OK, I loved the Wintersday event right up till wintersday. Much better than Halloween I thought.

So, at 1800 CET the 30th of december I log on to guildwars to see if there's any event going on. There's not. Nothing's started yet.

I'm off to a new years party.

At 1200 CET on january the 1st I log on to guildwars to see if there's any event going on. There's not. It's over.

WTF?

Was the intention that the hats should be reserved for people sitting at home playing on-line games on the night of new years eve? Surely hats could've been handed out for at least a full day?

I hope the duration of the next event is a bit longer; the way this one turned out having a hat pretty much signals "I have no life or I'm under 16 years old".

lol its true, they should have done it new years day i think. I wasn't planning on going out, but my bf wanted to go round to a colleagues house. Luckily, we were going at 9pm gmt, and the event was at 8pm, so I managed to get both types of hat. But yes, I definately agree it should have lasted longer. Though to be honest, other than the hat/horns you didn't miss much. It wasn't even very interactive. The weapons/collectors items/quests were certainly the best of this event. The actual event was more or less "run to one half,t hen stand around til the fireworks finish".

Hats were being handed out as early as noon my time. How many New Years parties start at noon?

You know, the last day of the year is the 31st...and not the 30th?

They came out at the times too you specified, so they would've been there.

Did you actually go to Lion's Arch? + Try the 'last' day of the year, and not the 30th.

All those NPC's running around for the last week doing the count down to wintersday gave it away for me that something would happen on the 31st.

It's just like halloween, you either look ingame and read what the npcs are saying or you miss out.

theres no excuse for missing it except being too lazy to ask or look around yourself.

the event lasted 12 hours as far as i know (i'm in europe, playing on the american server) i went to bed around 1:00AM EST (7:00AM my time)

as far as not getting a hat because you're not at the computer when it happens, well. bad excuse too. doesn't take more than a minute to log in and warp to lions arch, you can spare a minute on new years eve right?

everyone who was AFK, as long as they were standing by grenth or dwyanna, got a hat (circle of candy canes or byt carolers of grenth)

You cannot be f**king serious? It started way before New Year celebrations did (see quote below) and heck you could have logged on you character on the morning of the 31st and left your PC on like most people did. 12 hours time span is too short? You must be kidding me. You are crying over a worthless piece of headgear that is of no importance and of absolutely no relevance. Looks to me that you are either younger than 16 or you have no life. Guessing form your post it's both. Saddest thread ever what a waste of time and energy.

A tiny search on this forums, or just a glance at the new topics, would have tipped you off what would happen and where and how late, pure lack of interest that you didn't research it or spent 1 minute of your life to just, ask. Instead you made a post here, clearly showing your disproval of how it went.

If you did a little research, you would have wasted 1 minute, not 2 for making this post Oh, and you would have had your santa hat of course..

If you just stood there and let your character dance, like I did, and lots of others I assume, you would have gotten one for sure. But you could only known this of course, if you checked the forums or asked around.

Happy new year though,

I really couldn't care less that I didn't get the hat - I had a far better time away from my computer!

That was a pretty smartass remark

Having a hat means I have no life or im under 16 :/ (I got one in the morning, yeah realy I ate some oatmeal and came down and got a hat, then got dressed for the famliy meeting thingy )

Couldn't get a hat, so instead of admitting your own fault, you try to poke/stab the ones who did indeed get a hat/antlers?

Like a lot of replies above said before, you could have just let your pc on, while being in LA of course.

When I was in at 1800 Central European Time on the euro server, Lions Arch, district 1, there was not a single person with wintersday hat around. Noone had heard what was going to happen, although there were some guys trying to get something to happen by /kneel and /dance before santas hat by the christmas tree.

When I asked in LA today the earliest anyone said they'd got a hat was 1900 GMT (which is 2000 CET).

So don't give me that it started at noon in the day. Possibly for you in the US.

Apparently to partake in this event, if one have a life & is above 16 years of age, one was supposed to leave the avatar logged in over night Lions Arch, next to the carolers of Grenth or the xmas tree, and the only way to find that out was apparently by searching the speculations by people who didn't know either here on GWG.

And you guys tell me you're not disappointed by the finale to this event?

Come on, this was farking weak.

The event should've been new years DAY, not new years EVE. And especially not late in the evening of new years eve.

The ending sucked, yes.
But
Everything else like the snowball fights, candy cane weapons, quests, and fun wintersday stuff was enough for me. Don't forget observer mode and the nice scenery
I quite partial to the fireworks and the sort. I'm sort of a pyromania--mancer .

Got both hats for 3 characters .

It does seem kind of short, considering many people would be out doing stuff for New Years Eve.

For Halloween, ANET accomodated people who could not make it right away. But this time around... *shrugs*.

No it started at 12pm GMT on european districts on the 31st(yesterday) and then every 3 hours, i should know i was there in english 8.

It was only the international events that started in the evening at 8pm GMT.
Most people like myself just assumed they would stick to the same times as halloween events and they were.

I live in Holland and I got my hat at 4 pm. That's 1500 GMT. Forums ftw.
The event started at 1300 CET, the next one was 1600 CET, 1900 CET, 2200 CET, 0100 CET (?).

I personally feel the hat giving should have gone on a day longer. I was out of town from the 30th to the 1st, not to mention palying from the Philippines which is +8GMT meaning the first event for me would have been around 4 in the morning. I'm sure im not the only person who travels or sdoes not have a constant access to the internet for the holidays. I actually managed to catch the last event (barely) but as I had been gone for 3 days I had no idea what was going on and I ended up with this set of antlers rather than the lovely santa hat.

And as to leaving my PC on before I left? I'll do that once one of you decides to pay my electricity bills.

Nope, im definately sulking about my lack of a hat.

One more day (or even half a day more) would have been a bit better.

Since christmas there was NPCs counting down to wintersday, everyone who visited any major cities with decorations in the last week had a fair bit of warning that something was going to happen.

What about people that go away for the whole holidays? or people whos internet goes down?

It's unfortunate but it's just a game, if you were out and you had fun does a hat or some antlers really detract from you having a good new years?
