Dying Nightmares in HM
ShadowbaneX
Did a search for this, but didn't find anything. My question is what is the best way of dealing with the dying nightmares in Hard Mode? I play the SS in a dual farm with a guildmate (Mo/D). We gave Hard Mode a try, but those nightmares were being a real pain. I think we ultimately settled on SSing the thing, but has anyone come up with anything better?

Have the monk attack it with a Holy damage based rod?
warpedheat101
OwEV0Q39QIXjpeAS4LRE1oIBgIPA.......i use that and wand the hell out of it while the necro helps some
ichigo_panty
The monk should be able to wand it to death.

I"m guessing this is a dual smite run. If that's the case, the key is to aggro them seperately from the aaxtes, or run SB and have the other guy wand it before SB runs out

The problem comes in with the nightmare being Level 25. One nightmare pop can be dealt with with just wanding the sucker... but lets be honest, you can't wand 2 nightmares before the monks SB wears off.
The necro must be more pro-active here. Let him cast SS and Defile/Desecrate enchantments on the nightmare and continue with the aatxes as per usual. The mare dies a LOT quicker.
If anyone is interested, I've got a method for managing the scatter of large mobs in HM (especially useful for smite groups bigger than 3). Let me know if anyone is interested in me doing a write up

Actually, I would like to know. We did make it to the smites a couple of times, but that was the 55s first time dealing with the scattering AI (he's pretty new to this) and they kicked the crap outta me. Also since he was Mo/D he wasn't able to heal me. Does HM actually require a Mo/W do to properly or can the variants such as Mo/D suffice?
Also is it possibly to solo 55 UW?

Solo will be possible. But there are now 2 DN instead of 1 and they scattered the moment they receive AoE. Gotta time everything well.
I will give it a try on solo UW HM later and will report on how it went.

Will write up the method we use to manage scatter-AI in the next few hours and post it.

Haven't had any experiance with HM dual UW farming, but got a decent amount of experiance in farming there in Normal Mode.
During the the "normal" 55/SS UW runs, I've noticed that bringing SV/AV (or having the SS bring it, which he/she should most of the time anyways) and using it against Aatxes as well, not only against Smites and Graspings, helps a bit in killing Nightmares. Usually they'll BiP themselves to death trying to keep the Aatxes' energy up.
So, seeming they'll still sacrifice 33% of their max health per use - they just love spamming it -, In theory, they should die just as fast as the Normal Mode ones. Depending on how big groups of Aatxes you take on, Reckless Haste might cause a slight problem with SV/AV's efffectiveness - although it shouldn't be too big.
Not sure whether you've tried it or not, or if it will synchronize with the way you keep aggro.
Hope this helps.

On day one, I went duo trapping with a friend, and I can say, they're a lot stronger than in normal mode. They have a lot more HP and armor so I dont think wanding them won't be that effective.

I made a post in UW Hardmode (solo necro 55), I just got back from vegas I will make a video tonite.
Here's what I do on Hardmode and it always works
1) cast your 3 enchants
2) switch to 105 hp w/ wand
3) if 3 atts are together it means 99.9% a nm will pop. walk up the stairs backwards. As soon as u get aggro run to good old benton and hide behind him. (run in to benton the way that your swerving to the right, when your hiding behind. hard to explain in writing. The whole point is so you avoid the att from coming on the other side were there is 75% chance that he will attack even if your behind benton).
4) Once the 1 att is stuck in front of him the nm's should be closing in.
5) let the nm rend enchants (once all 3 of your enchants are gone) quickly cast ps and hb. then ss and wand him to death.

I did wand one of them...thing is it was actually able to kill me before I could kill it. It was going up to 60 damage a hit...
