Hard Mode: What works?
ArKaiN
Hard Mode is upon us, and of course, the first thing I did was checking every farming spot I know to see what still works. Why? First of all, challenge. Its like everywhere is UW. Second, there's this:

Mostly, yes. Boss farming is a pain in the ass, and you sometimes get to a good farming spot only to find out one of the foes has a different skill than you're used to, resulting in multiple deaths. But there are exceptions.
55 farming works. And people, it works BETTER than in normal mode. Why? Because foes in HM attack faster. Sometimes MUCH faster. That means SS and SoJ do a real number on them. Try hydras. Try griphons outside Camp Rankor. Try dead sword farming. Its amazing.
130 also works really well, except foes have more life than normal, so it's not as effective, but you still get more golds and purples per time spent. Not to mention HM chests - I'm yet to get a grape from those.
Anyone else got HM news for us?
Selor
I've tried it, it seems without a party your drop rates dramatically decrease.
EDIT: I forgot to add that it is still higher than in normal mode, don't get me wrong.

solo ain't that effective (in loot) anymore... they kiled solo farming in HM :P (e/a in gloom works though)

Just did a Kappa and Dragon Root run. One gold drop and ~200gp...total. Out of ~25 mobs, only three drops. BUT...the xp was outstanding. Looks like this will be a way to get the xp needed for Skill Hunter.

What about us Warriors? Anybody try out any builds with Warriors in hard mode?
milan
Odd thing. Seems that any characters (that are level 20) cannot access hard mode in campaigns that were completed by other characters before your current character was created.
i.e. Completed factions several months ago and created a character 2 months ago that now has no access to Canthan Hard mode. I have not done the final mission with any character since creating the new one.
The character has access to Elonan and Tyrian Hard mode.

Well, just tried to solo Sunqua Vale (in HM) with Beast Master build, worked great and got few decent drops, every mob dropped something
So I don't think it affected to Hard Mode?

Thats great i just paid 10k for stuff for a/e and soloing sucks now lol

Well, I've been traveling around tyria on my 55, SS seems to be the only thing that works well, although normal mode SoJ works wonders, it needs 3-4 casts to take down relatively simple mobs, SS on the other hand you can keep throwing out.
In other news I have a feeling mino bots are coming back in normal mode, since they DO NOT scatter anymore.

Main purpose of mino farming was for the whites... I seriously doubt many companies will set up a ton of bots to farm them unless something serious changes, and on hard mode a 55 monk can't kill HM minos... (Blame heal-sig)

You'll just have to change your 55 build so it can kill minos....interrupts ftw

Well sorta, if you want some fun Hard Mode, try anywhere in Desolation, with wurms.
Its almost as easy, your team never dies, and you get get ALOT more loot, its also the perfect place to farm your Sunspear titles, because its so easy in Desolation on hard mode.
So it really don't take that much more time in hard mode in Desolation, with worms, from my experience.

Thanks to hard mode I found a spot that can... hopefully get me a max Colossal Scimitar soon.

well, i've tried some spots (full team of 4), so here is my experience:
Sunqua vale - 1h in hard mode netted me 3k and 1 gold item
Plains of Jahrin - around hour and a half to wipe everything, 2 lockpicks, 6 gold items (excluding chests) and around 5k in loot
Cliffs of Dohjok - hour and a half, 4 gold, 6k in loot
Alkai Pan - tried both solo and with full team. Full team was quicker and netted a LOT more loot (2k in loot afer soloing, got no golds, no rare materials)
With full team (8) i got 1 ruby, 3 fangs, 1 claw, 5 golds and 3k in loot
Myrror of lyss - got owned with full team (8) very quickly so i gave up
Conclusion: i'll keep wipeing areas with FULL team, solo is defintly not worth it

Can someone post their 55 SS necro build please

Anybody know of any hard mode farming spots in Tyria? Preferably not 55 monk?

One problem:
Most people doing HM are doing the missions. It's unlikely to find people in towns saying they want to go off and do some HM killing.
...and even with the update today buffing henchies' armor and damage for HM, they STILL seem to crumble away before the enemies. I vanquished Griffon's Mouth, but at the end we were at 60DP and died after every 2 or so Ettins killed.

Is it getting all you henchies/heros to die in a far away area?
manitoba1073
you dont need to take henchies with you. unless all you want is whites and gp drops. and there is literrally tons of spots and builds that can be used. pretty much look for farming builds here and u'll find one that works.
i have no problem with my 55 in most places farming in HM.

nahpui quarter HM - 55 n/mo either SS (ss, insidious, AtB) or SV - 6 gold celestial drops in an hour, particularly longbows, 4 dyes 3 non-elite scrolls 2 lockpicks. better drops and faster killing. I cba explain how to avoid nightmare weapon but it's not hard although it will kill u instantly if u get hit (-63). I was getting lots of junk as well - it was like old times, but better.
lvl 24 inferno imps - vig spirit triple chop w/mo - killed 20 and didn't see any sign of the mass charcoal drops I was hoping for (the ones near fishermans, not on the toa->desert run)
dragon moss south of anjekas - SoJ SoA monk - with the exception of 1 bad gold, just crap, and not even much crap. 1 blue per run would be common.
battle of turai's procession - splinter barrage rt/r - gave me the impression farming code is back in force. Had 8 golds in 1 run, mostly armours, a dry run, 6 golds in another run, and then 3 dry runs. 300x71+850 xp per run though

Thats because 55 benefits from the faster attacks. Its the other builds that will have problems.

I have still been using my vengefull Rit farming wardens. Each run stills makes me 2k and now I get more purples and 1 gold almost each run. :-) Just for fun I tried the build in hard mode NOT FUN

No i was just saying i had no probs with my 55. But alot of the other builds still do work,.
the ele sliver build for example is still viable the war solo builds still are viable. nearly all the old builds are still good to go. which is where i said find a build in here and give it a whirl.

Loot Changes
Adjusted the following items so that they are now exempt from loot scaling:
Skill Tomes
Scrolls
Dye
Rare materials, such as Ectoplasm
Gemstones from the Domain of Anguish
All other rare (gold) items
All unique (green) items
Special event items This means, when you flag henchies back for a green farm, you will get much better chances than if they were there. Also, dead sword solo farming, solo UW farming, and any other form of Rare item drop solos still are very effective and are actually MORE effective in Hard Mode!

It seems almost all HM farming builds around here are 55 Monk (don't have one and I am still waiting for the day they go extinct) and for Warriors (have a wammo, though ATM I'm focusing on my ranger doing most of the HM experience).
ArKaiN
Yep, prot spirit is where the money's at in HM. Foes attack much faster.

Switch to higher life when dealing with the ritualist birds, that's how I did it back in the day pre-HM.

Mmm...how are you 55 then? Would like some more help on not dying from Vengeful...anyone?

Is it now that Ectos still drop at the same rate before the update?

I've been having quite a bit of luck vs melee enemies in HM with a Me/E.
Vs. Melee/Rangers:
Max out Domination (use runes and mask)
Max out Water magic
Spread the rest into Illusion (more) and Fast Casting (less).
Use a Wand and Focus that recharges your Water magic faster. Alternatively, use a Water staff with faster rechange AND +20% Enchantment length.
Use a full set of Enchanter's armor. Since you're not getting hurt with this build, a superior Fast Casting and Illusion rune are helpful as well.
Defensive:
Use Mist Form (Elite) + Arcane Echo to keep from ever being ever hit. (Don't attack!)
Offensive:
Empathy, Conjure Phantasms, Illusion of Pain, Shatter Delusions.
The last skill is up to you, although I recommend Glyph of Lesser Energy for energy management.
This works best in earlier areas where many enemy groups are ONLY ranged or melee.
Strategy: The most important thing to do is maintain Mist Form. Use Arcane Echo so that you'll always have it ready when the last one is about to run out. Pick your target, and hit him with Empathy, Conjure Phantasm and Illusion of Pain in that order, then Shatter Delusions when IoP is about to run out of juice. Maxed out Empathy does MASSIVE damage to enemies in Hard Mode, as they attack faster. In many areas you'll only need to run through those 4 skills once to kill the enemy. Be sure to maintain Empathy on your target at all times, and that you never Shatter it.
I cleared out all of the scorpions in Ascalon HM with this build, and it works well vs Minotaurs, Ettins, etc. The only danger with this build is aggroing groups so big that you eventually run out of enegy trying to maintain Mist Form. This only happens when you aggro groups of over 10 though.

The hulking stone elementals in old ascalon are pretty easy to farm with the vengeful build. Good exp and the drops ain't that bad. Got problems with the 2 bosses though.
Btw, can elona minos be done by a warrior?
