The empire of Orr
Pericles
The history of Orr intrigues me and i would like to come up with some speculations for the following questions:
How was Orr controlled (was it a monarchy, republic etc.)?
How exactly was Orr destroyed?
Where did the Orrians come from?
What did Orr look like?
Could the collapse of Orr be prevented?
How were the orrian relations with ascalon and kryta etc.?
Orr was an ancient empire which once ruled over a portion of Tyria on a peninsula to the South of Ascalon and to the west of the Crystal Desert. Orr was home to the city of the gods, Arah. This city was once inhabited by the gods Balthazar, Dwayna and Melandru while they shaped Tyria.
After the Searing the Charr forces marched south to Orr and quickly overwhelmed its armies. We are told that the empire was destroyed when the king's personal advisor, Vizier Khilbron, used powerful magic to defeat the invading Charr forces, magic that caused a devastating explosion which killed the attacking Charr, but also destroyed the city of Arah, and most of the surrounding peninsula. This event is referred to as The Cataclysm.
The Cataclysm caused most of Orr to sink to the bottom of the Bay of Sirens (which - after this event - was renamed Sea of Sorrows). The parts that are above sea level are charred and barren, and haunted by the undead.
Much of this story might have been relayed by Vizier Khilbron himself, one of the few survivors of the disaster, and might not be an accurate account.
The Cataclysm refers to a devastating event that destroyed the Kingdom of Orr, greatest of the human kingdoms prior to the Charr invasion.
With the Orr Charr invasion force marching toward Arah, the Orrians were confident that the Orrian army could hold back the Charr, as the Charr has already fought one war against the Ascalonian army. The Charr quickly annihilated the Orrian army, however, and proceeded toward the gates of Arah. King Reza's (then the king of Orr) royal adviser, Vizier Khilbron, ventured into the deep catacombs beneath the city of the gods and took a forbidden scroll. Reading aloud the words, he unleashed a powerful magic and caused the Cataclysm, sinking most of the Orrian peninsula and with it the Charr. The Charr never stepped within Arah, but few regard what the Vizier did that day as the right choice. It is said that what remains above the sea of the Orrian peninsula is haunted by the Undead, those that either do not understand their fate enough to move on, or those that are too attached to their former lives to let go.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questing in the Realm of Torment reveals that a demonic agent of Abaddon, the demon Razakel in the human form of Terick, tricked Vizier Khilbron into using the destructive arcane spell as Abaddon wished Arah destroyed. Other quests also explain that the Charr invasion and the searing were all created by servants of Abaddon as justification for Vizier Khilbron to read the spell.
This gives some pretty interesting information about Abbaddon's plans...
I would appreciate it if people tried to speculate about the questions i gave and feel free to speak your mind thx!

I too have looked into the the history of Orr many times it really is guild wars version of Atlantis save that we really know it existed. Now to take a stab at a couple of the questions.
As for what Orr might have looked like I think it would have a landscape close to elona's but with tryian influence. Quite possibly close to a theme like Spain, Italy or any of the Mediterranean countries. But thats just going by geographical fact. But it may not be too far off considering Arah was within its nation. Just like the Vatican, arah was a holy place of the gods. And Orr could have been the dwelling place of its custodians.
For where they came from. Well you can read that the people of the world were united under Dorick until magic began to seep back into the world so possibly that question is were did humans come from and then basically the gods would have created them. Just the people of that particular area united together to from to Orrians.
About Orr being destroyed we know the Vizher read some special forbidden text but I've always pondered with the idea that a bloodstone might have been involved which might help explain who the lich knew the operations of a bloodstone to begin with. Quite possibly the power of the bloodstone destroyed the city, people, and charr and was used towards furthering Abaddon's planned towards resurfacing.
Now the collapse could have been prevented had relations with the other countries been good. They were always at war. Thats why the charr had the success they did, because every country was exhausted from war. So had humans stop fighting for power they would not have seen all their countries torn apart.

I always imagined that Orr looked like the capital cities of the Roman empire.

Soem random thoughts about Orr
The Vizier was once a good wise man, but the demon Razakel took human form and gained the Viziers trust and friendship. He then used this friendship to corrupt the Vizier either to the point where he began to worship Abaddon and caused the Cataclysm on purpose (under orders) or only enough to persuade him to use the scroll and allow Abaddon to fully corrupt his mind and soul.
Both the Searing and the Cataclysm were part of Abaddons plans, Abaddon no doubt hoped the Charr would destroy the human nations and then he could eliminate the charr although this plan failed he knew there was a chance it would so the Cataclysm was also planned. This gave Abaddon tainted souls to bend to his will and a army of undead at his beckon call and quite possibly weakened the godly forces against him.
Orr was the most religious of all the nations i would imagine the loss of orr would have greatly distressed the 5 gods.
Orr was once part of the Ascalon Kingdom. Kryta had already broken off from Ascalon and declared itself a free nation (possibly either by civil war or by diplomatic means of sorts/colonys breaking away/absorbed settlements restoring independence etc.) Orr followed suite and got itself declared an independent kingdom.
Despite the Fact the kingdom is far from the other 2 there were once clear pathways to it from Ascalon.
There army was the match of any army throughout Tryia and Orr was proud of that. Unfortunately there pride in there army resulting in them leaving there Kingdom defenseless when the Charr defeated the army. Presumably the impressive army was either totally overwhelmed by the Charr Horde, made some very bad tactical mistakes or where defeated by an outside force (Abaddons black death plague)

Maybe Anet can make a elite mission were you search the remaining parts of Orr and find out a little more about this nation

That'd be cool.
By the way, Sophitia, can't you tell the difference between "they're" "their" and "there"? You make it difficult to read your post.

Orr was destroyed because a super-power to the North sent forth it's armies to try to take out said Dictator who was currently on an Anti-Bad-Grammar rampage.
The Orrians came from Orr....
Orr was a lush world of sand, sand....and more sand.
The collapse of Orr could have been prevented if they had taken on the ideas of the Japanese and build earthquake resistant buildings.
The Orrians were the sworn enemies of Ascalonians and Krytans. The Ascalonians and Krytans do not like the weapons of Mass Destruction being accumulated by the cruel Binky.
Now there's speculation
Etta
Every 2nd sunday of the month, Orrians will gather together to watch the fireworks display in the dark sky above the city of the gods. Then at the right moment, midnight perhaps, they will sing and dance to their nation's anthem, "Ding Fries are done!" - Orrian tablet No. 148.
Mournblade
The Orrians are decendants of the Rly race. Their sister tribe, the Yaa's met with annihilation in a war with a terrible band of creatures, the NoWai.
I read it on a tablet in the catacombes once.

When the gods left Tyria they hide tomes, books, weapons and other infomation under Orr in like a level 9 Magic Safe also in this Safe was infomation about Abaddon and forbidden magics hopeing that no1 could use it in the future. But then human start to make settlements in Orr and were slowly digging up the magic safe.

At the beggining of GWEN it is said that a Earthquake rips through the lands of Tyria.
This to me suggested passages between Elona, Cantha and Tyria, but now i'm beggining to think Orr too...
