Lockpick inspired idea - secret compartments
hallomik
I think lockpicks are a very cool, but when they payoff, it's a bit boring. That is, your lockpick didn't break. Woo Hoo.
I mean, I'm glad and all, but it's just a little line of text only I see and a lack of change in my inventory for lockpicks. You get another go with your key, which is great, but I think this idea could be expanded to make it a bit more fun.
What I'd like to see added is a chest secret compartment. When your lockpick doesn't break, you get some (fairly low) % chance to find a hidden compartment and immediately use the unbroken lockpick again. This 2nd use of the lockpick could be automatic or not. I kind of like the idea of occasionally two items popping out of a chest versus a lockpick not breaking. It's a very similar result, but with a much greater "oooh" factor.
If you find a secret compartment, you should get points for lucky, but maybe not additional credit for one chest opening.
Anyway, I thought it could be fun.

Apart from saving an extra 1.5k, a raise in your luck title, and a chance for a great item? No.

Maybe A-net will add the double lockpick drop,or lock pick chancee weeks .

There's another way to do that. Find another chest.

"Keep it simple" comes to my mind. What's the need to make chest opening complex?
Maybe we could turn this around and give a chance to find a secret compartment if you actually break the lockpick.
At least you have a possibility of compensation even if it breaks.

Your complaining that having a % chance of lock-pick serviving isnt that great an insentive to use them.
But you want to add a secret compartment to be able to re-use the lock-pick straight away. How is that any different to the current system of being able to re-use the lock-pick on another chest?
Your not interested in secret-comparments, you just want is it be able to re-use the same chest more then once.
Am I right?
Concidering on average you get 2-3 chests in one HM mission, then you just have to be patient and wait for the next one to apear.
Is it a race to use your lock-pick?

^ Just what am i thinking about.
That way, you do not need to run off to find another chest. Save time. What if your lock didn't break when you find a secret compartments, could you find another compartments?

Jeez you guys. The whole point of the idea was to make the payoff of the bonus of using a lockpick a little more noteworthy.
I never said I was trying to get more people to use them. I never said I wanted to race to open more. Please take a little time to actually read the OP.
Let me try to explain it this way. You're running tombs with your Guild in Hard Mode. Someone spots a chest and after the team clears out the room of mobs, all players gather round to try their luck. The new guildie who everyone is helping learn the run triggers a secret compartment and two golds pop out of the chest. Everyone cheers, virtually slaps the guy on the back, and jokes about "beginner's luck." The happy guild continues their quest and the new guildie had a nice experience.
Contrast that story with the new guildie's lockpick not breaking. He gets a little text message saying his lockpick didn't break.
The monetary impact is nearly the same. He saved 1,200-1,500 gold on the purchase of a lockpick, but the experience is totally different.
That's all the idea was about. It's called having fun. Not everything is about titles and acquiring gold. You guys should try playing the game for fun now and again.

Very nice D&D type feel to this suggestion. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Base % of retaining the key for 600g chets...30% I get treasure hunter to 7... +21%. I raise Lucky to 6... +12%....
30+21+12... 63%.
Then I bring 20 lockpicks, find one chets and yay! I fill my inventory with stuff in no time, losing less than 50% of the lockpicks with one single chest.
No... no... they added keys to chests to slow down chest running. This would make exactly the opposite.
Even if you can use a chest only twice that makes not much sense. Lockpicks are not X-Ray devices. If you are lucky enough to open the chest without breaking the lockpick, that's all, you save the lockpick and go find another chest.
