Moving Gold from GW1 to GW2
Steppenwolf
Hello
1st time poster long time player. I was reading in that recent issue of PC Gamer about the ability to move titles, weapons, and I think even pets from GW1 to GW2. But I haven't seen anything about moving Gold from GW1 to GW2. Has anyone heard anything or can link me to info on this matter? Will all Gold in GW1 stay in GW1? Gold IS the bottom line after all. So much so the only game re-set I XP'd was due to a marketing "glitch" that would have upset the games economy. For an issue this important I'm surprised I haven't seen anything from A-net/GW on the subject. Thanks for your help ~Peace~ Stepp

First, Welcome to the forums.
Pretty sure since Gold IS the bottom line...it will NOT be moving over. It would simply give people too big of an advantage when starting in the new game. And I believe they've addressed it at some point...can't remember where though.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't say you can transfer titles or weapons, but that you will get a title/weapon if you had GWEN.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

It has been said that gold will not be transferred. Gaile has stated that and one of the other Devs has stated it in an interview.
Only thing that has been said for sure about the transfer of weapons. You can use the weapon you stored at the Hall of Monuments and able to use that weapon in GW2 to give you a slight edge at the beginning areas of GW2.
Titles, pets, mini pets, ect stored in the HoM are suppose to unlock titles, pets, mini pets, ect in GW2 that you can not otherwise get in GW2.

if gold was transferable eBay gold sellers among others would get record sales.
Thank goodness this won't be the case...

I suspect that there will be an active market for GW1 gold once the HoM rewards become clear. There will be those trading GW2 gold/items for GW1 gold so that they can max GW1 titles.
The mechanics of this, of course, will be very *very* risky.

No available transfers of gold or anything else have been confirmed to date. What has been stated is that through the Hall of Monuments you get to build in GW:EN, you can showcase a GW character's special items and titles. The titles will grant certain benefits in GW2. I believe the weapons, etc. will be for show only, but as the game is several years away, who knows what will happen.
When GW:EN comes out, we will learn what can go into a monument and then we get to wait for GW2 to find out what use it has.
BUT, there will definitely be no transfer of gold. That question has been answered several times by ANet with a resounding NO.

New game = New character. New characters means that you will start the game with nothing, the same as when you started GW.

There has been very little acual info on how the Hall of Monuments is going to work, but I believe they stated, quite clearly, that you canNOT directly transfer over anything. Instead, your acomplishments in Guild Wars will unlock exclusive content of some sort for Guild Wars 2, and your Guild Wars character names will be reserved for Guild Wars 2.

Gaile actually said that nothing will be transferred over, except things that you can show via the Hall of Monuments.
Yichi
My own personal opinion, so that you dont get the whiners and the people bitching because "Tom Jones" has something that they dont, NOTHING should get moved over except your character name if you so choose to keep it.
fenix
Yeah I agree Yichi, it's a whole new game, no point starting with things you already did. Name only would be good.

Something that could be done:
Convert your gold into expensive items in GW1 and then sell the items in GW2. Of course, this won't work if you're only allowed to transfer 1 or 2 items per character, or if something in GW2 makes the GW1 items worth less gold than in GW1.

Transfering gold IMO is something we dont want. It would be extremely unfair on new players and existing poor players.
We dont want to carry over the existing rift between poor and rich into the new game. Atleast not for a few months. Its also unfair because we cant have one new player starting with 1 million gold, while other new players have absolutely nothing.
Thats like punishing those players who didnt own GW1, or those players who didnt spend hours farming in GW1.
Its a new game, and we should all start on equal terms. I appreciate that alot of people have worked hard for their gold in GW1, but its an entirely new game.

They stated that gw2 will be a clean state game, so, there should not be imbalance in early game.
Just wait for gw:en to come out and all the mysteries will be solved.

It's completely retarded to even suggest moving gold from GW1 to GW2. Even suggesting moving items is on the verge of retardedness.

I liked the fact that the game would be going on for quite some time, even if the every 6 months seemed a bit over their heads.
It's similiar to saying you get keep it all, only to say after 2 years that you can't keep anything but perhaps a free sugar cane.
I'm highly doubting that i will buy GW2 just because of the streak of broken promises by ANET.

I've been into gaming long enough to know that words from a game developer do not mean anything. Only believe concrete evidence, what you buy and see. If they say they are fixing something but indeed are breaking the game further, it's not a promise broken. It's just them breaking the game. If they say there is a slight delay in deliveries, expect that to be about six months extra, again not a promise broken. If they say there will be a new chapter every 6 months, but there's a new chapter every 9 months, who cares?
Words mean nothing in gaming.
"GW2 coming out in 2008 or whenever the hell we feel like it or maybe the company goes bankrupt before that and it stays as a concept."

Considering the games only been out 2 years, and they have already managed to release 2 expansions and their working on a 3rd one, how have they not kept their promise?
Thats 2 expansions in over a year, and a 3rd one soon to be released. They may not have been exactly 6 months apart, and the 3rd one may be taking a while, but big Deal.
I'd rather they put the time and effort into it, then rush out something like NightFall which felt incomplete. The game isnt suffering due to the 3rd one taking longer, people havent sat down in protest and stopped playing, so whats the fuss?
The sheer fact the game has lasted 2 years speaks for itself. We have hard mode to entertain us for now anyway, and Im enjoying it.
Anet isnt breaking anymore promises, by not transfering gold so its hardly a fair comparison either.

However, they still tried witht he six months between Factions and Nightfall, however it is obvious what limitations the game engine currently has and that moving to an updated game engine and starting again from scratch is a better option for both them and us as the end user

Hello again,
Wow look at all the cool replies! Thanks everyone I was curious about how people felt about the HoM. If it is just to show off things ya did in GW1 I can live with that. I agree this is a new game so lets just start with a clean slate. No weapons, titles, mini-pets, or gold from GW1 should have anything to do with GW2 and give no bonuses.
It seems to me the article in PC Gamer was to try to let us know what's happening in the Game Dev of our game, but I'm afraid it was so vague it raised more questions then it answered. Kind of like saying "We are building a NEW NFL2! Your teams won't be in it, you won't get 4 downs to complete a first down, a touchdown and extra pt is no longer 7pts, the feild won't be 100 yards long, and the game mechanics are completely different. BUT your gonna love it!" hehehe Kinda makes ya sit back, scratch your head, and ask "huh?" ~Peace~ Stepp

All I know is that for the first week of GW2, I absolutely do not want to see spammed across local chat of every major town:
"WTT GW ectos for GW2 gold:"
That is an experience killer, and with GW1 Hall of monuments achievements possibly being related to gold grinds and giving advantages or status in GW2... (Gaile mentioned that owning a certain type of armor might be an achievement)... you can see from many miles away that this type of spam has to be coming.
I dont care to take my gold with me to GW2, and I see it as unbalancing for new players to start playing a game where weapons cost 100k+ectos prices that will literally take years to farm.
But anet ought to devise some sort of solution to this issue. Its pretty important for GW2 to get this right.
