Scammer Owned

I was in Kamadan today selling a Monk Tome, and someone bought it off me for 5k. He then asked for his cash back because it wasn't an elite tome, when I stated in my description it only applied to regular skills. He said he would use Paint to edit the screenshots to make it look like I said elite. I then told him that in doing so he would be breaking the rules by harassing me, which could be reported to ANet. He got scared, appologised and begged me not to report him, before offering me 5k (which I didn't accept). He then hastily logged off.

Next time someone tries to threaten you, try talking to them. It goes a long way.

Scary thing is I have known of one person being banned due to someone submitting edited screenshots. The banning was a big deal at the time and was later revoked.

If something like that happens, just screen shot his text about what he's going to do as well. If something were to happen, send your screenshot in of his text

I like to think the ANet staff can tell when a screenshot has been altered.

Very nice -- I have my own story as well. (actually a friend of mine did this and not me but I wish I'd thought of it). A scammer was trying to sell a collector item (I believe it was margonite masks..??) at an unreasonable price. He was selling at something like 2k per mask. So my friend IMed him in game and asked if that's the going rate and the scammer responded that of course it is. So my friend IMed back that he'd sell the scammer 200 of his masks (which is as many as he had at the time) for 1k each (half the price -- a great deal). The scammer never responded and shut up in that dist. (-:

5k for a tome? Wahahhaha! There are NO WAY you can sell a tome in more than 1k, because 1k is actually the price skill NPC cost per skill or signet of capture, AND you need have the skill already unlocked in your account! So, a tome is nearly worthless, because with 1k (at skill NPC) you can even unlock it at the same time!

^Some people will pay a premium for them to save the effort of getting their character far enough in the game to get it normally

Funny, I thought a past update made it so you could buy all unlocked skills at any point in the game. Am I wrong?

only cause they were mesmer tomes, I never got into the mesmer crazy, ergo never unlocked any skills

He said it was in Kamadan. The skill trainer there is a total nub and is missing a lot of stuff regardless of its unlocked status on your account. :P Some people want certain skills before getting to the mainland.

OP: LOL, maybe that person will think long and hard before thinking about threatening to pull something like that again.

As for tomb prices, 1K has got to be the max. But I'd guess they'd sell better at 750 - 800g. I saw someone in Kamadan trying to sell a elite tomb for 75K last night. I'm guessing they were trying to capitalize on the newness of the thing and the lack of knowledge of other players.

Do the tomes require a skill point to use?

I doubt they would need to stare at the screenshot for too long to tell its been faked. Just pull up the activity logs of the people involved, which players can't fake as we don't have access to them.

For everyone's information, I once had a talk with a nice guy at customer support, and bilateralrope is right.

The CS guy said that while sending screenshots is nice, they don't go by them anyway. What they really need in a report is the name of the offender and the exact time and zone of the offense.

They have records of every word of chat. OMG! ^_^

So, don't try to fake screenshots. It won't work for one second.
