Which expansion is better?
Now obvious this is a matter of opinion but let me tell you the type of people's opinion i am looking for.
1. someone who likes pve over pvp
2. someone who enjoys a lot of options when building a character
3. would rather see improved game features over new game features.
Anyone willing to share their opinion is obviously welcome to but im looking for specific things before i invest.

we should just make a sticky thread for this kind of thing.
you want nightfall. but, it's a better experience if you played the other campaigns first.

prophecies by far has the best pve content, but nightfall also has good pve content and the addition of heroes. Pretty much just dont get factions and you will be satisfied.
Water Angel
agree.
faction is a total miss pve speaking. but for those who like pvp alliance battles may be fun
nighfall offer heroes battle, and a nice pve campaign + heroes.so interessing both pvp and pve speakin.
profecies have a huge and very nice pve storyline.
i would say if you like both pvp and pve go for nighfall.if more pvp oriented go faction.if pve oriented profecies.

Hope this helps.

Personally, i think prophecies is best for a first time buyer, it has a nice learnig curve where you gradually level up and get used to playing the game, you don't get thrown in at the deep end straight away*cough*factions*cough*, and it has an area where you can get used to your skills and basic gameplay( the pre-searing).
That's my opinion, others may prefer nightfall, but for a first time player i think Prophecies is definatly the best.
Hope that helps

I'd go for Nightfall.

I fit about what you're looking for, and I vote Nightfall. The PvE was a lot more interesting (to me) than Prophecies was (to me). Options-wise, Prophecies as the most, but Nightfall has nicer ones (and far more hair colors), and overall I've been most happy with the character creation options in Nightfall. A lot of the "features" tend to get implimented/improved across the board, so that's not probably as much a factor as the other two.
Personally, though, I loved Factions. And the armor was awesome.
However, I wouldn't say that any of them are "expansions" - they're full games in their own right.

Welcome to guru. I will start by saying that I only PvE.
1. Each chapter - Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall - is a standalone game that can be linked to another by adding the key to your existing account.
2. As stated, the sticky at the top of the Q&A forum (Player on a budget) explains the differences between each chapter.
3. Prophecies is overall the favorite for beginners. Requires the least knowledge of the game. You get to learn as you go. Also has the greatest scenery.
4.Nightfall is favored when you want to start off with customizable heroes (henchmen), but this does require knowledge of builds for other professions to make them useful. Otherwise you are better off with the henchmen.
5. Very sweet chapter, I loved it. But it was my second purchase, and the quick trip through training to level 20 monsters on the mainland was not as traumatic as if it was my first experience.
6. All game features, excepting chapter-specific professions/skills and NF heroes, are universal, or even if started in one chapter, soon become universal. ArenaNet has constantly updated the servers throughout the life of the Guild Wars world. Ask any player/forum member who has owned the game since it went retail two years ago, and they will tell you it is not the same game.
You can also check for more info on http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page
Enjoy the game, whichever you buy.

prophecies is the answer to your question. i dont think there shold be any need for discussion.
placebo overdose
i say proph it is cheapest and has good story but there is a lack of players in some parts also remember the NF and Factions has more skills and professions so that may also influence your choice but i do not recomend Factons for starting although it is a great campaign

Isn't the trilogy pack out yet?
Lotrfish
They're all equally awesome, so get all of them. You know you want to.
Jetdoc
If you like playing in a group, Prophecies.
If you like going solo, Nightfall.

sorry for the redundant question but sometimes the simple "which is better". I have prophesies and it is a great game for pve i agree 100%. I will get nightfall next because it seems that it is more fun so you have said. The idea of tailoring my henchmen sounds even better as i wish my healer would not fight and just focus on healing.

Great news, welcome to the game.
And we all love that feature of adding Nightfall to your account. Being able to prevent your heroes/henchmen from aggroing every mob in the vicinity or trying to fulfill dreams of being a melee fighter are wonderful.
By the way, minions will continue to be a problem with aggro.
