Morp into one of the GoDs?!
elLOCOmutha
I was recently doing a mission where one of my team members morphed into a god...his armor changed and his look. i just returned to GW to play nightfall and was wondering how players are doing this? Whats it called?
He was a dervish prof...

Yep, the Dervish have elite skills that allow them to turn into avatar of the gods.
There are 5 in total, each one have a different look and abilities based on the 5 gods of tyria. Check wiki for more pic and info.

Those are the Avatar skills.
You can do Grenth, Balthazar, Dwayna, Lyssa and Melandru. Unsurprisingly, you can't become Abaddon.

You don't morph into a god. You simply changed to the god's henchman.

More accurately.... in accordance with the definition of the word "avatar" as understood in context..... the elite skills in question allow the Dervish to adopt an earthly manifestation of the gods in question.
Guildmaster Cain
And not very surprisingly, this gives most Dervish players the 'God Syndrom' commonly known as Megalomania.
Avatars don't make you all-powerfull. In fact they have only very specific uses. Avatar of Balthazar is good for running. Avatar of Lyssa is great versus Torment creatures using Call of Torment (does bonus +100 dmg against them, while activating skill). Avatar of Melandru is usefull against bosses that abuse conditions and stuff, like the Hunger and Abaddon.
Rest areas and forms are pretty useless, rather go with Vow of Strength or Silence.

Ahhh so it's a dervish elite skill thing....too bad I cant get those for my warrior! But I just ascended my derv so i'll look into them! Cool idea and thanks for the info all!
Toutatis
You could get them for your Warrior, if he had Dervish as a secondary profession. Although all the transform skills are linked to the Dervish primary attribute, so only a Dervish is going to be able to make use them fully.
And all the elite form skills can be capped in Kourna, so they're quite close together

dont be to amazed by them. they may have a cool visual, but they dont do much.
Soul of the Scythe
The Dervish Forms are some of the best skills in the game. For the amount of energy they cost(Dwayna and Lyssa at 5e, Balthazar at 10e, Grenth at 15e, and Melandru at 25e), their duration(+/- 60 seconds), and their effect(Dwayna; Heal and Hex loss on Skill use, Lyssa; +20e, +dmg againts foes activating skills, Blathazar; 33% faster run, holy dmg, +40 armor, Grenth; cold dmg, enchant removal on hit, Melandru; +100 health, earth damage, immunity to conditions) they have to be considered some of the best Elite Skills in the game, no question.

I'm going to get ahead and camp with 'Soul of the Scythe' on this one, not because I think he is right, well, I do, but the reason I do is why I am siding with him. Make sense? Seems his primary character is a dervisher, so I'll side with him.
Darkside
My primary and fav character is my dervish and the avatar elites are all pretty good depending on the situation they are being used. As already stated each has its place...I'm not sure why anyone would say they are useless unless they haven't used them effectively.
HawkofStorms
They have there place, but in PvP they are limited in use (crippling your builds effectiveness for 60 seconds at a time due to the skills long recharge makes them less then perfect). I wouldn't say they are the BEST elites in the game (though arvatar of grenth pre nerf was ridiculous) but they aren't as worthless as Cain is making them out to be either. There good and balanced atm (even if they did need a lot of tweaking intially, like lower the +health with Melendru).
Coloneh
in PvP they have limited use because of the short time of arena battles. but for PvE they are complete shit because of the ridiculous downtime, and how awsome reaper's is.

With some of the longer duration forms you have significantly less than 60 seconds down time. I almost never used them, I do now sometimes.
Balthazar comes to mind as the biggest "buff" - I do not care about Holy Damage but the 33% speed increase and +40 armor is quite nice. With it's duration that makes it one of the better tanks in the game - more armor than the warrior and a long enough duration to last to the end of nearly all PvE encounters. By the time your casters have regenned their energy you should be ready to go again.
Lyssa does plenty of extra damage, especially in nightfall where many creatures spam skills like crazy. You easily last long enough to rape the caster mobs.
And, finally, Dwayna is good simply for the hex removal, especially in some of the hex heavy areas in nightfall - unfortunately her duration isn't nearly as long as the others.
Personally I do not use them much as I do not see the need, however they are far from useless and rank up there with some of the better elites. How many warriors would kill for a 10e +40armor skill that lasts 63 seconds with only a 10 in the attribute or be able to strip a hex for every skill? Too many start from "Dervish == Teh Suck" and go from there. It's amusing that if one of the popular classes had these skills they would have been nerfed into oblivion - personally my Dervish is quite happy having some really overpowered builds still available.
