First off I know why the elite tomes are selling for quite a bit. But to use a tome, one has to unlock a skill first, which would make the skill available from any trainer of the corresponding campaign; so why would normal tomes ever sell for more than 1k (max price to buy a skill)?

The only reason I can think of is wanting a 'foreign campain skill' early in the game.

You can't unlock skills from campaigns you don't own, I think.

And there is no point in buying normal tomes for more than 1k. Ever.

Get the Tome for max 800 gold (tho 500 gold is the usual price). Go in AB with a PvP char/a high-level one. Make 1k Faction. Unlock skill. Learn skill. Easy as pie.

Yeah but I think he meant that even if you own the campaign, you can't buy that skill before you actually travel there. So if you can't buy lets say.. Words of Comfort until you travel to Kamadan, you can use a scroll in Borlis Pass and use gain it there.
