Quote:
When we released the first beta of ALchemy for X-Fi, we hoped customers would appreciate our efforts. Within only a few months, the response from users and the press has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of our customers have asked if we could adapt ALchemy to Audigy series sound cards. The X-Fi and Audigy series sound cards are built on different hardware architectures, and therefore require separate development efforts. However, based on the requests to date, we are pleased to announce that we have begun development of an implementation of ALchemy for Audigy series sound cards, and hope to offer this product as a low-cost upgrade to interested Audigy owners later this year.
Good News
Creative is making "Alchemy" software that Audigy sound card users.
In a nutshell we will have EAX support back in Vista games.

X-Fi users already have this ability for free.

Bad News.
There going to try to make us "pay for the upgrade" to have this feature.

Devil's Advocate: When we bought the sound cards, Vista support was never promised / it's not on the box.

... but as a consumer that own's one of there cards... I'm pissed off. Especially since creative does "uniformed" drivers (the x-fi drivers have the audigy drivers in them) and support full OpenAL support (which is used to map to EAX on vista) in the XP drivers already.

Q: Is this caused by a driver issue?

A: This is not a driver issue, and cannot be fixed with a simple driver update. The DirectSound Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) has been removed from the Windows Vista OS.

Q: I have a game that supports OpenAL. Do I need to use Creative ALchemy?

A: No, OpenAL has direct access to our hardware and does not require the ALchemy wrapper.

If you realy need CA it leaves you with 3 options

1. Wait until a 3rd party releases a translator for free
2. Stick to XP
3. Trash the audigy and get another soundcard
