How do people target minipets?

I see quite a few screenshots showing how people target untargetable stuff like water buffaloes in cantha and mini pets. How do they do that?

Don't know about mini pets, but anything with a name in green .... just click on it and click on an attack skill and the name will turn red and it becomes hostile.

I think its a bug. For a short duration, I was able to target my mini pig. This only happened once, and lasted about a minute or two.

I think it's about the issue of levelling the minipets. Since people will have second birthday gifts soon, there will have to be a way of diferentiating between the minis. Maybe anet was playing behind the scenes.

one of the last times i was in DoA there was a dude that kept changing his minis... everytime i hovered my mouse over his minis at least over three i saw a level thingy and i could target them...
