Ectos + other rare items' prices
Sand Man II
Any of you know if Anet placed a "price floor" for these items? As I have observed today, the price of Ecto dropped to a scaringly 7.5k each and I'm afraid that my items will be of very little value in the future. Anyone know?

There is no price floor for anything (material wise)

That's why you don't invest in ecto, take cold hard cash!
I remember when ecto was in the 4-5k range

This is just like the real economy in real life. When people talk about influction (dont know if this is the right word im dutch they lower there prices and people will follow them
Look:
Person A sells a crystaline req9 15^50 for 100k + 100 ecto
Person B sells the same sword for 100k + 1 ecto
People begin to think the crystalines (15^50 req9) are worth 100k + 1 ecto. So they sell for this price on forums and trade chat. And more and more people begin to sell.
Then the farming part comes in. Farmers begin to get anoying about the low prices so they stop farming and the ask for items is high but there is less to sell because nobody farm anymore .
Then the prices go up and people go farming again. (it depends on what is new but the will go farming)
Then the prices will go up again because the rich farmers can infualte the market with there money power. And the prices will go back to normal or what they want.
This is just realistic thinkin after 5 beers lol (qeensday over here). I think i wrote it pretty fine
Ciao skarkees

Skarkees, there is one issue I had with that.
I have never seen prices rise for a rare skin.

Swings and roundabouts. It'll go back up at some point.

No, there is no price floor on anything. Sigils used to be worth over 100k when GW first came out.
Amber and Jade used to be worth way more than it is now.
In my view it's the no anti-farming code anymore that is making ecto prices go down.

ye it goes up and down. Only thing that doesnt make sense to me is that 4 rare materials dropped at the same time ; Ecto / Sapphire / Ruby / Shards. And even Diamonds dropped from roughly 5k to 4k.
Productivity
Everyone saying it will just go back up, think it over a bit more. The fundamentals have changed. Two key points.
The amount of money in the market has decreased. Solo-farming generates little money, because the whites/blues have stopped dropping which were the primary money generator. If you want proof of this, go to an online gold seller and look at what the prices are for 1 million gold (this is one of the ways I track the value of money, I don't buy from them), at one large gold seller the price is over six times what it was a month ago. Every gold piece is more valuable, it buys more. This is a deflationary event.
The amount of ectos in the market is increasing, as prior farming restrictions (repeated farm scaling, aoe scatter etc.) have been toned back/removed. This increases the productivity of ecto farmers, allowing more to enter into the market. Again, this is a deflationary event.
The market doesn't move randomly, there is very little trading noise, it is mostly determined by fundamentals. It may go back up, if a spike happens in demand (GW:EN release if it includes extra character slots), however, as far as I can tell every current economic indicator says it should either level off or continue to trend downwards.
Just a few things to think on...
EDIT: What are they at now?

Yeah, the price floor of a Crystalline, req 7, +30 Hp and all perfect stats, is about 300g, ain't it? That's what the merchant says, at least.
So, no there isn't. The community makes up the economy.

i seen ectos go lower than this....i believe under 6k 7 or 8 mos ago....then they went back up to over 10k.

Yes, that was because of the AOE nerf. They hovered around 7K for MONTHS before nightfall's release... so I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm not sure if ectos will be going back up this time. When Anet made 3 sigils drop from HoH instead of 1 the price plumetted from 100k to 10k over a period of months, and never went back up.
Removing the anti-farming code seems to be permanently increasing the amount of ecto drops in a very similar way, so in my view it seems logical that a permanent degradation of ecto prices will follow.

Well your right, if Ectos got down to 100g, FoW armor would be everywhere, and no longer important or a sign of wealth. I doubt Anet will allow that to happen.
Plus, even in the unlikely scenario that Ectos got totally blow-out-of-the-water cheap, we would trade in like Diamonds, Rubys, or Shards...or something. Odd, but imagine it.

11k is high.
I think 8-8.5 is the average for ectos... sure, they might be slightly low now, but they'll probably go back up.

I'm guessing GW:EN will include a Elite Armor which uses Diamonds, thus Ectos will crash and Diamonds will be the wonderful price of 20k each for a little while

i don't think ectos will be going back up this time.
Ectos are easier to get then ever.
Rare skins are easier to get then ever.
who needs to hoard ectos and cash anymore?

It's worth noting that Sup Vigors have gone down quite significantly as well, so something's definitely up. Fits with the theory of deflation.

Anet know that ecto's are used by the majority as a high end currency, they wont let the value drop too low. If they need to adjust drop rates to keep ectos in the 6-10k bracket, they will do.

And it looks like once the super rich can't maintain the current ecto price of 7.5-8k ecto are going to drop.
Ectos are the old and busted and elite tombs are the new hotness

I think they should go back down to 4k or so. That way I could afford some! LOL

Black dye still worth money now a day and the price doesn't drop as fast!
