Do we get to keep our usernames for GW2guru?
Bubba
....and you just registered with a name to ask that?
fenix
There's a GW2Guru? GW2 is 2 years away...
Darcy
No announcements have been made as to how GW2 will be handled by guildwarsguru - whether a new site or a new set of sections on the current site.
If a new website is created, I would believe the only way to guarantee retaining your forum name would be to put in the effort now to become part of the guru staff.

I'd assume that there'd be a GW2Guru, as long as the current Admin PLAY GW2. If not, maybe some others will run GW2Guru or something

This is really only an issue for people who insist on using "Sephiroth" as a username. But that isn't really an issue, since said people will usually find that name taken and get *ahem* creative by using Sepirothe, xSephiroth, xXSephirothXx, XxXSephirothXxX, S3phiroth, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
People with unique usernames shouldn't be worried, and people who have uncreative and/or "borrowed-from-famous-fandom" usernames should see it as an opportunity to actually identify themselves instead using bland and overused screen names.

lol yeah, or Drizzt Do'Urden or whatever it is. And Legolas, Aragorn etc. Apparently the more X's you have, the cooler it is. As long as no one steals my name, I'm happy, because if they do, they'll have it suddenly changed to fenix1 or something.
take_me
I'd rather know if we have a chance to keep our characternames in GW2.
fenix
We do take_me, Anet said that they are reserved for you
take_me
Nice... That's good news^^
Thanks
Thanks
fenix
Not a problem I was glad when I heard, I'd hate people stealing my names...because they're so wanted and all....
Bryant Again
Well...I might just change mine to Bryant on GW2Guru. I like the hidden Tom Goes to the Mayor joke in this one, though, so we'll see.
And I don't need to have my name for GW2 saved - no one will pick it, I'm positive.

Oh yeah, Drizzt! How could I forget the SECOND most overused screen name ever. I've never even read Salvatore's books, but I want to kill that character because of his fanbois.
As for character name reservations in GW2; is this really honest and for true?! Where did they announce that? I want a source. Not that I have anything to worry about, since all my character names are original, but I'm a paranoid little man with paranoid little habits, and I want the peace of mind in knowing that mah namez wun't get stoled.

Yeah, 100% true. Gaile said it recently, so have a look at the GW:EN and GW2 PC Gamer thread (I'm almost positive it's in there)
Mr. G
the in game name reservation is a HoM thing...do i have to post it all again....?
Star Gazer
.................yes

The legends forged within Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and the Eye of the North will not be forgotten in the future world of Guild Wars 2.
Your deeds from the original Guild Wars campaigns will be commemorated in the Eye of the North expansion in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments will reflect the achievements you earn in Eye of the North as well as those earned in Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. You will even be able to show off your hall to friends. Then, when Guild Wars 2 arrives, each of these monuments will correspond to special features your Guild Wars 2 characters can "inherit" from your own legendary past, giving you access to exclusive titles, companions , weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them.
*This feature will not allow characters to be transferred between Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2. However, it will allow character names to be reserved and a character linked to a Guild Wars character will inherit some of the original character's accomplishments.
*It will not support transfer of armor, characters, or gold. However, acquiring some armors in GW1 may confer benefits in GW2 via the Hall of Monuments.
-----------
all your transfer questions answered

well the OP was asking about guru for GW2 not GW2. if the staff does make a new forum, we'll probably have to register on that new one. though then again they might just make a new section to this one.

I kind of take offense at that statement. My imagination is not all it's cracked up to be, so I picked name of my favorite characters from tv and books. I will start working on names now, before GW2 comes out, so I don't have to try and think of some while in the creation process.

Unlike the wikis, which, IIRC, intend to remain Guild Wars 1-related and open up a sister wiki for the sequel, I have a feeling the "Guild Wars" in "Guild Wars Guru" will refer to the series, instead of "Guild Wars" as in the original.
But if we do open a new wiki, what's the chance of someone stealing your username? (Save for the people who think your name is awesome and, for the sake of being a shmog, decide to do so, though many of them aren't even intelligent enough to find out about a new Guru site if it opens)
