Hard Mode Access

After reading guildwiki and the official site, it seems to say that once a campaign has been beaten with a character, all level 20 characters on that account will have access to Hard Mode in that campaign.

I have beaten Prophecies and Factions with my mesmer and necromancer, and Nightfall with my paragon. However, only my paragon has access to HM in Nightfall . . . does it matter that my paragon was created after these other two characters? Do I need to beat Nightfall with my mesmer and necro to access HM in that campaign? I know what the access rule seems to say, but for some reason I can't get HM with either of these characters.

Did you beat EVERY mission, rather then just the ones you get when taking the ranger or necro path?

No, I think I have one or two more, then I will have completed all of them. This makes a difference? So I can play HM on my paragon because I beat NF, but can't play HM with other chars there until I beat all the missions on my paragon?

It sounds like your paragon having access to Hard Mode is a bug. Once you have beaten the final mission of a campaign, and then log in on that character (if you beat it before the hard mode update), then any lvl 20 character should have access to hard mode for that continent.

I don't think you need to beat EVERY mission to access hard mode. Didn't the notes say that just finishing the final mission of the campaign will qualify you?

Have you logged in under your Paragon since the update? That might be the problem. Just login as your paragon and access hard mode in NF. Then switch to another character and then your other characters should be able to get NF hard mode.

Thanks for the advice, I never did try and login first as my paragon then the other chars. Ill try again later today. And yes, the official site does say you simply have to beat the final mission in the campaign.

Just for kicks and giggles log on into Nightfall again with another Character that is level 20. I could not get HM in Prophesies, but I never logged in with a Character that beat it. If you logged in with someone who has not finished the game 1st then you will not be able to access hardmode. If you finished playing for the day right after logging in with your Paragon then it “Now” should be unlocked for all characters, so try it with someone else now.

Not sure if this is the problem or not, but have your Necro and Mesmer Ascended in Nightfall yet, that is, do they ahve sunspear sanctuary? That could be it... just a thought...

yea ive noticed this happened to me too. it happens because its your newest character that has completed nightfall. for example i have completed nightfall on my paragon but cant do it in hard mode on my warrior or ranger which were created before my paragon (they both have sunspear sanctuary as well btw). i can however play hardmode on my lvl 20 ele that i created after my paragon.

I had this as well, this is how to solve the problem:

1: Log in on the character you completed the specific continent with.

2: Get this character to the continent you want to play hardmode in.

3: Click on hardmode, in that continent, with that character.

4: Change character / to the one you want to play hardmode on. Transfer it to the wanted continent. It should now be available.
