Computer Crashing

I've never had this problem before until the new patch that had hard mode in it. It was working fine, and I logged off and downloaded the patch. I played for about an hour but there was a heavy amount of lag, even with my 2G of RAM, which I have never had before. When I minimized guild wars to check on a guru thread, my computer locked up and restarted itself. When it finished rebooting, I opened Guild Wars and started playing again, and the lag hit. While I was playing, my computer locked up again, and rebooted. When I opened Guild Wars again it said: "Repairing Data Archive" and took about 15 minutes to do that. Then it said I had a patch to download which consisted of about 5,000 files...the usual amount when you first install the game. When Guild Wars actually opened, all of my preferences had been reset. I logged in and tried to play, but after I logged onto a character and I hit the loading screen, I had 16,000 files to download. Is there any reason why Guild Wars may have reinstalled itself for no reason? I'm thinking that I need a new graphics card because my processor and RAM shouls easily meet the standards. By the way, I recently re-isntalled Windows and before the latest patch I have never had any problems such as this before. If you have any ideas or have had some of the same problems please post.

Edit: I forgot to add that while installing the 16,000 files, my computer rebooted about 3 times. I have just finished installing those files and it seems to be working, but I still have many files to load everywhere I go.

Edit: I also recently uninstalled a Trial Edition of World of Warcraft.

Here's what Guild Wars Support has to say about it.

And below are some specific that I want to outline:

First: Defrag your GW.DAT. Guild Wars ran a Repair Data Archive to fix a missing or corrupt file. All that file activity probably calls for some defragmentation.

Quote:
Repairing Archive indicates that the Guild Wars game files have become corrupt and must be repaired. The process may take a while, but the game will automatically repair itself. If you have only seen this message once then it is nothing to worry about. Simply let the repair process finish and you will be able to play again.

However, if you are repeatedly receiving this message, you can take steps to prevent future problems. The best method is to follow the instructions in this article to delete and re-create the Gw.dat file. If the problem returns after following those steps, you may have a fault in your hard drive or RAM.

Running a -image is advised before investing time in any GW.DAT maintenance.

Secondly: ensure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware. Sometimes <graphic drivers especially> driver can become corrupt or be improperly installed/partially uninstalled so you may need to use a driver cleaning utility but usually just reverting back to Windows Default Drivers and rebooting before installing new drivers works just fine.

Thirdly: Is your PC overheating and/or overclocked? If so, set everything back to normal in the BIOS or driver settings. Also, consider underclocking for trouble-shooting purposes. Underclocking memory speed, AGP Speed down to 4X, Fast Writes Off, etc...

Also, clean out the entire inside of your system case, special care and attention around cooling fans. Also, confirm that all fans are working. Evil Dust Bunnies could also be the cause of any new heat related issues.

Lastly: Are you mal-ware free? Peace of mind requires you to be sure otherwise you could be chasing your tail.
