I think this is, in general, something that all three chapters of GW have highlighted - little pockets of human thriving in a world that isn't very kind. But when you compare the three, Prophecies where you have one last major outpost of civilization in Lion's Arch and a kind of broken culture, Factions where you are bogged down in the muck of Kaineng City or else in a fantastical outland, and Nightfall, where the desert reaches everywhere and civilization still manages to overcome...I think that Nightfall is actually, in terms of man-against-nature and progress-of-cilvilization, the major success story. |
