Am I the only one who finds nearly all the Primeval and Ancient Armor graphics complete eyesores?
Jesus, effin, banana, christ. You have a mummy, a necro with live bats randomly duct-taped to the armor, and an assassin which has to walk sideways through doors due to having two feet long spikes sticking out everywhere. And the last one - it looks like she lost a fight with a windmill!
My take:
Prophecies armor: Mostly good-looking, with the exception of the spandex-suit-with-fur Ranger Frostbound armor. Also some armors had low-res textures, like all the male ranger armors (please fix that, Anet!).
Factions armor: Pretty much all of it is good, except the Luxon jellyfish-helmet simply wasn't a good idea. It looks like the owner is wearing a toadstool on his head. The Kurzick squirrel-helmet is silly too, but not as.
Nightfall armor: The base/beginner armors are good, but it gets progressively worse from there, due to the concept that "better = spikier". With the exception of the Dervish and Warrior armors all the top armors are completely ridiculous. Same goes for the Hero armors - why the heck would I want to spend time and effort to upgrade their perfectly reasonable armors into some gaudy outfit which looks like it's a stage costume from "Priscilla: Queen of the desert"?
Or maybe it's just me? Maybe people want live bats duct-taped to their armors?
Primeval & Ancient armor: Fugly?

It is just you in some cases and not in others.
Even I agree that the ancient Assassin armour is obscene.... but I actually like quite a lot of the other Ancient and Primeval armour.
The Ritualist "mummy" look is fairly cool (and perhaps appropriate), the Necromancer Primeval makes them look like a lionfish... but I actually like that (and the face scars for Primeval are the best of the lot). The ranger armour is cool enough on both counts. I could go on like this for most of them.
Oddly enough, the ones I'm not so fond of now are the Warrior and Dervish Primeval.... not because I don't like the way they look intrinsically... but they have become sickeningly clichéd. Everyone and their dog seems to have those kits... which is why I'm trying to think of an alternative set to get for my Dervish when I get him levelled up and kitted out.
As for my Warrior.... I'm planning on getting her Ancient gear.... but if I decide to give her a set of Primeval too, I'll be sure to dye it bright magenta in theme with my guild colours.... and in direct opposition to standard colour trends for such things.
Another one that annoys me is that Elementalist armour that all the female elementalists wear. I don't even remember which one it is.... but it makes them all look like slutwh0res...

Isn't this kind of late..? Threads committed to bashing NF armors came at the most a month after NF was released.. what is this doing here?
A basic concept is, out with the old and in with the new, even if it indeed is "fugly." And ugly is sufficient.. we don't need the unnecessary F.

Nope.. I don't see any spikes at all.

Actually i rather like the ancient Assassin armor its got style and it 'feels' like assassin wear, its sharp deadly and yet delicate. The others are ok, Warrior, Rit, Dervish (although all the Dervish armors so far are more or less very similar) etc.
I love the Primeval Necro and Ele Armor too, lol infact other than the Necro Ancient armour i like all the armor u mentioned.
I think ANet does reasonable well with there armor designs although the Paragon and Dervish ones are very limited atm and most of which look extremly similar but with EoTN im sure this will change. The only armor theve added in i dislike strangly enough is the new phrophecies add ins, and although its great Anet finally added them in there are kinda a let down, the Knights armour 1.5k looks much better than the 15k version. And the 15k Gladiators Helm is ok but id still rather stick to an Ascalon helm purely for looks.

I also dislike the vast majority of Nightfall's armors. A few of the Vabbian ones are pretty good though, my favorite being Paragon. You have to see those in-game though, screenshots don't do them justice. They interact very prettily with the lighting.

But I agree that the primeval one is a good example of the "ridiculously spiky = teh leet" theory of design.
Other than that I get the impression the conclusion of this will be that "Yeah, they're fugly - except mine".
EDIT: I'm also somewhat disturbed that people apparently react more strongly to "slutty" ele armors than to eyesores like:

That and my elementalist is male.
Wouldn't change that for an instant.
I like to keep balance between my male and female characters.
Assassin, Elementalist, Dervish = Male
Necromancer, Monk, Ritualist, Warrior = Female
I don't have PvE Mesmers, Rangers nor Paragons yet... but I'm planning male Mesmer and Paragon (so SO gay), female Ranger.... to match my PvP Storage Characters (which I DO have).
I've totally lost the plot here.
Yeah.... I have no general problems with Nightfall Ascended armour..... other than the fact that most Vabbian armour looks ridiculous (apart from Assassin). Just as well, given the cost.
hé, nothing against 15k sunspear for female ele's, can I help it everyone stole my look ?
(joke ;p)
But I do agree most primeval looks awefull: ele, ranger and monk for instance. But then again, everyone entitled to their own opinions ^^
And for the record, my fav female armor still is 15k Luxon ^^

IMO most professions got some nice armor in NF.
I love and wear : ancient female warrior, elite sunspear female monk, ancient female dervish.
I plan on getting ancient female rit, ancien female Ranger (the scarabs are awesome), vabbian female sin and vabbian female mesmer, when rubies stop being insanely expensive.
For my female NF necro I had to stop by kaineng center to shop, but all in all NF armor are fine, offering something new and special to all pre-NF classes.

Heh... that kinda reminds me.... Assassin Ancient might be bad... but it has nothing on Assassin Fissure of Woe armour for looking truly ridiculous. Same goes for Elementalist Fissure of Woe. They both look like someone got tangled up in a fence.

I like: Proph armor, Nightfall armor
I don't like: Factions armor
(Few exceptions though)
I hate almost all warrior armor though, except for Kurzick.
Reminds me of batman

As long as people are talking about armors...if you go to gofugyourself.typepad.com and scroll down to the picture of the Pussycat Dolls (it's the third from the top right now), the second Pussycat Doll from the left is wearing Mesmer Enchanter's Armor...the cut, the texture, and the body filling it out are almost exactly the same.
Made me smile when I saw it.
