Death Leveled for Dire... but got Elder?!
Chianna
Yesterday I set my level 16 Ranger up to get herself a new pet I got her the lowest level armour I could & added 3 superior runes to it & armed my 2 monks(set to Avoid) with Resurrect, Healing Signet & a disabled Resurrection Signet... just like the guide says.
First I headed to the Latenda Bog for a test run with a Crocodile. We cleared the areas of threats & started the process. A little over 15 minutes later I had a nice fat little level 15 crocodile so I re-enabled the Resurrection Signet, threw on my armour & charmed it... only to get a level 15 Crocodile. No Evolution to be seen so I figure it must be delayed till the little guy gets to his next level... but nooooo... level 16 Crocodile is Not what I was expecting to get here so to the Tamer he went
Now by this time I've decided I missed my Stalker from Pre Searing so I head over to Old Ascalon to cap myself a pretty little kitty All set up again & just over 15 minutes later there sits a lovely level 15 Melandru's Stalker so I charm her... only to find a Level 15 Elder Stalker!?! No damage was taken by her & I cannot for the life of me figure out how this happened
I will be taking her to the Tamer today since I levelled myself to 18 last night in hopes that it was due to my lower level... & besides, a Dire Snow Wolf seems like a lovely companion to me
I wonder if anyone has had a similar occurrence or knows why/how this happened so I can avoid it with my new Pet. Thanks in advance for any information

[Edit] It happened Again! I must be destined to have an Elder Pet :'(
Just getting started...
... alllmost there....

I've never death leveled a pet so I can't help you there. To level a pet to dire thats already charmed, put [skill]Call of Haste[/skill][skill]Call of Protection[/skill][skill]Predatory Bond[/skill][skill]Symbiotic Bond[/skill][skill]Enraged Lunge[/skill].
Use the first 4 skills, then use Enraged Lunge to cause massive damage. I level my pets to dire outside Yohlon Haven using the bounty outside to help speed up the process. You can bring a monk hero till its easier for the pet to resist damage but the insects dont pose much of a threat outside the poisoning which you should bring Troll Unguent to counter.

I think it just happens sometimes. I've used the same method (listed Here, btw) on 4 pets, and so far two have been Elder and two Dire...
Also, Elder's not a bad evolution to have, either...

This might be coming too late, but oh well. Apparently getting a dire pet is not guaranteed--sometimes you'll get an elder. However, I think it's entirely possible that you got a dire crocodile on your initial practice run. I just now death-leveled a lvl 15 dire crocodile with only Dunkoro--however, the word "dire" did not appear in its name upon capture. Rather, the name of my old pet appeared: "Pet - Ralph Nader." Once I typed in my chat: "/namepet" , the name: "Pet - Dire Crocodile" appeared. This name reset feature is mentioned by Valerius in the miscellaneous section of his thread: "Ultimate Pet Guide".
Hope this clears up any confusion.

I leveled up my dire crocodile outside of Kryta on mergolies. Just search for thread - its really takes 3 hours or so - quick and easy

Well about 8 months ago (before I took a break from the game) I levelled my Phoenix up to level 19, aggressive, by me taking all damage while he killed minotaurs, but recently I got him to 20 in normal combat and... he's still aggressive despite name resets =(

I must say it has been quite some time since I've checked here or played GW.
With the inicial test run of the Crocodile I had done a name reset & he was still just a Crocodile, I then leveled him up one, but no change in evolution, so to speak.
After the Wolves I had given up on getting a Dire pet & decided I may be better off with a Hearty one anyways so I picked up a little feathered friend & he is, well, not so little anymore

Now minimize your player list so that just the word Dire is showing. Feel better already don't you? And look at all the time and trouble you saved.
