Why the exemptions?

I thought the new scaling process might be to control the elite and wealthy from being too much so. But then I saw that things like ectos are exempt from scaling, and really it will only hurt the 'lower' players gold income. People like me that do a lot of presearing, or people that farm lower lvl places compared to the underworld. So really I see no point in this scaling other than to say, "Hey, you rich underworld farmer.. we don't want to hurt you!" and "Hey, you poor people, get poorer!". I never really understood the scaling to begin with, but now it makes even less sense and is now discrimatory! Please, make some sense of this for me. Thank you.

its actually quite reasonable they way they have it now.....the only thing the lowering of the Drops of ectos and rare items and such would have achieved is HIGH prices of those items....so by keeping the chance of getting them the same they have stuck with the stable market we now have....and it has effectively hampered the bot farmers who ran in killed all the trolls or whatever collected all the loot and then sold it to the merchant...they don't get as much per run.

if you poor your poor and if your rich your rich....its just the way it is...i think of myself as lower/middle class...i have 8-9 ectos and about 100k in the bank at any given time...and i only play a few hours a week....so if you never have money you need to check exactly what you are spending it on...just like in RL

If you read Gaile's rather lengthy post on the topic (can't see a link to it right off), she explains ANet's view.

In general, what they are attempting to do is curb the insane prices that have been floating around. The casual player would _never_ be able to afford FoW armor, or some of the nicer weapon skins out there.

The loot scaling system means that the casual player, who typically is in a full group, will earn the same amount of gold (both from gold drops and merching other drops) as they did before. However, the power farmers and bots would be earning a lot less. Thus, there'd be less overall gold floating around the economy.

However, the exemptions for greens, golds, rare materials, etc mean that there will be just as many of them out there now as before. In fact, with the changes to hard mode and normal mode, there will likely be even more of them out there.

So, what do you get when you have less gold to go around, and more of the desired items to go around? Lower prices! But, since the casual or normal player has unaffected income... they are much more likely to be able to buy these things. This can already be seen with rapid dropping in price of ecto's lately. This morning trader prices were 8.0pp/6.0pp for sell/buy. I suspect they will continue to drop for some time to come.

imho... A large proportion of the most vocal folks that were opposed to the change were the high-end farmers. So Anet just split the herd and gave back the ecto/gem drops so the high-end farmers would stop complaining and then they could just ignore the rest of the casual farmers because there weren't enough of them to make a difference..

Of course, my impression was that prices were at rock bottom. Far gone were the days of 1000 plat weapons.

But two years into the game? A bit late.

Hard more right now is killer money maker. It will probably be nerfed at some point, possibly by global drop quality reduction, since the increased attack speed makes for some really nice builds that weren't previously possible.

I actually am not poor acording to Corridan's definition of middle class. However, I got the way I am from not spending gold much. Although you have tried to make logical reasons for the way it is, I haven't heard anything very convincing. If I understand it, it is to control certain bot farmers? That could have been done by controlling the drops in those specific areas, and not in every part of the game. As I see it, there were plenty of other routes they could have take to achieve the same ends. I actually play the game quite a bit, so I'm probably not classified as casual. Regardless, I know I am not the only 'casual' person who does not like the change one bit, and the exemptions just add salt to the wound. I'm sure there is another 'reasonalble' way they could resolve their issues?

Anet doesnt discrourage farming.. they discourage BOT farming. Bots go and kill a bunch of stuff and get alot of whites and junk and sell them for 50ish gold. This was their income. Now, they get alot less of this, therefore less money. More expensive items like golds or ectos can't be bot farmed, therefore normal people can farm as they were.

Mesmer in Need inadvertantly struck on my point: white bot farmer... that being their income. Well, in a sense that was my income, but I'm not a bot. Now I make less money. I dont' really farm per se, as much as fight for xp. However, the gold and drops earned were my income. I guess you could say instead of getting a raise, I got a reduction in pay. However, underworld farmers (not the bot type) and runners continue to get their usual rewards. I'm not sure why there isn't more people like me voicing their concerns, but I know there are several out there, as I have talked to them ingame. I really think there has got to be a better way to accomplish the same goal.
