Hello everyone, I have a problem which I would like your opinion on.

I have a 1.8Ghz P4 Sony VAIO, upgraded to 1 gig of RAM, and a nVidia Geforce MX4000.
The problem is that the card only supports DX8. In its initial config the card could only run at minimum settings, but after overclocking it i can run GW at max settings 1280x1024 with -noshaders -dx8 etc getting ~20 fps. (I've overclocked the gpu and memory a good 100mhz each even though it's passive cooled )

I have been thinking about upgrading. I can get a nVidia 7600GS (AGP) 256MB for pretty cheap. My question to you all is what kind of performance can I expect on GW? Obviously it's probably gonna start to be CPU bottlenecked, but how badly? I would finally be getting shader effects i assume ... would AA etc. be possible?

Should be good, i used to run GW with ALL settings maxed, on Sempron 1.81 with an ATI radeon 9200 128mb (agp).

This is a Sony VAIO PCV-RX670 desktop with an AGP slot (P4B266LM mobo). I can change pretty much anything in it. Maybe you are thinking of a laptop?

The answer is yes, you will get much better performance. I can run the GW maxed on a Toshiba laptop with a Pentium M 1.6GHz, 1.5GB ram and a Geforce 6600 Go with all the bells and whistles turned on and stay in the 40-70 fps range so upgrading to a 7600GS should allow you to get similar performance.
