ATS tournament - ETA?
LyraMyst
Hey everyone,
I'm not quite sure if this is the right way to post about it but hell... here goes
As stated in the "I'm bored" topic in this sub-forum http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10150392, I also lost interest in hard mode lately. I turned onto the hero battles a while ago and I am eagerly awaiting ATS. I'm top 700 atm, so I really expect a lot of these automated tournaments...
I've been following this feature and as far as I know, they were finishing testing ATS gvg, and two weeks ago it was ATS hvh...
So does anyone (or ANet) knows any information about it? Like ETA, or what kinda tournament prizes?
Yours,
Lyra

Zee oh em gee! Lyra has two accounts!
But seriously, ANet has kinda kept us in the dark about the tournaments, etc. Unless there's something I missed, in which case someone here will happily fill you in.

Ya, there's a renowned poster on the forums known as lyra_song. It's just a little joke, no problem.
lyra_song
Hey i only have one account o.o; the ign lyra song has been taken by someone else anyway.....i didnt know i was renowed, i thought i was loud and obnoxious. >.>

On topic, the ATS system is really the first time ive seen Anet allow the community to see a new feature in such a raw state. The other features like storage upgrades and HM have had months in testing before they even hinted it to the public, so judging from that alone, you can expect a wait before these are implemented into the live server

first it was in january.
then it was at the end of the filler lame celestial tournament.
then it was after a bit of closed beta.
now... what?? 5 months of delay seem more than enough to me.
especially considering that we're gone through 2 "fun tournament" already, and that Gvg players have absolutely nothing to play for, right now.

The last competitive article stated that the first tournament season would begin May 1st. So, there's no reason to suspect a delay until tomorrow rolls around, and we haven't heard anything yet.

"Starting in May 2007, our new, automated tournaments will provide players and guilds the opportunity to qualify for exciting monthly championships where over $10,000 worth of prizes are awarded to the winners."
That, translated from Anet languages, should mean 28th of May, and effectively starting in June

So far, tomorrow noon is May 9. So we must assume "today" date is May 8.

a delay, oh noes. this comes as a complete shocker.... Honestly i wish anet would stop giving time frames if they have no intention of sticking to them.

Apparently he/she/it does, they must want to find all the bugs ANet missed so they can post a whine thread about how crappy the ATS is and how ANet has lousy testers, etc etc etc.

As ever, Arena Net have moderately competant PR, who do everything to avoid giving an actual date, however if you look through the history, critical features (trade improvements lol?) have a history of having extremely long lead times before they are released.
They started 'working' on storage upgrades 18 months ago lol.

Apologies from me: The article was slated to be posted at Noon. The website server crashed this morning, and both news post/articles were delayed by a few minutes or even, I think, by an hour or so.
That part is very true.
You know, there are those at ArenaNet who feel we should not state even a vague timeline. They want to avoid putting the team under stress, and allow us to work most efficiently on what needs to be done first, even though that sometimes isn't what the players want most. (And yes, honestly, prioritization must be the developer's call. Not everyone demanded reconnects at the top of their list, but reconnects really was a more critical addition than, say, storage increases.) So some on the team say, "Don't make a promise, don't even let players know we're working on something."
I disagree.
I'd rather you know we hear you, and are working on things you care about, even if we sometimes miss a deadline, as we did with the Automated Tournament System, or even if we get heat for not working on this one player's top "essential," or that other player's special request. I ask for timeframes all the time, and I like to give them to you because, when I was following games as closely as you follow Guild Wars today, I liked knowing what was coming, and I appreciated having some vague idea of what might be on the tracks, heading in my direction. We give the timeframes with the hopes that you'll understand if we might miss one. In fact, the ATS is delayed because we needed the team to work on some critical elements for GW:EN, so we had to make a shift in dates.
You probably have noticed we're not giving month or day deadlines as much any more. The ATS situation is one reason. We missed that date, plain and simple. Another thing to consider is that some players can leap to assume "You promised!" when we simply say we'll consider something or when we say "Maybe in a month" and it's longer.
Communication is a good thing -- we're committed to it as a company; I'm committed to it as a liaison. But please understand that we've never missed a game release date, never flubbed on a event release timeframe, and we've been adding a lot to the game over the last two years. I'm hoping that you can look beyond the extra time that we regretfully needed for the ATS and consider the system on its merits, once it is released.

hI, Gaile.
Gills clearly stated ATS would go live in April in the previous SotG. You broke the promise without making any official statement (I mean, no chat from you, Gaile, but a formal article on GW site). This is not good course of action. (or inaction?)
As a tester, I knew it was apparent ATS was not completed as expected (it had various problems/bugs which weren't related to stress at the beginning) and you need time to fix them. Others who heard/read about such might expect the delay was unavoidable as well.
But such people were limited in number. Most ppl didn't know such information. You should announce it must be postponed for some time (and ask ppl to wait for further news) around the time when Devs decided to do further testing. (aroud mid April?)
Lack of news was bad in this case, as timeline was already given a month ago. Don't you think so?
I had concern whether ATS could endure real stress as we had less than a hundred of testers at max. I hope live test would become true as Gills stated in the latest SotG and you can run live stress test with hundreds or thousands of registrants.
And while you're reading this thread... I have a question as well.
Are there something wrong with the new daily ATS schedule?
Thursday 23:00 HvH - Friday 24:00(you mean 0:00?) HvH
Monday 23:00 GvG - Tuesday 24:00(same here) GvG
Only 1 hour interval between 2 tournaments??? Do I misread the table?

AT's delayed for ~8 days... bit of a backfire there eh Gaile? I think Cassandra deserves an apology
Seriously though, Anet have delayed AT's for ~3 months. At this point I don't think there's ANYTHING Anet could do that would make me think of them as a 'good' company. Every time they say they are going to implement something, it takes an extra 2 months. And you wonder why GvG's are becoming stupid....
Peewee
There is no competitive gvg while these Ats are being rolled out. A delay means more time that us GvG players sit on our hands, thinking about joining WoW. I mean, imagine overhauling PvE and removing significant parts of that for several months. Essentially, we payed for new chapters to remain competitive, and the part of the game we payed to play, isnt here.
Every. single. missed. deadline is a kick in the teeth, and while you guys may deem them as neccesary, it doesnt really take the pain away.

Yeah, making the ladder not matter in terms of AT's, but not putting in AT's, is just like Anet making a new drop system, but removing all monster drops for 2 months while they implement the new system....
