With GW:EN, let us start in hard mode
SpeedyKQ
So after playing hard mode almost exclusively lately, I played normal mode for a while last night, and holy cow, is it easy. As in, "why do I even have a brain" easy. And the drops are terrible too.
I think I'll enjoy GW:EN a lot more if I can choose to play in hard mode right from the start. The first time through a campaign is always the most fun, and I try to savor it. It'd be nice to also have a good challenge while I'm enjoying the scenery and the storyline for the first time.
Either that, or, prior to the release of GW:EN, return normal mode to its previous difficulty level.
All I know is, I don't want it to be a total cakewalk on the first pass.

Hard mode is a privilege/reward you earn by playing through the campaign at least once.
Additionally, if I read all the information surrounding GW:EN correctly, I think you wil find it to be a real challenge even in Normal Mode the first time around
HOWEVER
Since GW:EN is four story arcs (with the first three being prerequisite to play the last one) I think it would be fair to open up Hard Mode per storyline once you complete one.

it may be high lvl content but it still going to have a chapter-like storyline that u should complete 1st. I can see the threads already - "I completed EotN in hard mode without ever playing in easy mode how leet am i!?"

I don't want to play the entire game by having to set-up spirits > flag heroes > carefully lure > 4/10 times just get owned. ALL the way through the game.

This is a bit premature, considering that GWEN is being designed for experienced players.
Unlocking HM only after completing the expansion actually gives you time to know it better, before going into hardcore, and has everyone on the same starting level.
And if normal mode is going to be that easy for certain players, it wouldn't take that long to go through it. At least the normal mode specific titles would be a breeze...

Just try to go through it the first time with the minimum party, ie. yourself.

GW:EN is not a campaign. Is an expansion.
Characters will start it at level 20. They can face that. They are not kids anymore.
If someone thinks that can make it in hard mode, they should let them.

There is a BIG difference between having level 20 chars - and knowing how to play them.
Also, I do wonder what makes a characer eligible for GW:EN - reaching level 20, or, having finished at least one of the existing campaigns.
If the former, then my doubts stand. If the latter, I'll gladly eat my words.

Expect the kid gloves to go off really quickly - even in Normal! - and the headscratching for "how the hell am I going to get through THIS" to begin really fast.
Only after the first generation of players have gotten through the game once or twice will the "hey, I think I know how to do it in Hard Mode" start to circulate ... so ...
The Legg
oh come on do you want everything just handed to you right from the start? You goto play through the campaign first and complete it before you can do hardmode.
