XX grip of XX mastery
Dahl
I'll start things off by stating that something like Axe mastery raises axe damage, crit rate, and attack power of axe attack skills.
If I had an axe grip of axe mastery +1(20% chance while using skills) and let's say I used executioner's strike, and the mastery grip activated. Would it just increase the attack damage of the skill, or would it for that one attack raise base axe damage, crit rate, and axe attack skill bonus?

I think it increases all of them, but of course, in the end, it's just increased damage lol
Coloneh
it increases the attribute for that skill, so yeah. crit raises, base dmg raises, and bonus dmg raises.

And when you're already doing 100 a swing with a 33% attack speed buff, you tend to wanna pack on as much damage as you can. Every single attack I make is an attack skill, so the chances of increasing my damage is immense.
Time to get mastery mods

ps. 100 a swing to things like torment creatures and titans, not to things like charr, hahaha.

It's not worth taking one..

on paper it sounds good...but in game i doubt if you will ever see the difference in normal play. I would suggest taking a defensive hilt/grip etc or even a fortitude one...

If it worked the way I thought it did, I would have seen a big difference, since EVERY swing i take is an attack skill. But I did some testing, and the mastery mod only increases skill damage.
I tested this with wild blow on a 60 armor, I did 47 damage 58 times in a row. There is no base damage increase, and I didn't notice any difference for critical hits when I was beating down groups of those adjacent armors.
It sounds like it would raise the attribute while using a skill, but it really only increases the skill itself, not you as a character.
That being said, I'm sticking with defense. It was a thought at least. Basically I'm just trying to make my build more powerful than it already is, I'm greedy for damage. I wish there was some way to make the monk keep judge's on me to be perfectly honest hahaha, but they're too stupid, and they just use it on themselves before using it on anyone else.

well you can always go with a monk secondary and put it on yourself or go elemental and use either fire or water element to make more damage with mele attacks...don't remember the names of the spells off hand but look around and you will find it.

Overall though, Mastery mods ain't worth it. I've never really noticed the difference swinging a weapon...
