Why not give us points for being lucky or unlucky when salvaging rare items and armours?
"Nooo, i broke my bow! Ah well, more points for the pot!"
A damned fine idea i'm sure you all agree.
Salvaging and lucky/unlucky titles.

I'm sure lots of farmers about to arrive and say that the paying 100's of platinum for weekends or lockpicks is enough but we normal players that don't have as much time need some help too

the lockpick addition was because of the cost of the lockpick and the fact that the lucky title affected the chances of you breaking it.
Lucky and Unlucky titles have nothing to do with salvaging, the only title affectign that is Wisdom, and I don't see them adding in the element of luck to it, it wuld be a really good way to annoy a lot of players that were annoyed because of it being included in the lockpicks use.

Wisdom title is from identifying rare items.
"Lucky and Unlucky titles have nothing to do with salvaging" - the suggestion was to make it so.
Lockpicks? What does that have to do with the suggestion?
Think more three-dimensionally please.
What do you do with your non-max identified gold items that you get from wasting money on lockpicks? I'm betting pretty much that alot gets thrown to the merchant.
With the luck titles also being affected by salvaging rares, there is then a market for the low-level identified items and the high-level identified items that people find hard to sell.
With unidentified rares, the buyer isn't just buying for the wisdom title. He can use it to increase his lucky/unlucky titles too, if he wishes.
It's a win-win situation. The buyer increases three titles (wisdom, lucky, unlucky) and the seller gets more money for his rares... to spend on more lockpicks.
Another good thing is that the gold that changes hands from buyer to seller contains gold that was already in the economy and isn't gold that came from selling useless or unwanted rares to the merchant.

I think it'd be a rather nice feature. It'd certainly lessen the blow taken from breaking a weapon you salvage.

It makes sense, it's a chance-based activity where you can have either a success or failure.
The lucky/unlucky points gain should be relatively low as the cost of salvaging is very low and you could do it with every crap blue item you farm, and even more, do it repeatively - if you succeed, put the mod back on the item and try again. Definately not more than 5 lucky points on success and nor more than 1 unlucky on failure.

I don't believe this is a good idea. The Wisdom title track, albeit an expensive one, should remain separate from (un)lucky. As Wisdom increases, the chance of keeping an item increases earning you fewer and fewer lucky points.
With this feature, you'll be earning 2 titles with one very common action. The benefit of having both of these titles is huge (more salvaged lockpicks and better chances of keeping great items). As you earn both titles, the benefit increases exponentially. Even with a minute return of (un)lucky points for items salvaged (un)successfully, it is still unbalanced.
The benefit of having the lucky title and the wisdom title (as well as the treasure hunter title) maxed are really good. With all titles maxed you will have a 53-98% chance to keep your lockpick, depending on the chest, and you will be able to successfully salvage and retain your items 92% of the time.
If you want to work toward increasing both Wisdom and Lucky, work toward achieving Treasure Hunter, as this has synergy with both of those titles. The fact that Treasure Hunter benefits both item salvaging and lockpick retaining is already a great benefit. I think these titles are pretty well balanced at the moment, aside from the really high numbers (# chest opened/# items Id'd/etc) required to attain them.

You earn two titles when you use a lock pick ^^
So why not do it so maybe some that arn't as great as you can max some titles before GW2

As long as the points are not as much as when you use a lockpick, it would be fine.
Salvaging may cost 3, 4 o 5 gold coins depending on the kit... nothing to compare with a 1500g lockpick.
As long as they make that give not much points... like... 5 or so, thre won't be too much problem....
...but that there are MUCH more salvaging than chest opening in the game...

What is this? You insult me because I don't agree with you?
The only example of luck being used with regard to any activity is when you open a chest with a lockpick. Because of complaints that the title was needed to improve chances of not breaking the item, Anet kindly put in the addition of gaining lucky and unlucky points when youdo use one.
You suggested that when you salavage an item you should get points in lucky/unlucky
these are the exact same mechanics. How you are unable to understand that I don't know
The direct implication of introuducing gaining luck or becoming unlucky when salvaging means that as with using lockpicks they should introduce the same usage of the luck title with the chance of not destroying the item salvaged.
It would appear that you haven't noticed that the chance of not destroying the item you salvage is affected by your level in the wisdom title
Antoher imprtant factor here is that using a lockpick will cost you 1500 gold, to get 250 lucky points or 25 unlucky.
If you scaled this down to cost for expert salvaging, salvaging one time costs 20 gold, so the equivalent in lucky points would be 5 per successful salvage, but for a failure it would be 1/3
If they did introduce this it would have to be scaled to something like this, otherwise it would be an unfair system

While you said "rare" items in the OP, I assume you mean gold items, but you weren't really specific or clear on that point. On the other hand there is no "gold armor" unless you mean monster armor drops.
The problem with this is it can be open to all sorts of abuse unless it was restiricted to only count certain high end items. Otherwise, somebody could just farm juvinille termites in normal mode over and over and salvage of inscriptions from 12g weapons for title points, then reapply them, then RESALVAGE them over and over again... Too many ways this can be abused if it wasn't restricted.
Now if you restiricted it to certain "high end" items, how would the game determine what counted? Does it have to be purple? Gold? Max damage? A "rare" skin? Does a non-max 18-35 damage Gold Zodiac Hammer count as rare or not? Does a 18-35 damage gold Break Hammer 19% while hexed not count while a 19-35 purple 14^50 one count? Would a 11-27 damage gold istan island hammer count? Where is the line? It is too difficult for a.net to specify.
