something to keep in mind while makeing GW2
tenshi_strife
the more i read about GW2 the more and more im scared taht gw will become another wow clone and anet you guys did such a great job on gw1 i figured i would list wht i think makes GW, GW.*these are not in any particular order im just listing them as i think of em ^^*
Guild Halls
this may not seem like a big deal but i cannot think of another game taht has this. i love my hall and i spend lots of time there. idk how you would add halls to a persistent world but please dont leave them out.
Town Warping
please keep this... i do not want to spend hours to just get to some where please
Pvp chars and balth faction
i love the pvp in gw cause you can just throw together a pvp char and have fun, and with balth faction you can keep getting better and better
story driven plot
ok i have played wow and it just says "here is you charecter go out and play" and that bores me beyond belife. GW gives you a story and pushes you along in the story and i love that please keep this.
Casual play
please keep it to where a casual player can still progress through the game, so many people who play gw cannot spend hours playing but yert still love gw.
8 skill bar
wow has it to where you can use every skill at all times, so as a result all palidins are the same all mages are the same ect ect. please keep our skill bars it give so much diversity and stratgy.
anet you have done such a wonderful job with gw and i hope you continue taht with gw2, i hope you keep this in mind so gw does not become wow2.
if i have missed anything please feel free to post what you love about GW lol

A great post.
I agree with everything but the PvP chars.
From what I have read Anet plans to let you use your normal, PvE char in PvP but with the same ability to use any item/skill already unlocked that current PvP chars allow. This seems even better then the current method.

Pvp will have full unlocks from the beginning in GW2. Already been announced.

Jeff Strain has stated that GW2 will not become a WOW clone. Sure there will be some elements in GW2 that will be simular as what other MMOs have. But GW2 will also be much differant.
Most likely we will have Guild Halls.
Has been stated there will be Town Warping.
PVP has been answered above.
Instead of one Epic Story there will be several smaller stories. There will be Instanced Mission play.
Has been stated that GW2 will be Casual Gamer friendly.
There will be a cap on the number of skills we can use. Jeff Strain has said that it will be simular to what we are used to now and yet be differant.

I also think you should keep in mind on how to spell the word making in your thread title. I disagree Id rather have an open world that I start it free to do what I want, rather then playing the same old linear go through a storyline diablo style game play. I feel people sometimes just understand that from what we know by now GW2 will not be the same GW we play now. Btw ^ were was it said we would have town warping, just curious an interview or did Gaile say it.
Diablo???
I'm confident they won't break what isn't broken in the first game. "Casual Play" may be the only thing that might change, but I'm not too worried about that.

im glad to hear about the town warping, pvp, and the skills. and im curious to what they mean by mini plots >.<
yea im quite sure anet wont change the good parts of the game but i kinda wanted to get this out there cause like i said i was reading up on Gw2 and was beginning to get scared lol
and about the spelling MAKING wrong well i was typing really quickly and i tend to add extra e's lol

Guild Halls will obviously still be instanced, its common logic they'd do that.
They already stated somewhere that although it will be a persistent world they will still have instances. (Assumably for boss fights, dungeons, guild halls, and towns?) What my main concern is, will they expand on those now that instances will be a more specialized part of GW? (GW2 that is)
I'm talking about things like, actual town environments with NPC's who interact (via Oblivion). Drama and other little things like that, things that make you feel like you're really in a town. Aside from that theres so much more they could add to guild halls, first thing being customization. To what degree I don't know, but I'm saying things like catapults and all that. Maybe even custom banners of the Guild hanging in the guild hall etc etc.. The little things really add up.

i read in the pcgamer article how they're doing "worlds" like WoW, and it totally put me off gw2.
i would say keep it how it is, but ohwell.
ill just play gw1 til they shut it down or i get bored totally.

One thing to remember is that ANet does not tend to do things "like everyone else" does them. They have stated that they are not trying to become a WOW clone. But making decisions based on early articles about a game that is over a year away from beta is not smart.
Posts such as the OP are great for ANet. Specific "I want you to keep" and "I want you to add" items are what they constantly request and seldom receive.
It has been mentioned in interviews/articles that there will be no linear storyline. There will be events in the persistant world that affect the game overall. This will be like a Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms where you have the overall world situation and many different stories; some affect only you and some affect the whole area.
They have also said they intend to keep the game "casual player" friendly, but cater a little more to the "intense" players with things such as a higher level cap (although the benefits ratio decreases as the level goes up).

I'm just looking forward to the beta, you dont really know how it'll be until it gets here, much like hard mode that was hyped up and let quite a few down. So you wont know what it'll be like till you play it

If it all results in things being faster and more reliable sounds good to me

ok yea a few things, first why was this moved a quick question lol, im not complaining just wondering.
also yea i do believe the worlds will be wow like, and that doesnt bother me. if you can switch as much as possible will make this not a problem, just make sure you can see what world your friends are on.
also about the level cap, i really dont mind removing the cap, but i would like it if when you hit lvl 20 you stoped gaining benifits. so the levels after that are just for show.

If town warping is confirmed, thank God.
I remember making a Tauren druid when I used a WoW free trial, and after getting my bear form, flying back on a griffon. 5 minutes of boring flying to get from one place to another is not how I want to spend my time.

nubs with e-peen and elitist attitudes towards a "game" actually ruin it for alot of people without any friends in an online game.
and the only way to actually get into the elitist "circle" is to grind all hours of the night for that extra fame. which the "casual" player doesnt do.
with no lvl cap in gw2, people will do it for exp.
anet making their game for the casual player? HAH! i laugh at that notion.
Lydz
This may seem really lame ass, but I love the fact the my characters "hover" when they cast spells (you know...jump up into the air etc.) It makes the spellcasting much more realistic than the simple glowing hands in games like WoW! Please keep this :P

I personally have never seen anyone with a "I'm better than you because I AB more than you" attitude either. Therefore, adding no level cap in PvE doesn't mean this will happen. Also, once GW2 is relatively old, you may find someone who has been playing the game for years, but has many low level characters. This doesn't mean that they are worse than other people. People will eventually, if not immediately, come to realise this.

NO GANKING!!!
To pvp you have to goto the mists and thats it, it allows the Pve'ers in us all to pvE without the ganking and usual e-peen that come with high numbers... I'd even bet real world money that many that come over for the high levels and the ganking will leave very quickly when they realise they can't gank and the lvl cap means nothing
Darcy
Another thing to keep in mind, RL people who have applied to ANet for jobs have stated that a requirement for employment was that you had to play GW.
It always helps when people working on a game will be playing it. No decisions by people who think video games are a waste of time.
So ANet has a list of "don't want" that includes all the bad things that crop up in other games. And if you track down all the interviews, the spokespeople have made that list very clear.
