<--- is now a pile of oohs, ahhs, and squees on the floor

I've always been really addicted to colors (my husband always heckles me to pay more attention to anatomy and values in my stuff, rather than relying on color so much), and your artwork is like a hit of high quality color-crack to me. (The rest of it is excellent too, but I always fixate on color use.)

Is color theory something you've studied/practiced very diligently, or is it an innate talent? I know that good art is more often perspiration than inspiration, but every so often someone is born just "getting" certain things well.

Well, i can only add many "wows" to you, excelent work. Very impresive.

Those look definitely awesome. I wish i had the skills to do digital painting that way. I can only work with natural means XD, but i'm short of time for artworks lately. Well, someone recently inspired me to get back to artworks again so it feels really good to hold a pencil in my hand again. I've been using photoshop for a long time, yet i have never worked on digital painting before. Probably your works inspire me to start practicing myself

Any tips for the newbies like me?

Well, see you around.

Argh. XD Before my thread dies I shall post something. Sorry they are not GW related but my original characters and creations. I'm currently working on some GW arts but I'm a bit busy atm.

My redheaded shaman girl, Neesa.

My curvylicious mage character Hisa Liliam and her rival and partner in crime Raj the horn(y) dude.

One of the things I'm currently working on but *gasp* who could it be.

Man, I forgot to answer some questions. I guess I just thought I did and forgot to actually do it...how typical. XD

Actually I'm positive there is something more wrong than right with my color vision or the way I see colors. I'm always jealous of people who know how to tone it down and keep it down to earth. The way I see it my works just end up being a complete psychedelic fuzz of bright colors wheter I wanted it or not. :P I have studied color theory more indepth just last year. I don't always think about light or theory when I paint but sometimes I do on purpose. It's also fact that when my friends would point out to me e.g. a jacket they think is a lovely shade of blue or green I often comment how it looks grey and dull to me(This is pretty common withme). I know there is nothing wrong with my (color)vision so maybe it's just perception? I have no idea. :P

But just personally I think colors and lightning are waaay more important than anatomy and correctness in artwork. Colors can do so much to a piece that other values become way less significant and flaws may go unnoticed. It's all about creating illusions eh? ;P

~Diane. I think being able to use natural mediums and just draw and sketch a lot is of great benefit and will help you no matter what digital mediums you feel like using in the future. As for digital painting tips. I don't know if I'm any good at giving tips but here are some I try to follow myself. :P

-Don't be afraid to make a mess because you can always undo, erase and paint over. Use more than one layer to make this more efficient.

-Try out different brushes to find your favourites. You can pretty much make your own brushes and adjust them 'till kingdom come but it's not nessecary. Personally I like to use just a few brushes that seem to work for me. I finally found this link yay! CA.org forums has a really nice thread for PS Brush sharing.

-My favourite technique is to paint on top of a sketch. Paint colors and do the shading underneath the lineart first like you would color something with visible lineart. After that just start painting on top of the linearts, blend them into the picture and make them disappear where you want them to. Some people like to start painting on top of a mess and keep adding detail but I rarely do that myself.
This is pretty much what I did:

Something like that I guess. I think it's somewhat of a general concensus that Painter overrules Photoshop in painting digitally and Photoshop is better fore manipulating and adjusting photos and the like. But there are ofcourse people like me who still love to use Photoshop for painting even if the brush dynamics are really clumsy in comparison to Corel Painter. :P

Wow I leave for a year and all these new artists spring up o.O

The part that I really love about your characters is the way they look, it's like a corss between anime and realism(the style I choose when I do busts) and the river of colors that flow through each picture so wonderfully. Even the ones that lack a background for detail are masterfully done and don't nee done. I adore your work and bow to it. *bow*

Keep drawing before I sick my LvL.70 Rogue on you. =P

Thanks.
Hehe, well the thing with me and anime is. I can't quite get rid of the style even if I wanted to. It'll take time. When I started drawing characters they were all based on western fantasy stereotypes but then somewhere along the way anime came around and there it is! Dang it haha.

The mage and the "devil" are very old characters and certainly have their fair share of clichés and I wouldn't argue with that. I was younger when I made them. But clichés are fun sometimes hehe! I'm sure Raj would appreciate that comment, maybe I should really make him mad...hmmm sounds interesting!

I haven't had much time to properly draw or play for a while but here are some sketches I did a while back. Had just forgotten to scan them. All of these are based on characters often seen on the screenshot forums. Mainly TNMT related peoples~! Wonder if you can guess who they are based on. :P

Okay I guess you can't really guess this one since she isn't wearing much anything. I was supposed to draw Mango's Roar Roar but somehow the clothes didn't turn up in the picture. :P

Ok well back to my miserable duties now bybye.

I do want to get back to doing a few more GW commissions in the future. Atm it just seems impossible, ha.

Btw this is what my sketches REALLY look like before I clean them up. Pencil sketches are even worse, filled with smudges etc. I always have to erase them like once or twice before I get the lineart clean. I'm sooo jealous of people who can draw clean pretty shaded sketches from scratch. Curses! :P

---

This is actually zOMG Lore's mesmer done waaay back. I'm still planning to cel color it and send it to her when I get it finished. It's a bonus for commissioning me twice and for the nice tips. :3

(I have a huge lineart version if somebody for some strange reason wants to color o.o)

Edit: Hmm...where to upload huge lineart version...*scratches head* XD
Err let's hope imageshack doesn't compress it much to much:

There we go. (:
Edit2: Oops, you can erase the for Lore text since that should be from me only. XD

Sure go ahead, my da account is http://neesa.deviantart.com/
btw. (:
I very much like coloring others linearts myself. Don't remember if I have any other linearts anywhere. I'm so messy with my sketches I usually just skip the 'clean lineart' phase and jump right onto coloring. xD

I think I used to make a few tutorials long time ago but I don't even use the techniques in those anymore I think. XD

I could at some point try drawing an Open Canvas piccy and upload the event file. You could watch the paint process with just a tiny program I could upload aswell if I find it.
