Will you guys ever be content?
Isn't the chance to get 500 lucky points better than the usual 'no points'? This is so you can work on the title a little in between events.
But of course nothing ever satisfies you.
Would it be better having no weekend event at all?
I think most people's motto is "Anet should not do anything unless it is AWESOME for me", notice that 'good', 'fair' or even 'excellent' do not count.

The wording says to give your title a boost. I don't think its intended for people to go out and level their title 2, 3, or however many times. It's just to give you a few more points until they have another boardwalk weekend or whatever. People are using lockpicks anyway, I think this is just incentive to buy a few more. You guys make it sound like the end of the world or something. So I must ask, would you like some cheese with that whine?

Well...it's a bit like getting a real shiny new bike for your 12th birthday (Or maybe a shiny new Xbox, who knows with kids these days). And then on birthday number 13 you get a shiny new.....birthday card. And look when you open the card Oprah Winfrey sings Happy Birthday.

So, would I rather get nothing then have Oprah sing me happy birthday?

I vote nothing.

Or just give us something nice. At least increase the amount of Lucky/Unlucky points we get.. For example: If you open a chest and your lockpick breaks..fair enough, you get 50 unlucky points. And if you get a purple drop you get 1000 points extra. And if you retain your lockpick and it's gold, then shame on you. You're way too lucky already and should get a Oprah Birthday Card

Well since this entire event is a big money sink, nobody actually gains something but still are 'convinced' to buy keys, it's better to let people keep their cash for 9-rings.

There isn't a good side to this event if you compare to rings and other games of chance, and I think it was just meant to be a huge gold-sink. If there was double drop rate or chance on golds, it would be different, but no...

If the manhours spent on these weekend events were instead spent on:{

1) Increasing the number of characters a player can use with the Party Search feature and/or making it global.
or
2) Making Hard Mode more about mobs with clever skillbars, good party composition and skill synergy, and less about DoA silly speed boosts.
or
3) Adding/Changing drops so that the vast majority weren't purely merchant fodder but were instead actually worth trading with other players, thereby reducing players dependance on newly created gold from vendors.
or
4) Added to the development work on those Mesmer/Ranger/Soul Reaping buffs/fixes.

}
then yes, yes i think it would be better to not have these weekend events.

I don't really have any beef with Anet doing these events; they're a sometimes fun diversion which may or may not appeal. I kinda wish they'd extend events to a bit longer; a weekend is barely enough time to get the most (or even a little) out of them. I also kinda wish they weren't so often a 'omg let's find something we can apply a x2 modifier to'-fest.

Also, i think that the time and effort spent on these events wouldn't really translate to aiding the other projects Anet has going on/ needs to start that much.

Nevertheless, it is odd to see 'OMG EXTRA MINIPET WEEKEND X500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11' when there are really more pressing issues that don't appear to be getting the same attention.

I dislike this one because it draws attention to how Anet has shifted away from their old paradigm of skill over time spent. The game is now about skill over time spent... but we'll give you a 40% damage bonus and 8 damage reduction for the endgame nightfall content if you farm a bunch of lightbringer points, your lockpicks are more likely to break if you haven't spent thousands AFK gambling, you'll break less salvaging the more items you've been through, and probably more to come with GWEN.

The level 20 cap is still attainable as ever, but they've added a fair amount of functionality beyond this. Having a level 20 character is no longer a max character, having a bunch of titles is. And you can say most of these are optional. A good number still are, but a 40% damage bonus and 8 damage reduction is certianly a clear advantage that could cause a lower lightbringer to get kicked out of groups.

Events with bonuses like this go to highlight the introduction of grind into the game, and I'm not a fan.

I'll get more use out of this one then a lot of the others since I'll probably be doing some stuff in hard mode anyway, but it won't really change what I would've done in game one way or the other.

I think I was lucky last night, opened three chests and the lockpicks didn't break! Althought those three chests gave me purple drops!

Maybe I'm missing something in your post, but, "no points"?

You get 250 lucky points if you keep your lockpick and 50 unlucky points if it breaks right now. This weekend will double that number.

Heh. This I have little arguement with.

I think it's a nice, small weekend event. Now that my treasure hunter is at 3 and my lucky is at 2, it just about makes sense for me to use lockpicks on 600gp key chests since I'm also trying to up my lucky title. Especially since I'm buying my picks for 1250 or 1300gp each. This weekend makes it even more beneficial. Not a lot, but more.

Probably better for people who only found out about the lucky titles recently and didn't want to spend money on the nine rings stuff. You can get from 0 to the first level by keeping your lockpick on about 100 chests this weekend.

Nice little bonus. Thanks ANet.

100 retained chests, how many keys will be needed?

Maybe 500++ in HM or 300++ in NM for these new players.

Either way, this event benefits more to the rich than to the poor. And of course, to those who love chest running.

I thought I posted an idea somewhere in the suggestion forum for a special rules arena. 4 vs 4 RA and TA play with altered rules that change every week. This would be a great thing to add to the rotation.
