Hey. ive been reading (and experiencing) issues of the declining quality of high-tier PvP in Guild Wars, and i myself have always found GW PvE to be subpar. I have some pretty decent ideas (i think) that probably couldnt be implemented but i think its nice to throw out ideas to make your perfect game.
3 Areas of play each with different requirements, objectives, and boundaries.
Area 1: General PvE
Sounds like its title, its PvE... you kill monsters and AI, make some money, upgrade. Whats my biggest gripe about GW PvE? Theres a lack of things to do. Not in the sense that you cant go do something, but its all the same and its all essentially pointless. Youre farming for endless hours to buy armor that rarely looks better than the "affordable" version (maybe its just me but i can hardly ever distinguish a person w/ FoW from a person w/ 1.5k). I propose this: No level cap and increasingly BETTER (not just better looking) armor and weapons. Bet this had been said before but i think that you should have goals in PvE that can never really be accomplished so when youre running through sorrows furnace you can say: "only 10k more xp until my atk strength levels!". Also tradeskills are cool. No limit on the tradeskills either. If they have 10 different trades you should be able to learn all 10 if you put the time into it. Just something to break up the monotomy of monster bashing. Now obviously you wouldnt get more attribute points but if youre a warrior your auto attacks could increase w/ levels, spellcasters could have their spells amplified/ other effects with high levels.
Now going along with this would be quests. These quests would get harder according to your level and would have requirements. Something along the lines of level 45 cooking, 50 magic, 50 strength, and *insert previous quest* must be completed. There could be ministories in the quests and they could give grand rewards for incentives (unlike the ones now).
Area 2: Competetive PvP
This is what we have now and call the arenas (and GvG). Different arenas where balanced PvP can take place. Everything that we have now is implemented (level cap, nearly unlimited access to all skills, PvP char customization, etc). Most games that have great PvE lack here. There needs to be a balanced PvP where time investment isnt the determining factor. Perhaps spice it up by adding rewards? Gold instead of faction perhaps?
Area 3: "Casual PvP"
I like the idea of unorganized, free-for-all pvp perhaps in the middle of the 3 PvE worlds. Something like the Fight Pits where you bring your PvE chars (no level caps, uber-1337 armor/weps, etc) and just battle. There could be objectives, but no defined teams or anything. Perhaps segregate zones of battle depending on level. Like lvl 20 (minimum lvl to enter) to lvl 30's fight in one instanced zone (as many people can be in there as they want, along the lines of 20 vs 20 ideally, but nothing definate), 30-40's in another, etc... This kind of pvp is casual. you click enter and you start fighting. You can have team strategies (however primitive), or it could be a 1v1 fest. Id like to incorporate a risk/reward system into this too. Maybe something like armor loss/gain, corpse looting, etc. I think PvP is more fun when you have everything (or a lot anyways) to lose and just as much to gain.
Well this would be my ideal picture of GW. maybe you guys like it too and it could get incorporated into GW2... or even add your own ideas.
