Will there be 9rings tomorrow. and if there are should you still buy tickets with cash?

I hope they would finally settle down with a non cash spending rank.

Drunkard/Ale/Lucky tier.

bit sad ranks now they do everything to stop you from making more then 1k a hour. ( the fair way )

I won't be earning them, period. I'm not really into the AFKing title farming. GW takes up to memory to run anything else, and my PS2 is being borrowed.

Hmm....Actually, now that I think about it, Doom might work well. Anyone wanna set up a deathmatch?

Anyone know how much time can we stay log on after the event? (Monday)

I was afk after the last Broadwalk event for 5 hours and for some crazy reason, it logged out automatically, I dunno if it was my DSL connection problem or not, I forgot to check >.<.

Standing afk for too long in a distirict of any town causes you to log out, especailly if a game update occured that you need to download. Eventually the game will kick you out.

But anyway... umm kinda a wierd rant by the OP. I don't really see what they are complaining about (earning more then 1k an hour the "fair?" way).

Doesn't matter. NPC gets removed at midnight (+/- a few hours) and not more tickets can be won.

To be more on-topic: I think the OP is a little bummed out (doesn't sound like he's complaining) that a lot of the maxed titles have to be goldsinks, especially the ones from this weekend. Although, you can get two for your money with with the Lucky and Unlucky titles.

well as of yet unlucky title is still just for looks.... and if you're going for just lucky you may end up actually gaining money depending on your... err.... luck.

I'll probably buy some tickets, sit my character down in the center ring, and go out with my girlfriend. yknow, real life stuff.... i know i know 2 seconds away from video games is blasphemy, but desperate times call for desperate measures!!

I was never interested in the Lucky/Unlucky title until they tied it to the retention rate of the Lockpick. I'll be an afk Ele this weekend, all weekend. *sigh*.

im hoping they would finally do some thing fun. for the last 4,5k hours if been farming my ass off to get some mony together for titles. Hardmode is a good improvement although i must say they still havent made the survivor rank possible for old tyrian chars.

i would love to see an end to that useless farming for cash just to finish off some of our kobd titles.

I've been farming in hard mode as a worm for Sunspear and Lightbringer points and have been racking up pretty good cash for the weekend event.

Combine what you are doing and you can get what you need for a few things at the same time. If I wasn't buying lockpicks all the time, I would be doing even better.

I posted this in a thread in Sardelac, but it is probably worth mirroring here.

The true value of a lockpick is (chance = chance of lockpick NOT breaking):
1500 + 1500 * chance + 1500 * chance^2 + 1500 * chance^3 + 1500 * chance^4 + etc... the sequence goes on forever. That sequence converges to 1500 / chance.

@ default 10%
1500 / 0.9 = 1667g
@ 12% w/ lucky 1
1500 / 0.88 = 1705g

So by getting lucky 1, you save 38g per lockpick. Wiki says the cheapest way to get lucky 1 costs 44.1k. You'll need to use 1164 lockpicks to break even. If you open 7 a day, it will take you nearly half a year to break even. Then, every 44th lockpick is "free."

@ 14% w/ lucky 2
1500 / 0.86 = 1744g
Getting lucky 2 saves you 40g per lockpick over lucky 1. Lucky 2 takes another 44.1k over lucky 1. You'll need to use 1112 more lockpicks to break even. After that, every time you use a lockpick, you save 78g. So every 21.5th lockpick is "free" - after you break even.

@ 16% w/ lucky 3
1500 / 0.84 = 1786g
Getting lucky 3 saves you 42g per lockpick over lucky 2. Lucky 3 takes another 132.4k over lucky 2. You'll need to use 3188 additional lockpicks to break even. After that, every time you use a lockpick, you save 119g. Every 14th additional lockpick is "free."

Get the lucky title if you want the lucky title. Getting it to help w/ lockpicks is a horrible investment.

Fender makes some nice points here with his analysis. I was thinking about doing some afk lucky to increase my chance at Lockpick sucess but now I'm second guessing myself.

You also might want to consider that ANet might finally get their heads outta their (you know what) and increase the 2% per lucky/treasure title sucess rate. If they made it 4-5% down the road then this might make Lucky more worthwhile.

The other thing to consider is outside of 4 leaf clovers this is the only valid way to increase the Lucky title. We might get 3-4 events like this per year, and only ~72 hours per weekend. According to wiki it takes ~290 hours to max out the Lucky title (along with ~890k). So if you haven't started your lucky title you'll be lucky to max it before GW2 comes out...

I'm thinking about AFK'ing Lucky level 2 just for grins....~80k and 29 hours of AFK'ing isn't so bad. Thank god I have a laptop that can run GW so I can play something else on my desktop (Rainbow Six Vegas anyone?)!

Fender I'm glad that you have a mind for such things. When I start thinking about numbers like that I soon get lost.

I take it that Lucky doesn't affect these numbers on any kind of graduating scale depending on your Treasure Hunter, that is Lucky's base percentage to affect lockpicks doesn't change with TH's rank. Of which I'll soon be at rank 5.

Do your numbers still hold true for Lucky to be a bad investment for Lockpicks, even where Normal mode chests are concerned?

Check out the wiki page on lockpicks.
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Lockpick
It turns out that it is always a good idea to use a lockpick on a 1250g chest, but only worthwhile for 750g and 600g chests if you have certain lucky and TH ranks. I kinda doubt anyone opens any chests lower that 600g anymore.

If you do a lot of normal mode chest runs, it might be worthwhile, but that's a little more of a complex problem that I don't feel like solving at the moment.
Maybe later.

Problem being, you have Gaile Gray running around posting stuff like...

This title takes literally a million tickets won to reach the supposed maximum tier; anyone seriously wanting to go for that simply has no choice but to afk even with the new lockpick update-which was a welcome addition, but more could still be done...

Guess I'm afk this weekend then -.-;

easiest way to get is... opening a lvl 1 chest (50g chests) with lockpicks that gives u a high high % of not breaking, but super crappy items

This assumes the "true value" of opening a chest is 1500 gold. Nobody pays that much for it - everybody has some chance to retain the lockpick.

My much simpler calculation is this - each rank of Lucky gives you an additional 2% chance to not lose a lockpick worth 1.5k, thus saving you an average of 30 gold (2% of 1500) each time. If you spend 44.1k to get the Lucky title during the festival, you'd have to open 1,470 chests with lockpicks to break even.
