IMPOSSIBLE Gandara at Hard Mode....
revelation
I've just been vanquishing Gandara, the Moon Fortress and everything was easy when I came to group of 20 lvl 26 kournan enemies... That was just insane! They weren't pullable or anything, they are 1 group and obviously I can't vanquish area without killing them with a normal group, maybe it would work with obs flesh tank and eles from behind, using wall aggro tactic similar to doa... Here are screenshots:
LONGA
I belive it was a quest.Try clearing the quest in normal mode and comeback later on hardmode.
Hockster
That's from the Thorn In Varesh's Side quest. You can't avoid it, they spawn until you complete the quest. Get it from Nerashi and do it in normal mode.
Benster
I believe you can see Neshari in the picture you posted. Like Hockster said, normal mode for the quest, then come back
revelation
I checked in my Quest Log and quest wasn't there... I must clear it anyways?
Hockster
Yes, she's in the EA, and they spawn whether or not you take the quest.

Oh, thanks for help

I ran into the same problem. Eliminating those guys on normal mode with my hard mode setup seemed like taking candy from a baby.
greenlantern
I did that area and beat that quest in hard mode. I had 2 heros with Metor shower, and I sent them in at the same time. The group stayed in one spot and died. Simple really.
Wilhelm
Prettty funny wammo bar to be honest.
Dahnel
Like how they are all practically stood on the same spot, Ice spikes, Savanah Heat, Sandstorm, Unsteady Ground gogogogo.
Nekretaal
We I wasnt able to beat them with just meteor shower. I was thinking of Edge of extinction bombing them though.
SkowroN
You need to complete the quest in normal mode, then vanquish the area. It doesn't matter if you have quest in log or not, if you dont finish it, Kournans will spawn anyway. I did it with no problem really, quest in normal is easy, and vanquishing after was easy too

Yeah i did this earlier. Cleared out 1 side, only to find 40 Kournans in a small space on the other. Just take the quest. Come back in Normal mode, complete it. Then come back in Hard Mode and clear the area of Heket/Skales.
Its nice and satisfying slaughtering that many Kournans in normal mode...

Difficult, yes. Impossible, no.
I have been Vanquishing on my Ranger and didn't even know about the Thorn in Varesh's Side quest. I never talked to Nerashi as I didn't know what quest was there, and what it might spawn. I got wiped pretty hard, but I did manage to kill 1 of th groups off first. Decided to try a different tactic, and had a lot of fun. First time I used Olias as MM, Dunkoro as Healer, and Sousuke as SF nuker, then added Kihm, Eve, Herta, and Odurra.
Second time I took:
Margrid - Barrage with Winnowing
Jin - Barrage with EoE
Myself - Barrage with FW
Razah - Splinter, Shelter, Union
Mhenlo
Kihm
Herta
Eve
There are a few seperate groups, and killing one will cause another to move. They can be handled seperately though. Group 1 has Warriors and Rangers - they can be killed without entering aggro range (longbow/flatbow) and they never attack back. Group 2 has Elems and Monks. Group 3 has Dervs and Necros. There is 1-2 Mesmers mixed in, but I don't remember which groups have them and which don't.
If you kill the Warrior and Ranger group, that causes another group to move- the Elems and Monks. This helps, as they are now far away from the other group. Go kill them, as killing any other group will spawn more Kournans in other parts of the map.
If you take your time, and kill them one group at a time, always killing the group that moved before anything else, it is more easily done. The Monks and Elems are the hardest to kill, so be ready for a fight with them.
If you just want Vanquisher credit, do the quest in Normal mode. If you want a fun trip to test your skills, do it in Hard!

Thinking about it...
Wouldn't it be possible to farm that large 3 in 1 mob with Barrage/Splinter?

I think it's a little bit harder with warrior who doesn't have long range damage
and AoE to kill that group.
and AoE to kill that group.

The Priests usually cover up most of the damage pretty soon, but the Zealots and Veil of Thorns really does screw up retreating, mob usually breaks up and you've gotta wait for em to regroup. Would need to be a 1kill kill situation.
