Any help is appretiated.

See this link for some ideas:

Specifically, this method (quote from wiki) was the ONLY way I was able to do the mission OR bonus in hard mode:

"Alternate Route: The easiest way to do the mission and bonus is to necrotic traversal or consume corpse over the gate on the corpse of a warthog. Do this before you open the vine gate, and only the Demagogue will spawn. Either bring a build capable of soloing him, or have everyone kill themselves using vamp weapons or saccing skills, and rebirth them through. This allows you to take your time in killing the Demagogue without worry of the mantle attuning the portals."

Trouble is, a warthog spawns on the far side of the gate about once in 10-12 missions, so I had to do the ~30 minute run to get there OVER and OVER and OVER again. However, once you see little Mr. Piggy over there, it's gg, even in hard mode.

I did the bonus and the mission on separate runs. For the bonus I used the method where u quickly place first 2 crystal near and right, then flag the hench by the pedestal and run round to the right - there should be no mantle in the way and u get get to the demagogue unscathed - he is easy to take out and u should do it before the mantle cap all 3 pedestals.

Maybe I had a lucky spawn (you do seem to have a strangely different experience in the missions on hard mode depending on the spawn) but it really wasn't hard and I dont see the point in trying over and over for the warthog.
