discounted anything on my end. My only source of irritation (well, apart from checking out this whole Vanquishing thing) is the complete lack of acknowledgement that there may be local issues with the update. I know, I know - it's the weekend -- but a one-liner somewhere would tide me over.
