I was looking at the new dungeon screen in gwen and noticed they look a LOT like the catacombs in green ascalon. Could be a coinsedence, but look for yourself:

Coinsedence or not?

I'm not really seeing the resemblance. Unless you just mean they're made of stone and have pillars/buttresses.....

The first picture looks more like Echovald Forest to me. But to be honest, what variety is there in catacombs anyway?

That's what I was thinking too. Like one of those Kurzick cathedrals.

Uhh, a dungeon is a dungeon, they'll all look alike eventually. I don't find very much resemblance either though.

The catacombs were my favourite area in Pre-Sear. I especially liked the underground waterfalls and that room with all the candles. I always wondered where the catacombs 'went' in Post-Sear.

I would have thought that - despite everything that happened above ground - the catacombs would have survived more or less intact and unchanged. They're only full of undead and spiders anyway.

For while I thought that their disappearance would be due to the entrance in Sardelac being blocked off....but there were two other entrances too. So where are my catacombs??

Bring back the catacombs A-Net.

Well you provided a screen of the catacombs and two screens of the dungeons, they don't look alike to me. If you're saying a different part of the catacombs looks like the dungeons, then maybe you should've posted a screen of that instead.

The pre searing catacombs were tough but the game was slower.

i wouldnt be surprised if the catacombs reopened for GWEN access. Its the only real cave system in ascalon we know of

I thought that it had already been confirmed that the Catacombs would be re-opened in GW:EN.

Yes, it has, and I am still wondering why the first 10 posters of this thread don't know.

What do you mean by "re-opened"? Were they ever opened at one time or another?

Wow... I gave these screenshots a passing glance when they were first released, but upon looking at them again I realize something...

My Necro girl, Ukiyo, is never going to see the light of day ever again.

they look nothing alike, and this is coming from an artist.

you are only seeing similarities because you want to, so its influencing you

being underground and having pillars are the only similarities

Pre-Searing Catacombs = best dungeon in GW ever. If GW:EN's dungeons were to be designed like that, they'd be ownage.

it stands to reason that something will come out of the Catacombs. When that burning stuff fell from the sky, peeps must have run for the underground areas, right. Entrances can be blocked the were only the
Abbey, Green hills by Barridens and Wizards Folley all of which are gone now.

Look at all those post apocalpyse movies and stuff, years later see what comes out of the ground, should be interesting most definately

I think i remember reading that the Catacombs cover all of tyria and that with GWEN earthquakes open up entrances to them.

The only thing earthquake related is well earthquakes will happen and people will be able to go under tyria. So dont assume stuff people. and dont read the GWW's catacomb article its all bullcrap anyways.

1. Click "M" while playing Guild Wars
2. Move the little hand thing around till you get to the burnt piece of poo we call Ascalon and over where catacombs was at Sardelac.
3.Look at it
4. Keep looking till you notice it looks a little blue, like water! I think the catacombs is full of water or some blue substance, or im just on drugs.

Yeah, try the last

THey do look a like to me, and they can look like the Echovald Forest because let's face it, the Catacombs are a vast network of Underground Tunnels the Dredge and other beings have created. There is quiet possibly a chance that someone decided to take that from which was below, and apply to that which is above.

You know, that is how we get things the way they are and the places that they are. The Greeks/Roman's seen the Pyramids of Egypt, and they decided they wanted both that and sphinx's of their own. So why couldn't a underground race created this, then a person who visted the underground bring up that art work??

Yes, all those screen shots are from catatombs, if you have gone through the whole catatombs you will notice it is no smaller than sorrow furnace and beautiful. And still carry the original GW's extreme diversity on terrain and environment design. Prophecies just have so much to offer that devs had to pack them so tight that it look weird.

Those screen shots are from GWEN, not the catacombs. There is no part of the pre-searing catacombs that look like that. So if they are connected it's entirely new.

Is not a coincidence, is 100% intended. A big part of GW:EN will be Tyria catacombs, that was officially announced. I won't be surprised at all if we see exactly the same pre-sear dungeon again, obviously with high level undeads or whatever.
