A lot of people in our office play GW, and we talk alot about it. I was describing to one of my woman collegues what we do in PvE as "We go out, do quests and misssion, earn money to buy better armor and equipment" and I showed her some screen shots of some of the armor and weapons that I have and some that I want.
She summed up what I was doing as "playing barbie dolls".
It took me a little while to sink in, but in a way she is right.
What is the point of barbie dolls; buy clothes and accesories.
What is the point of GW; buy armor and weapons, and kick butt to do it.

Here is a new idea for a Barbie theme: "Oh, Ken, let's go and shoot up the neighborhood so I can buy myself that new pair of pumps..."

The reason everything seems so odd from that point of view is because life is that way in general, heck you could say war is just like a bunch of little kids fighting over nothing .

You DO know, that GW was advertised as a PvP focused game, where the aim was to kill the other team? It quite obviously didn't turn out quite that way, although PvP could be like action figures or something. But with tactics, mind you.

playing barbie dolls takes more imagination. I like to think of it as GI joe, but whatever floats your boat.

I bet your female coworker devours women's mags and the stories about all sorts of personalities, and popular people. How's that different? We're obsessed about people. Playing Barbie dolls in GW is not much different than reading about Brad Pitt's latest haircut or getting a ticket for the latest girl's band concert... Look at today;'s reality TV shows... if that isn't BARBIE DOLLS on TV !!

A game that allows you to play with a Barbie Doll (or GI Joe), dress it up, paint it's clothes, pick a weapon and then take it into GvG with a clever build and your guildies talking tactics and joking in your ears while swinging your Axe or throwing your spells around sounds like a pretty cool game to me. When is it out?
